Dave- like u I have original Osmo. I wanted to upgrade and it was between OA 3 and GP 11. U have had challenges! When I was looking it was the OA 3 focus issue. I went with the GP 11. Very user friendly and easy to use. Osmo lost a lot of customers with their issues! Keep up the great work! Brian

Just come across your video and we could have been watching us (John & Kay in Swansea, South Wales UK)!!! Absolutely step by step, we experienced the same problems.
We cannot use the MIMO app at all however, we can however use the LightCut app (also recommended by DJI). We both have android phones but one is a Nokia G10 and one is a Ulephone. We had to clear some memory for the app to work, something it tells you when logging on (make sure you have sufficient memory)
John has experienced the exact same problem with the wireless receiver adapter that he recently bought. It's going back tomorrow. We use the SmallRig camera case which is excellent and fits the Action 3 perfectly. Like you, we didn't like the fit of the adapter in the side and also experienced no sound.
Its an absolute minefield, we have trawled through sooooo many youtube videos, as you so rightly say, no-one else has mentioned these problems. I don't know if its an age thing? We are both in our 60's and also don't want to have to upgrade our phones etc.
I much prefer to edit videos on my laptop so I am currently researching the best beginners software program.

I've been thinking about the Osmo Action 3. I've owned a brilliant Sony Action Cam which I use for motorcycling and skiing, but it's getting old although still extremely reliable. All my friends have GO PROS and they seem to be incredibly unreliable despite the premium price. Your video is great Dave but when, oh when, os one of these manufactures going to make a camera that doesn't stuff users around from the day you receive and open them. If they get that right and a simple, glue on, flexible but strong, helmet mount they will completely dominate the motorcycle market for these products. Thanks again for all your efforts.

Some good info, particularly about Mimo support only for older phones (which is quite surprising). I'm looking at the Action 3 and probably would have hit that frustration wall as well!
I was surprised that the newer Samsung wasn't supported but maybe it will be soon.

For me the registration was a pain but it's not for everyone, I guess. Once I got beyond all of the hassle it seems like it will be my camera of choice now.
Had a quick scan to see if anyone had posted about upping the mic gain to the max and seeing if you then had sound on your OSMO Action.

Geez, and to think I almost bought that same camera, but, I went ahead and bought the GoPro 10 instead…and, the ONLY reason I did was bc the 10 has viewing capabilities front and back [like the iPhone I use] in case I wanted to use the camera like you are in this video for positioning myself in the frame. I already had the GoPro 7 and was perfectly happy with that one. So, I suppose NOW I’ll use both of them when I go back on the road. With all the camera gear, adaptors, accessories, etc I have I plan to record my butt off! 😂 Great video, Dave! ~Jim~
Yes that front facing screen is nice, I have it on my Original Osmo Action 1 and now the front screen on the Action 3 is a touch screen as well which I really don't care if it is or not for me. I still have an original GoPro and I have a GoPro Hero3 but they hardly get touched any longer. Have a great week Jim!!

I just received the DJI Action 3 and a DJI Mic system. Planning to go out and shoot tomorrow and run some tests. Its my first time owning this set up but interested to see how it works.

with that adapter, you need a TRS to TRRS patch cable (SC7)....then you'll get audio mic to work.

Great video!! Had the same problem. I have the ultra 22 that has the most recent software version. Had to use my daughter's iPhone to get to work. Success!! Not really, as unfortunately I was sent one of the Actions 3's with the blurry video. However I won't be defeated. Put it in the mail yesterday. Wish me luck!!

Thanks for the info, that’s why I never use GoPro or CJI apps , I use LumaFusion and CapCut on my phone gives you so much more creative control . I don’t use the phone to see anything live but that’s just personal choice. I don’t think this will stop me buying the model.
Oh I certainly woudl not let this little issue stop you from getting the Osmo Action 3. I'm very happy I did.

I will say that once I worked through the hogwash, I do really love the camera.
Go into the phones wifi settings and try connect it there. I had the same problem

My biggest complaint from watching, is needing the app to activate the camera. You probably can use a usb c to usb c cable to make that work.
Yes, having to activate like this is a pain and I just don't get it.
Excelente vídeo.. Saying that I had the same problem with the pairing.. I found a video that shous how it's done and it works.. Basically you set it to 2..4 gb and acept then you go back and select reset and go back again and re select 2.4 and then on the done switch of Wi-Fi and on again and it will search for all connections available and once it show selected to context to the with Wi-Fi it will ask for a password go back to the osmo action there his a vi-o option pass and just type on you phone the password and it will connect... If you have the mimo app open will will display the camera image.. It talk me some time to learn to connect but once connected never had any problems.. Saying that I am learning to find out best setting for image quality.. Wish you well

I have this adventure combo waiting in a box for Christmas present. Seen lots of issues and even security concerns. I hope for easy setup and updates via my iPad with the Mimo app. Footage on CZcams looks promising but these technical troubles worry me. Thank you for preparing for the worst! :)
Well keep in mind that even if you DO have a hiccup or two it seems to be worth it at the end.

