What's some of your favorite Nintendo Wii U and 3DS games?
Super Mario 3d land for 3ds and Splatoon for the Wii u!
I never owned a wii u but my cousin owns one. I would say mario 3d world because I have the switch version and I have beat it. My favorite 3ds games are Mario 3d land and pokemon x. Also if you can, get rhythm heaven. It's very good.
Dr. Luigi
Wii U-probably Xenoblade X
3ds-probably Zelda Link Between Worlds
I absolutely adore the Yokai Watch series, and it's one of the many examples of hidden gems on the 3ds that don't get the attention they deserve.

the $250 limit is to comply with banking regulations. if any company lets you hold more than $300 at once in an account, the us considers that to be a bank and requires the company to hold a banking license. it’s why that limit is basically on most digital game stores
I bet Nintendo can afford the bank liscence.

@@ryan20028 You underestimate pirates lol
I'd also hope for him making an emulation site for all this, doubt he will because he's got a good heart... even if it isn't illegal and technically not pirating. By definition pirating is the stealing of products then reselling them or as a consumer buying the stolen products you can be charged with piracy. Emulation sites don't make money outside of ads or donations, you aren't buying games from them, therefore no one is pirating, thus why Emuparadise back in 2015 could only be slapped with a copyright claim and even that is arguable. i support emulation even with pirated stuff because the big companies doenst care about the old games, how many times Nintendo has shamessly charge 60 usd for the same game like Zelda Twilight Princess (which has a cube, wii and wii u version) enough already, i shouldnt pay a full price for a ported game (pokemon lets fucking go eevee and pikachu are STILL on 60 usd despite has been like 5 years)

That game store should've been the last thing he completed.
Or Screw up foundation funds
I’m upset that people online have been ignoring the context of you doing this. I didn’t know that you were helping to archive games until yesterday. Thank you for doing this!
I wanted to buy games on the eshop on my 3DS. But they are still charging full price for all the games.
The thing is.. the entire eShop has been pirately available since what feels like forever. There wasn't anything missing. You can already download and play anything that you desire. Right now. Even the most obscure indie ones.
I just don't understand how he wants to "help archiving it" when the entire archive is already complete.
I'm not sure what you are referring to. After a few days, whatever context you are referring to is kind of lost. But based on the comments you have, I'm assuming it has something to do with pirating? My brother and I added the Homebrew channel to our 3DSs. I don't like the idea, but I'd rather have it as an option if I need it for patches or DLC I can't obtain now, maybe games that were only digital downloads now. That said, I'm an old-school gamer manchild and I like having the actual games themselves, so I'd still hunt them if I can find them. For me, Homebrew is only there as a last resort. I wish I could do something like this, but maybe just for the games I'm actually interested in, money being no object.
And I do agree, his cause is way more "noble" (if that's the right word for it) than my own. I do think there's an awful lot of shovelware on those systems that we could probably not need to save, but then I guess equally "who gets to decide what is shovelware?"
@@meisterwu8922 He already said why - the games were donated to the Video Game History Foundation. It's worth explaining since people seem to be too shortsighted to grasp what the hell that means.
The foundation's plan is to publish their archived games, IF the law gets updated so that video game preservation is taken more seriously and old media becomes public domain. Let's say in 10-20 years, a developer wants to play an obscure but unsuccessful indie title that is no longer sold, but had some neat ideas they'd like to study and improve on. The foundation would be able to provide that historian with a legal way to access and play these games (either by remote play, digital copy, or actually visiting the facility), similar to how a library lends out books. They are playing the long game and while it's not a 100% foolproof plan, it's still the best course of action that doesn't involve illegal activity.
Even the pirates still appreciate having more legitimate backups around, so that's not even a strong riposte. It's also just silly to see people whining about how Jirard chooses to spend his money. $22K wasn't exactly going to build an orphanage.

+okani Exactly right. Which is why I wanted to do this legally rather than bootleg things.
A lot of people put their hearts & souls behind these games in a time where Nintendo was in its biggest crunch period competitively. Nintendo's fighting Apple & Google in the Smartphone Revolution.
And Nintendo's fighting Sony & Microsoft in the ongoing Console Wars.
Nintendo fought for the 3DS to succeed at all costs & Wii U as great as it was just couldn't carry its weight.
So for these indie or 3rd party developers who stood by Nintendo in this time, I wanted to reward them as much as possible for maintaining a presence on the platforms run by the last TRUE gamemaker.
I say last TRUE gamemaker because Nintendo has no ulterior motives for why they're in this business.
They're simply here to make & sell games for us to play in its purest form. Seal of Quality still matters.
If we want that ethos to survive, we must support the company who embodies that ethos.
Those who help that company should be rewarded for keeping gaming 'GAMING'.
No gacha, no ads, no FMV cinematic movies posing as games...but ACTUAL Gameplay as the focus first.

