    Kinetic R1 Direct Drive Trainer on Amazon: amzn.to/2OLskq8
    Here's your first look at the new Kinetic R1 Smart Control Trainer, which combines a Rock & Roll trainer with a direct drive trainer. This builds upon the Smart Control series, which now includes ANT+ & Bluetooth Smart, so that all apps can easily connect to it.

    I know it's not "silent" but it's pretty darn good.
    Love the idea of some wiggle on a trainer so very keen to see you and Lama get these for a more in depth review.
    Price isn't awful for us poor Aussies either... still we shall see. #Aussietax

    Shout out for GP Lama. Some innovation in the smart trainer field

    Rolling feature rocks:)
    So another internally driven belt drive "direct" drive trainer? I guess technically it is similar to rest of bunch as direto/flux/kickr, with exception of Neo of course.

    Is there any news out there on the R1? Love my road machine and have been waiting a little to upgrade to a direct drive. Wanted to go with the R1 but don’t see much in the way of reviews.

    The ability to use a trainer at a race site is going to be the BIGGEST factor into the next trainer I buy. Before this trainer, the Tacx Neo was the only one that offered this. I believe this is a giant advantage

    Also looking for more recent reviews. Have the connection and power issues been resolved with newer firmware? CT sale ends today and I want to pull the trigger on one but am afraid to since everyone seems to be silent on them after the first release....

    Will it work with the Kickr Climb? That would be awesome.

    You don’t really offer up your opinion on this, other than road feel is ok. This is $150 more expensive than the Kickr Core, but has the built in rocker and can work without power. The Kickr is virtually silent, though (which I think matters more to me) and will work with the Climb. What are your thoughts on the trade-offs?

    Just got a mail with Tacx claiming the new Flux S is "This direct drive trainer is designed to bring vibrations and noise levels to the absolute minimum, resulting in the most silent flywheel equipped bike trainer available." - probably just marketing, but it looks like the new gen of trainers are going to be quite exciting, and the increasing number of choices are awesome.

    Shane Miller can obviously put out over 2000w. After all. I'm sure he's been using his Kickr^2

    The Kinetic’s rocking motion is exactly how it should be done. Combine this this a front wheel turntable and this should provide superb bike motion simulation.
    The other companies are laggards in this area...perhaps there are patent issues?

    Does anyone know if this fits boost spacing on modern mountain bikes? I believe my rear spacing is 148mm.

    Interesting to know if all those moving parts and Pivot points creates long term reliability / maintenance needs

    • @Dcrainmaker
      @Dcrainmaker  Před 5 lety +2

      Yeah, I suspect we won't see any issues - mainly because they've been doing the Rock & Roll thing for like a decade or something. So that's honestly the one component of the entire thing I'd worry least about (since it's the one component they understand the most).

    • @jerrygreen3873
      @jerrygreen3873 Před 5 lety +1

      I agree that long term reliability is always a question for any product. My 2017 Kickr locks onto my bike with a thru axle. I discovered that the thru axle was loose. So I guess the takeaway is to always check your equipment before each ride.

      I've owned a Rock and Roll Smart Control for a year and a half. The pivot mechanism doesn't wear out in that unit and it won't in this one either. Only thing I did was dis-assemble and lubricate the pivot mechanism once with silicon spray lube to solve a creaking issue...and it turns out the creaking issue wasn't even in the trainer after all. It was the rear wheel quick release skewer cam mechanism going dry.

    I think this is the only smart trainer on the market that will direct connect to your laptop with a built in USB connection. No drop outs!!

    I see an USB port in the back. Does that mean that it will support hardwired mode instead of ANT+/Bluetooth? This would help with signal dropouts in environments with a lot of electromagnetic interference.

    • @fukawitribe
      @fukawitribe Před 5 lety +1

      Yep, it does support hard-wire mode apparently. Good on them for that.

    • @duanegran
      @duanegran Před 5 lety

      At this time only perfpro supports the USB connection, but in time more app makers can support it. I agree with you that it would be helpful in some circumstances and would be ideal in a cycling studio environment too.

    What I find interesting is this whole discussion on the "protocol mess". Personally I think that is totally irrelevant. The old wheel based resistance unit is great, which absolutely stellar road feel. by far the best of the wheel on trainers I have tried.. If it works with trainer road, zwift and fulgaz, what more do you want. Sure open protocol support is great and opens up a bunch of niche apps. But does it make the main apps work better - no, so who cares.

    I passed on a $210 discount because I could not find any newish reviews of this trainer. Early issues is all I could find. Nobody posting any reviews claiming issues were fixed. Ray was never sent a unit for full review. Kurt Kinetic if you are listening, send Ray a unit for testing please. I won’t buy one if he does not review it! Can anyone confirm, have the issues been fixed?

    "you can use it as a regular non-smart trainer" at a race site. You should state this for every trainer you review.

      Is there any smart trainer that can't be a non-smart trainer?

  • @nickrea1969
    @nickrea1969 Před 3 lety

    I'd steer clear of anything to do with Kurt Kinetic especially if you want to use an android device. Head on over to their website and see the number of people complaining about the app crashing. I didn't think about that before I bought it and you can imagine how frustrating it is half way through a ride to have the app crash and lose all your data. It's been an issue for a few years by the looks of things and they can't be bothered to sort it out properly. It leaves you with a near useless trainer where you can pedal blindly unless you are subscribing to Zwift or similar. Mine also leans to the left. Common occurrence judging by the forums. You can dismantle and reassemble the mechanism to see if that works or as one person suggested stick a magazine under the foot to raise it up. I don't expect to do that after spending hundreds on a trainer. If you really want to see how much they care about the customer, look at how old their videos are on CZcams. Says it all really. The rock and roll seemed like a good idea but you'd be better off spending your money with one of the more established manufacturers.