@@mizachs oh okay. Even my Sony android 4k TV official remote app is no longer in play store. Not sure what's the reason. But to be honest once we use Google services then RIP for our privacy 😁.
These days things are getting so worse that when ever i keep talking about some location pin point accurate it gets showed up in youtube which means Google now keeps hearing even if we don't ask for it..

Hi Dave thanks for the video. It is very helpful. I am at the point of buying the osmo 3. But doubt because I read about the connection issues. Do you ore someone who's reading this, issues to connect an iPhone 14? And do you still recommend the osmo action camera 3? I mainly going to use for my bike trips.
I know what I did the update with a friend phone that it was a Apple but I don't know what version. As far as would I still recommend the Action 3,,, the answer is yes. I'm glad you found the video helpful and thank you for taking the time to say so.
I have the Samsung 22 Ultra and Bought the camera and everything was fine THEN one magical day Same thing started happening. It would recognize it but not connect. After being on the Phone with DJI TECH SUPPORT first time they said my phone was not supported. Secong time tech was much smarter and helped..........Supper aggravating all good now.

sandisk card is for audio files for a mp3 player. i have the same yellow warning message. it does'nt support 4k video files because not fast enough, so i have bought the extreme card now and waiting for it to arrrive. i also have a samsung s20 and the app works perfect. hopefully dji will upgrade firmware to include newer phones. probably the action 4 will support s22 phone
I switched to the Extreme also. Whatever combo we did it's doing a great job now.
Even if I had to go through all of this I’d still buy Action 3 over GoPro. I’m done with go(un)pros
And I would go through it again to stay away from GoPro.
I had a Huawei mate 20x. It took me only a minutes to activate and no issues at all.

small rig cage is the best cage for 3 and 4 but everywhere is sold out. i have to wait for more to arrive in the online stores, even china has sold out. very popular cage. now that everyone has sold all their gopro cameras and accessories, me included.
I still have a couple GoPro's but don't rely on them any longer. They are sort of my "This might be a bad thing to do with a camera" camera LOL!!
Dave, DJI favours the iPhone. In fact when I contacted DJI they said that their cameras work best with iPhones. Maybe you could get an iPhone, even a second hand one I feel would work well.
They shouldn't favor one brand over the other when there are so many android devices out, just bad business. I could get an iPhone I guess but now that things are working just fine I won't be doing that.

You described everything I was experiencing also. I have an S21+ and was running into the exact same problem and ended up returning 2 openbox cameras. Thinking it was the cameras I went ahead and got a brand new one in the box. So you may ask yourself why is he so dead set on Osmo? I have a GoPro 10 and have twice now had critical errors GoPro has been unable to resolve. So here I am. I have the new camera sitting in front of me charging and my wifes older Samsung tablet handy. I am going to load Mimo on the tablet and will keep you posted.
I feel your pain but I'm pretty sure once you get it all hashed out you will be happy. Did you get it linked up with your wife's tablet?
@@daveanddianethrowingcautio5707 No it wouldn't connect. I tried several different ways My son came over yesterday and we were able to get it activated with his iphone. Get this though, after it was activated on a whim I tried to link it to my phone and it worked. Its just the activation that's a pain.
There are two different kinds of adapters, a TRS and a TRRS, I think the Action 3 needs a TRRS. I use my DJI wireless mic plugged in direct to the camera while riding my motorcycle and have never had it fall out, however I understand your concern. I know for a fact the apple usb-c to 3.5 adapter works. But have not tried others.

Not true...trs 3.5mm works and has better sound quality than trrs.
Yeah, the activation thing got me too, and the app they provided refused to install altogether on a brand new Samsung Galaxy A13 running Android 13 ! Only option here was to find a friend with an iphone ! Hardware shouldn't require compulsory activation. Another huge road block awaits if you have Win10, and want to edit footage. Video editors won't mount HEVC video files, so you have to choose H.264 (compatibility mode) on the camera, which rules out D-Cine-like color profile, 10 bit color, and any framerate over 30 FPS, which seriously reduces the quality / usefulness of the camera.
Very frustrating for sure. It sounds like you are deeper into the editing than me, I have not had any issues there.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra and I also could not get the action 3 to activate on my phone. Luckily I have an old Samsung Galaxy S8+ still, so I tried on that and was able to activate it immediately. After activating the camera I was then able to connect to the Action 3 on my S21 Ultra.
I hope when I finally get to do the update my S22 will be recognized as well.
When choosing the right SD card you have to make sure it says v30 or higher. I ran into the same issue with GPHero 10.