I data hoard as a hobby and the amount of innocuous things that I've accidentally preserved is honestly a little frightening. Things like software versions that had all their download pages removed, or game versions I had squirreled away somewhere that got updated with no way to revert. It's surprising in the worst way seeing things disappear.
People like Jirard and Kelsey are my actual heroes and I hope things like this become easier, or even legally required in the future.
honestly the ecology cant handle that. the alexandria library was a couple of rooms and contained most of the existing material. soon we will have people going "every a.i. created art piece is unique and needs to be preserved". humanity will need an ever growing trillions of terabytes to "preserve" all sorts of really marginal things, which of course takes tons of hd materials, server power, internet bandwith etc. and then indeed we have people doing it separately for the same things for "backup purposes"
so i certainly hope it wont become legally required. i game and collect some but when he said he bought 866 wii u games i was just thinking "over 600 of those are absolute showelware, why would anyone care those"
humanity needs to learn to let some things go. museums are supposed to give out the general idea of the said era with a set of objects and some others acknowledged through pictures. if we hoard everything from the past then we will just end up destroying the actual world
Omg what have you saved?!
FYI, some Wii U games do not show their dlc in their store page - you can only see the dlc if you boot up the game and click the shop icon. Pikmin 3, for example, has no dlc listed on the store, but does have several dlc packs available from the game’s main menu.
oh wow
Further complicating things, there are some games that don't even have their dlc until you reach a certain point in the game. Looking over at you, Fire Emblem
you could get around the icon limit by modding your 3ds to have multiple home menus. i have well over the limit on my 3ds
11:45 well I’m here at 4 weeks and you’re already beyond 1M views! You deserve it, what a wild video. Never knew companies could make it so hard to give them your money haha
As someone who skipped both the 3DS and Wii U consoles entirely, it is comforting to know that, due to the efforts of preservationist like you all, I have not completely missed out on those chapters in gaming.
And pirates
The question is… how is this going to stop you from missing out? I don’t have access to his Nintendo Account 😂
He hasn’t really contributed. The files for all these games have already been dumped for use on emulators. And it’s not like you’ll be able to access his specific consoles
Wii U wasn't worth it overall but 3ds was awesome
@@Lucifer-lf7pw Once a game becomes completely impossible to buy legitimately its no longer piracy, its preservation.
He did it. He completed the eShop. The hero we do not deserve
@La Cueva del Virgen pff any jerk can games from homebrew but getting from the official mode feels sooo great.
incredible work but now we need the Full Uncut version of the Story! video length be dammed! just listened to Video Game History Podcast with Frank and Kelsey. all the details left on the cutting room floor could make for an interesting video.
18:26 XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
Lols
😬
You are an actual hero for this.
😮 $50!?
You refunded 1 of the many Link cards they brought.
Relax
Lemme hold 50 til next forever
hero for what? the 3ds / Wii u libraries are already available to download for free on the internet.
he just wasted his money for no reason.
Completely incredible journey; thanks Jirard for doing this for gamers everywhere!
What did this do for me
@@Mandarin9900 He has every single title. Which means said titles could be uploaded and emulated in the near future so they aren’t lost forever
@@JakeMeOff *Every single title available on the US eShop at that time. Even they admit in this video that during their project there were titles which got removed from the store. There already have been archival projects that are complete and have all the games from all eShops around the world and have games that are not available anymore. This doesn't.
How the hell do you have more subscribers than me?
@@MK8MasterJunjie Maybe because you're mid
This is an absolute herculean effort to pull off. Really impressive you were able to persevere through all the Nintendo bull
One of the very few youtubers that actually responded to my comments no matter hoy many numbers they had. I'm proud of you Jirard (and your team!!), so much so so that I ended up making my own channel. Pretty much to accomplish these incredible task with precision and great effort! This is the type of job that the companies itself MUST DO to preserve video games. Pay a team to download every possible game and leave on a vault or to historians. Also I really don't care if people already ripped everything through piracy, what truly matters is you got the og games and are available for preservation. Excelent video!!!! And btw, will you keep a copy of all those games?? 🤭🤭
would’ve loved to have seen an entire long-form documentary on this
