That model is very "Frazetta." I love it. Very clever approach to painting orc flesh. Thanks for the video!
Yeah that nails it she looks straight out of a Conan cover it’s lovely design
Im on your wave length ... saw the thumbnail Frank pop in my head.
My thoughts exactly
You guys'd probably love 'Brushfire- Painting with Fire', it's about Frank.
Now she will be officially called Frazzete
definitely came here for the painting. theres absolutely no other reason i would click this thumbnail.
T H I C C O R C
The definition of "You don't ****** her, she ****s you."
Thorcc
😈Death by SNOO SNOO.
😁Challenge accepted
I'd date her.
Smash
Came here for the thickness, stayed for the commentary. 10/10.
This has to be the most underrated mini-painting channel on CZcams.
I do try to talk it up, but most people don't want to get into paint so much as get tabletop ready 😕
Agreed
I had my paint slightly too thick still so I was getting jarring transitions in the colours. Your excellent explanation and demonstration has helped me to finally nail a nice smooth skin tone, you rock man!
In my experience, paint cant be too thin; that just means you might need another layer. But it can always be too thick. Whats that addage, measure twice and cut once because you can always take more off but you cant add it back? Same kinda thing, but in reverse.
it wasn't the paint that was too thick.....
@@daboi5779 I was about to make that same joke lol
That transition from european skin tone to a straight up orc was mindblowing. I'd never even thought about something like that.
Great explanations and the final project - human to orc - amazing eye-opener to the technique's abilities! Thank you.
Badass. I love seeing all the different techniques out there. Comment for the algo and I hope this can get passed on to many, many more people. Super helpful information.
I loved this idea of glazes for variations and skin tone. I wish I had seen it when trying to create believable blue skin. Excellent video. I hope you get to 100K soon! You deserve it
THIS is what I needed to really get it. I was not sure about the difference and the use case for one over the other. Thank you for an awesome explanatory video!
Best explanation I've seen on the topics of layering and glazing. Really apprecaited. Thanks Doc!
Thanks, Doc! 👍 This was an amazing example of what one can accomplish with the application of these techniques. Well done.
Been painting miniatures for a long time. This is beautiful work. Glazing and layering are the ways to go.
Great job. I honestly didn't believe you'd manage to turn that human skin into green in a convincing way, but you did it and it looks very nice.
Thank you for a clear description between glazing and layering . Perfect .
This channel is worth learning from, I cant find ones who explain an give out a painting color scheme from Vallejo paints except this one. I like this guy a lot
Your painting work is beyond amazing and you explain it amazingly thanks for the how to .
I love this strategy. Achieving realistic looking jewel and earth undertones to even fantasy skin colors, by literarily painting them underneath.
Great video, Doc!! Thanks. Thrilled to see you exceed 100K subs. Been with you for years and your style and knowledge you share are incredible. Thank you.
Your explanation of glazing was very thorough. Thank you!
I am a beginner digital artist and this gave me some ideas for painting. I love seeing the variation in skin tone it really gives her life compared to just a flat green. Awesome work!
This episode is so amazing,I want to know the difference between layering and glazing for a long time👍👍👍
This is so cool and you're very informative. Lots of pros get disconnected with the pov of someone who's a novice but you addressed all my wonders
Wow! She is gorgeous and that was a fantastic explanation. Thanks, Doc!
thank you for the clear description of glazing vs layering. I read several articles and couldnt understand
Well done once more! I always struggle with believable skin so this is also a great exercise for that. Thanks!
BEST CZcams VIDEO ON SKIN. PERIOD.
This video finally helped me understand the glazing vs layering concept thank you so much!
Got pointed here for seeing an example of red glazing to highlight bloodflow in subtle areas. Great help. Thank you!
This was a very practical and effective way of demonstrating the two techniques, subbed!
best sentence in the hole vid "if you put on 1 coat and you see pretty much no result, EXCELLENT you had your glazes thinned properly" made my day good vid btw
Not having touched a brush in years, I was a bit worried about painting up my new Blood Bowl team. And then, in the weirdest/best case of timing ever (or Google reading my mind) this video popped into my feed the day before I had planned to start painting. Even with me being rusty after not painting for several years, I think I might have improved my skills by watching this video.
