I have not found the strength to finish Morts last video ❤ After seeing his regular lameness veterinarian, we discovered the problems with his feet had progressed to a point where it was not ethical to continue trying to treat him. Combined with his ongoing dental issues, we decided the kindest thing to do was to set him free from his pain. I will share his whole story eventually I am just not ready to yet.

Your vet-tech background really gives you a clear view of Mort's dental problems. The previous owner giving meds have had such a long-lasting effect on his mouth bones healing after extraction. But he seemed to eat the treat with enthusiasm which means his digestion is working and he wants to eat.
Mort's lameness caused by laminitis and his small feet contribute to his slowness in coming in from the pasture for his pellets. If horses could only talk ... but their body language tells you a lot.
Horses are having a lot of medical challenges just like the TLC humans who care for them. Your use of radiography is awesome. TY, CC, for posting this video even though you didn't get the hope-for medical checks.

really good video (I'm a retired dental hygienist/former horse owner) so very interesting. I remember having to have my horses teeth floated after I had loaned him out to his former owner when I went back to school. He wasn't taken very good care of (quite surprised) so it was interesting watching the vet reshape his teeth so he could eat better. He was looking really thin when I picked him back up. I love the way you let the horses load in their own time.

Great video! Those feet are tiny! As a kid I knew a mare & her grown gelding with those tiny feet. They had similar problems as Mort. I was told tiny feet were once fashionable for their breed & showing area (halter). Not sure if that’s true tho. So sad. Mort is lucky to have you watching out for him. Such a pleasure to watch your videos. You take great care of your horses. Loved seeing you patiently load everyone and your tips for making trailering routine and safe.

Great video, I have rescue dogs. Every dog I adopted over the years has had preexisting health issues from past history not known about the usually are strays rescue gets in no back history. I see it's the same with horses . People are surprised I would take on a special dogs that are seniors that nobody else will take. They become the best dogs when given a chance to be who they are imperfections and all. Im sure it most rewarding as you see the horses you care for become the beautiful horse they were meant to be imperfections and all. It makes us love them even more. Greetings from Pennsylvania 😊🐕🐾🐾

I've watched nearly every video on your channel now, and you are truly wonderful! I was wondering if it might be possible as you do videos like this to include estimates etc. of the costs of unexpected vet bills and so forth, so people can realistically understand that budgeting for a horse is a much bigger responsibility than basic overhead :) I think it could really help people understand there is a lot more that goes into it and hopefully create more awareness around overestimating what could go wrong and overbudgeting for those things. You are an amazing owner! Also it would be interesting to learn more about the auction industry and how groups of wild horses come to be in that environment up for sale, maybe you could touch upon it in one of Scarlett's updates

Uh, how unfortunate. I hope all goes well when they take out the broken tooth.
Actually, my father got a medication working in a similar way as a treatment for cancer. Not only did it prevent healing, it actively destroyed the teeth. Hence, it was even considered whether all of his teeth should be extracted before therapy started. Fortunately, they decided against it. He still lost several teeth, but not not all of them.
I hope Mort will be doing fine and that this was his last teeth extraction.

I so enjoy learning so much about owning, teaching and caring for horses. It is really complicated and amazing and I bless your constant and loving care for these fellas. I don't know if you will read this comment, but you did reply to some comment I made recently, and noted that I was apparently not understanding that the horse in question is a "wild" horse. I need to tell you that unless you are working with Prim, or the adorable pied/spotted tiny horse or the black one, I can hardly tell one horse from another as from my perspective [I am 82 year old woman and live in a 500 square foot senior apt. in Longmont, CO---on the edge of a lot of farm, livestock and mountains] I have only ridden horses maybe 2-3 times in my life, and had some limited but fun experience in Arizona helping with a newborn Paso Fino abandoned foal, and a big gelding, Seminole, for a few weeks---great experience, but I did want to pass this info on, because a lot of viewers may be similar to me....clueless. Thanks for your work and your videos. They are fascinating and take my mind off my own troubles. ----Stevie Willett-Shaw. Best wishes!

And loading critters, just hauled my sister's bull last week to sale barn, two thousand pounds of muscle and was able to get him loaded with out getting hurt, and he has hurt me. But I think he found a good home. Canner is not going to spend 1.50 a pound.
