  • Catherine and Jonas met in their first week of theatre school at George Brown in Toronto. When they were retelling their relationship story to us, Jonas said to Catherine,
“Theatre school is an interesting place. Our class of 31 was broken up into two groups. We were in opposite groups at first, so while we were spending 8-10 hours a day in the same small building together, our interactions were mainly limited to Dance classes (where you impressed me with your skill) and Music classes (where you impressed me with your skill) and time spent in the student lounge during lunch breaks. But even the group system couldn't keep us apart. So much of what I love about you now is the same things that were apparent to me then and drew me to you. Your intelligence, sense of humour, courage, beauty... within little more than a month of meeting, our romance had begun.”
They said I love you just a month after dating, and Jonas moved in with Catherine two months after that. Catherine said,
"So, yeah. It was pretty fast. But I think a big part of that was it felt so clear from very early on that we got along so well. Not just in a romantic way but as friends and collaborators... We just felt so compatible.
Neither of us was looking to start a serious relationship right at the beginning of this very intense training program, especially amongst a tight-knit group of people who would be working together for the next three years. Still, as soon as we began to fall in love, there was no question. It just felt inevitable. And the more time went by, the stronger our connection grew.”
Since then, they’ve performed together, welcomed Ollie into our life, survived a global pandemic, travelled to new places, and now planned a wedding together! They had in mind that they wanted to get engaged last summer, and both planned to propose to the other. It just so happens that Jonas beat Catherine to the punch. Jonas proposed to Catherine on a hike in Sault Ste Marie when they were visiting his family, but it took Catherine a few minutes to notice what was going on because their dog, Ollie, was getting bitten by so many bugs. Catherine had her own proposal plans based on a specific date. She surprised Jonas with a trip to New York City to see their favourite band at a wedding-themed concert. On the final day, she proposed to him in Central Park with matching jewelry to what he proposed to her.
Catherine and Jonas are independent and motivated individuals who happened to find the ideally suited partner that compliments them and brings out the best. As actors in Toronto, they know what it takes to put in the work, and they’re determined to do that with each other- they already have been for almost eight years. This wedding was a natural next step in their relationship, and they created a unique day specifically suited to their tastes and affinities. The poetry, vows and speeches saturated the day with sentimentality, while the cityscape of Toronto accentuated the moment's beauty.
Catherine and Jonas, we are so happy for you two and the life you’re building together. Congratulations!!