If you're having trouble connecting set the camera to 2.4G. Fortunately, I did this after using only one of my five strikes.

I have the Samsung s22 ultra and I have no problems in connecting my new action 3??? I'm just wondering if you had your locator switched on on your phone it may sound daft but I had this problem with my first ever DJI osmo action camera. Hope this helps
I had to look to see what the locator was you were talking about. If you meant the phone locator, I turned it off and tried again but no luck.
if you use the dji cage that lets you use the camera for tiktoks n such to film sideways. that cage will allow you to do what you want

This happened to me where the DJI app I installed for my Osmo Gimbal was already on my phone, the camera wouldn't recognize the phone. Rebooting my phone fixed it. You know, like from the IT Crowd. "Have you tried turning it off and back on again?

I bet you are correct in that having the IPhone stopped you from having any issues. Thats bad on DJI, there are so many of us with androids.
I was unable to connect to the mimo app unless I turned on the camera.

You really described my experience with the Action 3 perfectly. I have a relatively new Samsung XCover Pro and I was not even able to install Mimo on the phone. I’m expecting a used Samsung S10 tomorrow, so it hopefully will allow me to unlock the phone. If not, I’m send it back and getting a GoPro 11. Plus, I will not remain silent about this stupid design and will get the word out on Amazon, etc.

I really with these action cams just had a built in wireless audio solution. Plugging in this and that and cliping here and there is just so damn clunky. The wireless chip inside a set of earbuds is like the size of Lincolns head on a penny. They could surely just integrate it into the camera itself.
Okay, so I want to make sure. It sounds like the customer service rep was incorrect in their assessment that you needed to ship the phone back to them.
If that's the case, then what's the point of "5 skips or you're out?" Does it mean you can only use the camera 5 times without registering it?
Does this camera force you to be paired to the app at all times after you're registered? Is there a way of registering this device without connecting to the app? Seems fishy to me.
It was DJI that wanted me to ship the camera back. Once the camera has been registered through the Mimo app then you don't need to run the camera through the Mino app again if you don't want to.
Changed your phone. Android device is a pain in the butt 😅 about the card, not all card is compatible. Some are slow some are fast. It should be compatible with read and write speed
I've been a Android user forever, never owned a Apple product and I'm afraid thats not in the cards for me. And the card thing, I'm happy that I got that figured out. Hey thanks for chiming in.
I forgot something on my comment here on this video, did you use the cord that came with the dji mic system that was in the box? That should work. Mount the receiver on the cold shoe, and then plug in the same cord they gave you in the box, try that, don't use someone else's cord. and by the way I had a hell of a time activating mine too. Mine was really weird, I never had to use the scanned code. It took me at least three hours to activate my camera, then after all that, I start seeing youtube videos about focus issues after doing all my research on how great this camera is. Now after having the camera for a month, all videos on CZcams are saying the same thing. I don't really see a focus issue on mine, but then again I have bad eyes, I really need glasses. Maybe they are right, and I can't really see the out of focus. That worries me a bit. I don't want to get involved in sending this thing back, i'm afraid they would say you had it past the thirty days. But youtube people are all over this out of focus thing. But what is strange is, most all complaints are from the UK. Doesn't that seem odd? I never hear anyone from the US talking about this issue. Again thanks for your kind video! Maybe China really does like USA.
Unless the mic came with a second cord that I have forgotten about yes I did use that cord along with an adaptor cord to get to the usb style port on the Action 3. Bummer you had issues to, at least you finally got yours to hook up. I personally don't see any focus issues with mine but my computer is so old IT needs glasses LOL!! I am in the middle of shooting sample video's with it, my original Osmo an my DJI Pocket to put together a video and that should be fun to see what comments I get. I don't have the gadgets others do to have them all mounted together so thats a challenge for me and I have to figure out how to put all three on the same clip in my editing software but I will put something together, how good I don't know LOL!! I had to go to a samsung store to download it as my alcatel didnt work even though it was an android 11. Absolute daft that you need to activate with a QR code (guess they are trying to make them retail theft proof). I had a gopro 3 a few years back and it was ready to go, just turn it on!!! Its quite concerning that the power cable outlet opens easily even when the protective frame case is on, can imagine you might knock it open whilst diving...
Did you download the app at the Google Play Store?
From the play Store and I think from DJI themselves as well.
I have the same microphone issues - stupid design flaws from DJI - the microphone adapter from from the action 1 gives you simple clear microphone input via TRS-jack and an usb-c charge input (that is the way I use it). Now with the action 3 DJI made it easer at first (you do not need an adapter) - a simple cable from female trs-jack to usb-c male is working - but you can not charge at the same time - WTF DJI WHY? And no all the splitter cables I tried that have power in via USB-C (even PD) do work for charging of using microphone - but noth both. My idea was to have a single usb-cable coming from the action 3 going into my stearing bag where I than do the splitting and connecting - I will cost you a lot of different cables in return for no real solution - I hope DJI can fix this in a firmware update
hmmm.... I have the Samsung Galaxy S22 .... didn't have any problem connecting right away.
I'm curious if you got a newer Osmo Action with a more updated firmware. Either way I'm happy you didn't have the issues I had.

