thanks for explaining secondary and how important they are to get to 100% P&T.....went from 30% service-connected to 100% P&T on secondary conditions cause by the service connected disabilities. Veterans need to be active in all their claims and conditions. Leave nothing to chance for the VA.

Hi there. Should I or should I not file for more than one secondary claim at once? Both secondary's point to my primary rating? The example is, ulcerative colitis rated at 30% in 2013, fast forward 8 years later and now I have developed extraintestinal manifestations of IBD which are Uveitis and Colitis associated arthritis. My plan is to file a secondary for the uveitis and arthritis caused by my Colitis. I am in air traffic controller in the Washington dc area and have had to call out of work multiple times because of my blurry vision and/or pain in my thumb which is what I for talking into the radios to pilots... I would greatly appreciate your thoughts and any advice! Thanks beforehand!!

don't forget the terminology the board looks for in rating primary, secondary, and increased ratings. medical opinions stating a disablility is "more likely than not", or "as likely as not" caused by service or or a service connected disability carries a lot of weight with the board.

This TMJ question is a little off-topic and I've already asked several VA disability experts who also don't know the answer. I hope u can clarify this dilemma. Here it is:
I'm 10% SCD-TMJ (34mm max unassisted vertical opening, painful motion principle) and my VA records contain several instances of physician documented reports of me stating having to a change my diet to soft foods due to TMJ condition and choking episodes. An oral surgeon also reported the need for surgical TMJ correction and 26 mm oral opening. The C&P examiner was a physician's assistant, not a dentist so this would explain the measurement differences. I didn't meet the 20% SCD criteria because the evidence didn't show dietary restrictions?!? This is where I would like clarification: Previously, a doctor had to make the diet change recommendation for validation, not the vet. But the current regs state "modified diets must be recorded or verified by a physician." It seems that the documentation of a diet change is now acceptable for rating purposes. Am I wrong on this? I’m thinking about requesting a HLR if it’s just a matter of medical documentation of the diet change.

I see a lot of information about diabetes being the primary with a lot of secondaries. With some of the information I have in the linkages between diabetes and sleep apnea and hypertension I am wondering if sleep apnea or hypertension could be the primaries with diabetes as the secondary? Have you all heard of something like that?

Question my service connected disability is my lower back. I refuse to use narcotics for my pain, so I use IBUPROFEN and now I have diverticulitis. My non doctor opinion, I feel due to the IBUPROFEN is why I have diverticulitis.?? Also my hips started become an issue towards the end of my tour and it was noted, but did not get awarded for it. Now it is a big issue moving, with sitting, or walking or standing to long... When I need to get out of bed or up from a chair I put most of my weight using my arms, now I am suffering from rotary cuff issues in both shoulders, more so in my dominant arm...left. does all this apply?

I am a widow. I have been seeking help. My husband passed away last summer of metastatic liver cancer.
My husband served in the Navy during vietnam.
I have been so confused about service connected. Why I couldn't receive benefits from the VA. I just didn't get why I was denied?
My husband has a box full of medical history. That what you shared also relates to service connected. So the medications my husband was taking during the time of his services could have caused liver damage? When his mother died while he was in the service could have caused severe depression, drinking alcohol, causing mental disorder like PTSD, using medications on top of that damaging his liver sclerosis of the liver. I was his wife of 27 years. Am I entitled to his VA Pension, that while he was alive, the percentage of service connected disability was not as high as it should have. But he's dead. Can that all change to 100% because of service connected?
