    Great video. I highly recommend 100 grains by volume of Blackhorn209 and the Barnes 250-grain Spit-Fire T-EZ. I sighted in 5 of these muzzleloaders last year that we bought for new hunters and every one of them shot that bullet and powder combo under 1 1/2" at 100 yards. A smoke brake can also go on there and it shoots your smoke to the left and right so you can see your shot better.

      From what I understand, 100gr by volumetric measure should weigh about 70 grains. I do like Barnes bullets! Had great luck with the Xpander MZ in the past. Might have to try that Spit-Fire sometime.

    • @SpotterVideo
      @SpotterVideo Před rokem +1

      @@TheOutdoorGeneralist I have recently developed a new type of muzzleloader cartridge which contains no corrosive chemicals.
      It is loaded from the muzzle but ejects itself from the barrel after use and is non-corrosive. This product sets a new standard in safety and reliability for muzzleloader ammunition in the same way shotgun shells are standardized for use in shotguns. Shotshells have a load of shot and powder which produce a safe pressure in shotguns manufactured by many different companies. The pressure produced by this cartridge can be designed to work safely in the muzzleloaders produced by the various manufacturers. It would also greatly help new muzzleloader shooters with safety, and it would also give them a product which will not destroy the barrel of their muzzleloader due to corrosive residue.

      Those who say smokeless powder cannot be used in a muzzleloader may not know “Blackhorn 209” is 83% smokeless powder, based on the MSD sheet for the product. Therefore, the claim that smokeless powder cannot be used safely in a muzzleloader falls apart very quickly.
      This cartridge could also be loaded with BH209 or a similar formulation in states which do not allow "smokeless" powder during muzzleloader season, in the same way the breechloading "Firestick" cartridge is now used in the "Nitrofire" muzzleloader. This would be a "Muzzlestick" cartridge which would work in thousands of other modern muzzleloaders, which cannot use the "Firestick" cartridge.
      This cartridge can also be removed from inline muzzleloaders by removing the breechplug.
      I am now looking for a company willing to mass produce this new cartridge for the market. I would greatly appreciate it if you would pass this information along to those you know who may be interested in this new product.

      A link is found below which demonstrates this new product.

    Really enjoy this video, might have to buy me one of them. I have a CVA optima and used 100 grains of 2 triple 7 pellets with a 250 gr Hornady XTP it seemed to only have the zip up to a 80-100 yards. I basically feel it’s like shooting a deer at point blank with a 45 acp. @ a 100 yards. Not that it’s terrible but I shot a small buck at 40 yards and the slug didn’t exit. Trying Barnes tmz 250 grainers. Would you recommend the 30” barrel? Or stay with the 26”?

      Should be able to shoot Blackhorn in your Optima if I’m not mistaken. Not sure on the barrel length or what the velocity difference would be in a muzzleloader, but the 26” is nice and handy though. • @ditchdigger93
    @ditchdigger93 Před rokem +1

    No, the price and availability of Blackhorn 209 powder isn't kind of ridiculous, it's very ridiculous. Everything I've seen about the Blackhorn says it's doesn't start shooting until you exceed 80 grains. (By weight). I was fortunate to get crazy buying the Tripple Seven Firestar pellets at Walmart a year ago for $17.00 per package of 60 and they work very well in my Optima V2 LR and my other three inlines so I'm good on powder for a long time anyway. Although there is a pretty good crud ring issue with Tripple Seven for some reason. If you want some really dirty shooting, get yourself some Pyrodex, really dirty stuff, but it shoots good other than that problem. And finally, that SST bullet is very hard to beat for the price. Bought about twenty boxes of them from Midway for $13.00 and they shoot very accurately through all three of my guns. (Cleaning), there is never too much of it with a muzzleloader! Clean it up completely clean and then go back once a month and do it again, you will get more crud every time. There is no such thing as too much cleaning. The generous use of bore butter in the barrel when you're done, or think you are, helps tremendously you'll find out too.

    It's pretty sad that a muzzleloader shoots better than more than half the rifles out there.I bought the same muzzleloader and completely love it and if you can afford to shoot the BH 209 stay with that it does make a world of difference, that's all I shoot out of mine after a little testing with some other powder and even after shooting it a few times you still don't need to clean it until after hunting season if you choose too. The ram rode is only for field use not sure why they made it like that

      Agree! Great shooting piece. The BH 209 makes sense for me with the low volume I’m going to shoot with it. Folks don’t seem to like the ramrod, but I like it personally. I just purchased this exact rifle, but in the Alpine Vail camo pattern at my local Fin Feather and Fur two weeks ago. Here we are in 2023 and “STILL” Blackhorn 209 powder is “NOWHERE” to be found! What a joke! What a very, very bad joke! I really don’t want to shoot anything else in it but the black horn 209, It looks like that plans not happening though. I swear, I almost want to take this rifle back just because of this fact, and this fact alone. Because it’s just totally absurd. And the few people that I do know in the universe that have found the Blackhorn 209 powder Paid $80 minimum for 8 ounces of it! Are you kidding me? Just totally and completely absurd what the Hodson Powder Company is pulling and has been pulling for quite some time now. If you are lucky enough to be one who finds it just make sure that the company is legit and not asking you to just pay with PayPal, the Cash app, or Zelle. These companies are scam artist and will 100% take your money!!

      Thanks for your reply. At this point I would also. I watched a video where someone said they had gotten a hold of theirs from a Cabela’s in South Dakota. This person lived in Pennsylvania. I live in Northeast Ohio, but entertained the thought that I just might have been able to get a hold of some if they still had some. Called them up and they did have 2/8 ounce cans left. So you know my next question was can you ship it to me? He said he couldn’t ship it, but they possibly could on their website, and if they could, it would say they could. Well, of course they couldn’t. Which really leaves me to wonder how this other person that Is a huge CZcams Influencer got a hold of theirs, but a regular every day Joe can’t. They lived in Pennsylvania, And I guarantee you they didn’t drive all the way to South Dakota to purchase their’s! So do you know what’s going on here in 2023? Years after you posted this video and it’s still unavailable everywhere? From what I’ve heard it’s been like this for years. So my question is I know your explanation for it at the time this video was created, but is it the same explanation that they are giving everyone today? Are they not going to manufacture it any longer now? Or are they doing this on purpose just to make maximum profit off everyone, and ensure that every milligram they make is going to sell? It just really seems like a really lousy deal to me that they sell a ML that performs the best with a certain black powder, that is also highly recommended by the manufacturers the gun, however one will never be able to get it. And it’s not just me who’s unhappy about it, theres a lot of folks who are!!