when I received it and connected, the first thing I did was update to the newest firmware.
I am returning it due to the 9/22 mfg focus issue....later runs did not have the issue. I reordered another one ...this time the adventure combo...... for the xtra $100, you get a stick, two batteries, two magnet clips and charger...... if you buy those items separate, you are well above $200.
This is very frustrating. I've been messing with my Nimo app, yes, it has my AO1 on it, only to find out that it will not support a 2nd camera, thus will not accept my new AO3.
I read somewhere that you can download the Nimo app from DJI from a computer, so I'll try that tomorrow.
I'm already in $$$ on the Smallrig cage, filters, screen protectors, etc.
But wow, what a huge P.I.A.!
I'm exhausted. I have many standard jack mics, I do not want to invest on any more mics. I wish an updated Cynova type of jack was out there for this camera.
I use that on my AO1 along with either a power pack or car charger to keep the camera rolling without having to do battery changes. Plus have an external mic plugged into it. Dual purpose.

It really is a pain. I'm not very techy so it makes it even worse. I have a stand alone external power pack that I use as well, makes it very nice. In fact I need to check it because we start heading south on Saturday and we will have 4 long travel days.
@@daveanddianethrowingcautio5707I ended up having to uninstall the Mimo app to remove my AO1,then reinstall to activate the AO3. It's a shame that multiple cameras can not be used.
I guess the only reason that I would use the app would be for livestreams. Which I don't do anyhow.
Or updates, which at this point in time, I don't think there would be any for the AO1 anymore.

You have to go in the camera settings WiFi and switch from 5ghz to 2.4ghz. Or if that not work again Go to WiFi settings and you will see the WiFi password for the camera.After that Go to your phone find the osmo action network and put the password there you go.

Great video thanks and subscribed. Waiting for my camera but from the research I have done it seems that this is the extension needed for audio. (BOYA BY-K6 3.5mm TRS (Female) to Type-C Audio Adapter). The mic part of the Action 3 is confusing me. With the DJI mic setup do you actually need an adapter? Also, does the dji transmitter have to be plugged into the camera or will it work remotely. DJI seem very quiet regarding compatibility on the microphone side. Great video thanks.
Yes, I did end up with the Boya BY-K6 and it does in fact work. And yes, to use the DJI wireless mic with the Action 3 you will need an adaptor. For the DJI Wireless system the reciever needs to be plugged in to the camera but the transmitters do not. Once you get your camera and get it set up I'm sure you will enjoy it.
Hey my friend, just wondering how your making out with this problem.....I commented about the cage I use and the connection issue on samsung 22ultra. After going back and forth Idno how many times we came to the conclusion that they needed to make a firmware update because the osmo will not connect to my Samsung phone, but I got it to connect to my samsung Tablet.....so since our last interaction thats what I have been using. If you are not too busy and Im not a bother, how are you making out? Thanks Clinton
No bother at all. Just last night I connected my Osmo to a friend's Apple phone and did the update. After that it connected ted to my Samsung perfectly.
That's a pretty silly way of selling a camera. But I have to say mine had no issue, I installed the app and was up and running in just a few minutes. Samsung Galaxy S21

That sucks about the "activation"!! These companies will do anything to get their apps on your phone.
Well now that I have everything running as it should I'm pretty happy and the pain of getting it activated is behind me.
Rule nr 1 is never use Samsung with DJI apps! And I think Samsung is the problem, not DJI since Samsung have a lot of bloatware on their phones.
I actually had to buy a new phone when I bought my first drone, but didn't regret since I had a really old phone before.
I can recommend people having questions to go to DJI forum, since everything have been answered there.
You are most likely correct on it being a Samsung problem more than a DJI issue. I had some issues with my current drone as well and Samsung. I'm just happy everything is working properly now. Thanks for stopping in.
@@daveanddianethrowingcautio5707 And everytime you are going to update the firmware, you need to borrow your friend phone. I think there will be a new firmware out soon also.

I had the same issue, on action camera change - wireless connection / wi-fi frequency / changed to 2.4GHz