Could even milk it as a Patreon exclusive, but yeah this was a fascinating dive.
Hey, guys. Im trying to complete calling this guy out on every vid hes ever made. Should i make a career out of it?
yes
I can’t believe no one was willing to sponsor this video like I get not giving the entire 23k but at least part of the video should have been sponsored. Thank you for doing this.
The end of this video literally brought tears to my eyes. To know someone went through all this for the sake of game preservation, and donating all these games to a foundation that cares about this, touched me deeply - just because it's beautiful to see people care as much as myself about this silly hobby of ours, and that they use their time and resources for good like this. Thank you, you're good people for this 💖
I don’t understand the foundation. What’s the point in them archiving everything if they’re never letting anyone else access it? Imo, hshop has done a much better job at preservation in that they have everything from every country and they let people access it rather than just keeping it themselves, at that point it’s just a personal collection. Nintendo also have a copy of absolutely everything, so if that’s what preservation is, then nintendo are already doing it themselves and it’s pointless.
@@ThisWillCharacter ☝️🤓
In this episode of The Completionist, Jirard completes THE ESHOP!
If there were an Emmys for CZcams videos, this should be nominated for video of the year
god bless you all for doing this. my jaw literally dropped when you explained how the dlc works on 3ds
Imagine all the Effort this Team went through and how easy it would be for Nintendo to send those games to preserving them forever...
well id imagen that there would be a crap-ton of copyright and licensing issues with all the non 1st party game
@@bronistevoni yup and lots of smaller devs release their products into the wild over the years (illegaly), but it's definitely not as easy for Nintendo as to just give a copy of the whole eshop catalogue to someone.
Nintendo: "We are closing down the Eshop!"
Jirard: "Complete it!"
Completion taken to the extreme...
I appreciate it.
“All these games will on”… yes as some worthless digital licenses… great work.
As someone who went through and had a bit of a browse on the 3DS last week, and picking out a couple cheap games, I can say I am stunned that you had the patience to go through and navigate to every freaking game one by one, from the start, over and over. My God.
me too I couldn't have continued
The cards were probably hard to buy in large amounts because online scammers often ask their marks to send money via gift cards
My thought as well when they first tried to purchase at the game stop. 200 dollar limit.
Wow! First vid I've seen of yours and it was a fantastic experience earned my sub
you have done a great service for all gamers everywhere. no media should be lost media.
Unfortunately, the same could not be said for dementia patients in the past 9 years
I’m so glad you guys did this, preservation is so important and the fact all the hard work of so many developers was at risk of getting wiped out only for you guys to come in and preserve them is amazing.
hShop
@cjmaverick Yeah but this is the legal way
@@Amber-jb8su how is it more legal than HShop if they were to share it?
@@Amber-jb8su how is it preservation if those games are LOCKED to those systems? At that point, it’s the equivalent of just buying every single game for yourself - how does that help anyone and the true overall effort to preserve and benefit everyone else? At that point, hShop has already done that.
Preserved for one person to play and that's it. Thanks Nintendo's legal team!
This seems like something most people won’t realise quite how huge a deal it is for maybe decades, because it is that astonishing an achievment. The preservation of creative works is important whatever the medium, from film to music to art and of course video games. Thankfully we live in an age where media can be preserved, but even with the technology we have it takes tremendous will and dedication. So congratulations to Jirard and the rest of the team, and I hope you work here will be recognised. And if not? Well it doesn’t matter, because either way this is monumental for the history and preservation of video games. ♥
but didn't hshop already archive everything
aslo, side effect, the price of that 3ds and wiiu just sky rocketed if he evern needs to recover any of the money
@@atomic5134 yes
@@atomic5134 everything siginificant about Nintendo's previous consoles has been archived already on the Internet Archive, Vimms Lair, and whatever Piracy site that you can think of, but the internet denizens that believe they have a moral authority for not just downloading the games they wanted to play because it's piracy, which has been over-complicated with people caring about the morality despite the face the people who made piracy popular did so under the montra of 'If it's Digital, than it's Free."
Huh? Don't worry these titles have been reserved by scene groups (they always have) & better yet, even a way to play them on brand new readily available and future HW for many generations, it's called the PC & emulation also via just modding the OG console if you so choose.
