The Jose Bautista-Rougned Odor beef featured an iconic bat flip and an equally iconic face punch

- Baseball at its finest. This beef features two moments so memorable and exciting they were each featured on T-shirts. I’m talking, of course, about Jose Bautista’s bat flip after his ALDS three-run home run, and Rougned Odor’s revenge punch the next season.
Bautista and Odor are both passionate men, with a strong sense of what’s right and what’s wrong on the baseball field. Those senses of right and wrong don’t necessarily line up, but they both believe in justice … which is what lead to some violent beef.
In the aftermath of the bat flip and the punch, both players scrambled to the press to define the other guy as The Bad Guy. Baseball players, coaches, legends, and fans took side and the result was that both guys had to own the role of villain a little bit. This was a reputation-defining beef, whether they wanted it to be or not.

Mitch Keller And more hard punches 😂
This is whole thing just reminds me why baseball is nowhere near as popular as basketball and football among younger people. I'm somewhat of a rangers fan and thought bautista was well within his rights of the bat flip. It's like dancing in the endzone for football. If you don't want it to happen then stop them before they do it.
@@zaxx29 actually is much less than dancing in the endzone if you look af it, is beyond me that most of these pro MLB players take part in a lot of other sports in their youths, they surely have celebrated stuff and had stuff celebrated in their faces, they are grown ass men ffs and they still get upset about little things like this

That punch is the last time Odor has connected on a swing.
LMAO
True. Bautista will retire soon knowing full well that he beat Odor in every way, performance, stats, taking a punch like a man, being a better fielder. Odor will get replaced by that one 2B prospect the Rangers have and disappear from history. MLB fans will always remember Bautista's clutch home run and bat flip in a hotly contested game that featured one of the longest innings witnessed.
The Caynuck I am pretty sure nobody has heard from him in like 2years soooo
@@iangallagher4135 Who? Funny, because 3 different teams actually rented Bautista's services less than 2 years ago. People remember Bautista, whether they liked or hated him. It's just he's not playing because nobody wants a 40 year old washed up player past his prime. If Bautista put the numbers he put up in the 2010's earlier in his career, he would've been a HoF candidate. Barely anyone knows about Odor, he's 26 and already is on a downward spiral. The Rangers have an upcoming prospect that is set to replace Odor. If the Rangers don't resign Odor (which would be smart to not resign him), he will likely not be signed by any team making a playoff push. The only team that'd really consider him are the Orioles and Tigers, who kind of need players to fill in the holes before their prospects come up.
The Caynuck You got a good point and I don’t think of anything to come back with soooo

that bat flip is one of the most iconic and imporant baseball moments of the 2010s; without that flip, bat-flipping doesn't become as accepted a celebration by new school base ball fans, it's really a transitional moment in baseball history
Totally agree. It really changed the MLB
Facts!
You have to include BOTH actions... If the Bat Flip didn't garner the reaction it did from the Rangers it would not have become so controversial making it an enticing celebration for the younger generation.

What I don't think most have caught on to, is that HR celebration and batflip started a movement in baseball. Every big moment hit or HR now is compared to that one. The" batflip heard around the world" is the benchmark. It created so much controversy from the old guard but it really opened the doors for that kind of thing. Since then everyone is flipping their bats or doing their thing when they hit a big shot. And this is where the MLB "let the kids play" stemmed from really. I even read one of the mlb.com writers saying if jays had won the world series after that it would have been the MLB logo for decades to come because it was such an iconic moment in baseball.
Bautista bat flip is easily one of the greatest baseball moments ever
Until Joey Bats hit Toronto, I didn’t know that a bat flip like that could say so much 😂
NRM Productions Absolutely not.
The didn’t even win the World Series that year.
Dirk McGough So? Just because they didn’t win the World Series doesn’t mean it isn’t a great baseball moment. It was a series winning homer in the playoffs in one of the best games of the decade, capped off with probably the best batflip of all time
NRM Productions It was a great moment, but not even close to one of the best of all time.
I’m pretty sure the punch is more popular than the bat flip
Baseball needs more of this, the pretentious gentleman’s game no celebration or emotion attitude the baseball purists have is so intolerable. If baseball want to keep up with the nba or nfl they have to encourage excitement.
Exactly. Baseball has no personality. Mike Trout is the best player in the MLB and i know nothing about him on or off the field.
@@johng45746 That's more a problem with promotion of the sport , than showing emotion on the field though.
@@HarryOsborneAS31 It's a problem with both promotion and emotion, MLB is the worst major sport at letting players promote themselves and the "unwritten rules" are a load of bullshit that pressure players not to show emotion on the field
Chris Sousa what is there to promote when guys do show emotion and personality, like Batista, and get flamed for it because they are disrespecting the game. While LeBron celebrations and Gronk TD spikes go viral and make the sport even more popular
So you want more dbags in the game? More fights and moments of passion? Not better baseball but something more emotional based? I couldn't disagree more with you, we need less of this B.S. in the game and more guys playing the game hard and less of the flashy show off stuff. Fights are for the NHL, showoffs and emotional headcasses are for the NBA, the NFL is filled with pre-madonnas who put themselves above the team, calm clear heads and smart athletes are what we need in baseball not more cocky jackasses
i watched this live 5 years ago during my first year of University. This was a rollercoaster for an hour when you're 19 and your favourite team has this reputation of getting screwed over and, being canadian, there's this lingering doubt in the back of your head because we really don't get to win at anything except hockey basically. it was intense watching with some of my floor mates, most of whom weren't baseball fans... let alone sports fans, but we all started cheering when bautista hit the home run. the most excited i've ever been for a baseball game, all ignited beef.
10:38 yeah that ain’t it. As a Twins fan, I think of Bautista, I think of the game 5 home run, and I don’t know anyone who thinks of him as a punching bag first.

Odor is a guy you love when he’s on your team but hate when he’s not. That simple
Gotta respect Bautista for his accomplishments. To go from a guy who played for 5 teams in 1 year to an all-star and one of the leagues most feared hitters is quite the journey. As for Odor, his career will be remembered for punching an all-star in the face.
That game at the Rogers Centre when Odor walked around the bases slowly, wasn't that also the same game he tripped and fell on his face running to first?
Yea I was at the game jose hit another 3 home run😂😂
This game was great. I was caught up in Jays mania for a few years when they were destroying everyone, so this was a big game. I had to work unfortunately, but my friend was texting me and keeping me up to date. He told me the bases were loaded, so I ran to my work van and listened on the radio as Bautista cranked the homerun. While they didn't end up winning the pennant or the world series, it's still up there with one of my favourite all time sports moments. I'm always gonna remember where I was when it happened.
I remember walking home checking the score when nothing was happing for a while because they were doing the review, it gave me just enough time to get home and see the bottom of the inning.
How are you "destroying everyone" and don't have a WS title to show just how destructive you were?
It wasn't Bases Loaded. 2 guys on.
Yo, even as a die-hard Red Sox fan, that bat flip was one of my favorite sports moments in the past decade. It was RAW, and Jose is probably my second favorite Blue Jay ever.

@@seanshaw5164 The Bautista slide was his only move that deserved anger. You may recall that he was deliberately beaned by a Matt Bush fastball just before, and he knew it was because of the flip.