Thinning the paints was something I never got around to "back in the day" but watching your layering technique made me go thin, thin, thin, and boy did it help. So much easier to apply the paint, and for once I've gotten half decent skin tones.
In other words: thanks for a great video.
Great explanation! I find it fascinating that those two techniques are often described (and demonstrated) by many top painters quite differently.
Any examples I could check out? This was great. But, the more the merrier! Just about to start in the hobby (supplies in the post 🚚).
Great demonstration. Cleared things up for me.
Can't wait to try some of these techniques
Splendid! Thank you for sharing Doc!
Great tutorial sir. THanks. Getting back to painting minis and trying to refresh all that I never really knew 🙂
Such a great video! Especially for intermediate painters like myself who want to explore a step up from adding a wash over a base coat and then adding some highlights.
Very useful tutorial. Great work mate ❤
As usual, excellent defining of glazing and layering! :)
Amazing explanations !
You helped me a lot here on understanding how to use these techniques ! Thanks a lot !
My man really decided to paint the most distracting miniature possible for this video.
Good Morning. This is the second video I have seen about painting flesh tones. First video was in Spanish with captions. I had to keep stopping and reading to understand. Your video I could follow along as you painted. I learned a lot from you. Will be putting into practice.
Cheers!
Thanks for uploading this been wanting to learn how to sculpt and make resin figures or statues. Hopefully I'll get to use this knowledge in the future.
Hello Dr, I entered my first competion and got 3RD!!!! Thanks to your videos!...I was the Tree-Ent at Brookhurst Hobbies in Anaheim last weekend.
I have been looking forward to this video since you mentioned it on Twitch.
Absolutely loved this tutorial. Thanks so much! ☮️
Nice work, Doc. Thanks for the video.
The attention to the female orc is breathtakingly beautiful!
Detail as you know,is everything ✨️
So useful and pleasure to watch. Thanks!
This is a great video, the color techniques are good and yes glazes, inks, washes, and such all have different end results. Love your channel.
I'm glad you chose this mini to do this on, I was thinking of getting one of them myself xD Awesome work!
Great explanation and a nice example to try out. 👏
I'm a graphic designer who get color shade from 2 colors by splitting them into 4-5 shades just like what you did in the video. I never thought that this process can also apply in painting figure. Thanks for the idea!
Useful, practical tutorial. Thank you
Great content! I've just started paining miniatures as a hobby and this video definitely provided me with a far better workflow than I followed on my 1st few attempts.
I have this exact same figure, so I'm going to try your method, with different colours. Thanks for creating quality content. liked and subscribed. 😁
My package of base painting stuff arrived today and I'm going to try to paint my Aasimar your way! :) Thanks for the video!
WOW! Awesome video, awesome painting, awesome explanations. Thank you!
Firat video ive seen from you, and immediately subb'd.
So hood mate, please keep the knowledge flowing like properly thinned paint of the brush!
I finally get it! Thank you for the excellent explanation!

Thanks a lot 4 explaining :) It looks awesome and I am gonna try it out this way!
Very helpful, thanks for the video
Awesome video, thanks nice and simply explained.
Well deserved buddy, congratulations!
Thanks a lot for sharing this, doc.
New to minis you make something that looks intimidating look easy
Clicked for the thumbnail 😏, stayed for the painting.
I've been miniature painting for about 2 months. I have zero background in painting at all, and I have never been the most artistic person when it comes to drawing and painting.
Watching your technique with the brush makes it feel impossible to get to that level lol. Everything is so smooth. One day, maybe one day, I'll get there.
Sir you are an awesome teacher.
Thanks mate - great video. Hope 100k comes soon for you! Well earnt I'd say!
Congrats on hitting 100k subs!
Thank you Doctor !
Awesome advice!
Wow,thank you I had no idea the colour layers in order to achieve flesh
Amazing paint job. Just subbed for more.

A very excellent tutorial - much easier to understand as I watch you do the individual steps. Thanks very much!
I have been wondering how I was going to paint up this model myself but had been holding off until I could do it correctly. Im excited to try this technique!
