- Is Jesus just a rehashed pagan deity? Is December 25th is the birthday of pagan gods? Christmas trees are pagan? Where did Santa come from? Is there anything wrong with celebrating Christmas? What is the REAL threat to Christmas today?
My mom was pro-Santa, my dad was not. She thought with a little counseling he would come around lol! He explained to her that we wouldn't be missing out on anything, and that we would make our own traditions.
And we did! We made our own Christmas ornaments, and moved the nativity figurines closer and closer to the manger. The baby Jesus figurine would be placed in the nativity on Christmas day, before we woke up.
One Christmas morning, my sister and I raced downstairs. We ran right past the presents to look at the nativity, and exclaimed, "Oh look! It's baby Jesus! He's here!"
We didn't miss a thing.
The better thing would have been your parents doing the right thing and telling you the truth about this satanic festival. Although I am sure they probably didn't know either. It just didn't care. Many people that keep this festival really have no clue that God hates this kind of stuff.

I know this video is from 5 years ago. But can I say I just love your brain. I was pagan for 30 years and recently saved by Jesus last January. I said some of these pagan things you brought up with absolutely no research behind it. Thank you and you, Sir, are one of my inspirations to pursue Apologetics.

It seems many of us had a season (some of us longer than others) of pagan practice or just athesim. I've been seeing a common thread of theological ignorance, that was certainly my problem. Glory to God for the blessing of this ministry.

The northern winter solstice is either on the 21st or 22nd December - Christmas Day is three days later !
On the Dead Sea Scroll's Biblical calendar, the Day of Atonement on our 28th September, is the most solemn, most holy day of the Biblical calendar - undoubtedly the day on which Jesus Christ, Yahshua our Messiah, was born !
Despite His birth, Joseph and Mary would have kept the Day of Atonement accordingly, and may even have wondered about the importance of the circumstances. Little did they all suspect then as they looked down on the manger, that that Child of God - the picture of innocence, pure as the driven snow, white as wool - would thirty three years later afflict their souls with His brutal, bloody Passover crucifixion:
Born to die for our crimson sins !
Is that why this is such a Solemn Day ?
We can eat but we cannot cook/work on the weekly Sabbath.
Why is the Day of Atonement a High Day Sabbath but is also without any cooking like the weekly Sabbath ?
It is because we have to fast on this day and so afflict our souls (see Leviticus 23:23-32).
Why ?
The second half of the year almost mirrors the first half of the year.
It is interesting to note that the 28th September Day of Atonement on the tenth day of the seventh Biblical month before the Feast of Tabernacles, corresponds to the same day that the Passover lamb is separated on the 30th March and the tenth day of the first Biblical month before the Feast of Unleavened Bread !
That is why we must afflict our souls by fasting on the Day of Atonement:
It is now actually in recognition of the atoning sacrifice that Christ determined to give us when “six days before the Passover” He arrived in Bethany on the 9th Abib (see John 12:1-15). There “where Lazarus was” Christ had supper after sunset starting the 10th Abib.
On a lowly donkey the next day, still the 10th Abib, thousands with palm fronds hailed Christ as “Hosanna” of Israel [Greek hoshia-na, of Hebrew nâ‛ yâsha‛, naw yaw-shah′ = Oh save ( savior )].
“Yahshua” finally entered Jerusalem, walked into the Temple and looked all around, before leaving at sunset (“eventide/even” between two successive days).
i.e. Hailed by thousands at Jerusalem, the Passover Sacrificial Lamb had gladly separated and presented Himself in the Temple:
on the 10th day of Abib ! (see Mark 11:1-11, Exodus 12:3-11)
Christ’s body was hurriedly laid in the tomb at eventide/even/sunset - four days later !
It is also interesting to note that the 50 year Jubilee is announced on the Day of Atonement on the tenth day of the seventh month before the Feast of Tabernacles (see Leviticus 25:9), corresponding to the same day that the Passover lamb is separated on the tenth day of the first month before the Feast of Unleavened Bread !
Abstaining from work and food on the Day of Atonement is the least we can do in appreciation of Christ's atoning sacrifice for us !
Every little pang of hunger should remind us of the horrendous ordeal Christ went through for us.
In fact if we don't show this appreciation for Christ's sacrifice, His Father says:
“For whatsoever soul it be that shall not be afflicted in that same day, he shall be cut off from among his people.
And whatsoever soul it be that doeth any work in that same day, the same soul will I destroy from among his people.” (Leviticus 23:29-30)
This connection between the Day of Atonement and the Passover was recognised at the time of Christ. They had a “custom” of releasing a prisoner at the Passover, in parallel with the instructions of the Day of Atonement in Leviticus 16: to choose two goats for an atoning sin offering.
One was sacrificed and the other was chased into the wilderness:
Pilate saith unto him,
What is truth?
And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them,
I find in him no fault at all.
( Pilate spoke the truth ! )
But ye have a custom, that I should release unto you one at the passover:
will ye therefore that I release unto you
the King of the Jews?
(John 18: 37-39)
Only by taking all the relevant Biblical quotes, into one compatible rationalisation, can we get to the truth !
Work Christ's gestation BACKWARDS from the Day of Atonement birth on the 28th September, and you get to the 6th January Epiphany conception; and 12 days further back you get to December 25th !
Working another 12 days FORWARDS from the Day of Atonement birth, you get to the Feast of Tabernacle's Last Great Day !
Strange that Christmas Day is 12 days BEFORE the Epiphany conception 265 day gestation and birth on the Day of Atonement, and then 12 days AFTER that is the Last Great Day - just like the "four and twenty elders" around the Throne of God in Revelations !
Are these the "Twelve Days of Christmas"🎶 around Christ in the womb ?
25th December was also never a part of the Roman festival of Saturnalia.

i.e the 25th of December started Mary's follicular phase and Christ was conceived on the 13th day Epiphany on the 6th of January and then born on the Day of Atonement on the 28th September !

Wow. I’ve been somewhat of anti Christmas for a few years now after coming across an article connecting the day to atonement of sins from saturnalia. I was so disgusted after that soI haven’t said the words “merry Christmas” since. I wanted to celebrate the birth of Christ with my brothers and sisters, but my conscience did not allow me to, freely.
Thank you for educating me and helping me find freedom through knowledge of scriptures and history. Woe to those wretched documents that have led so many into confusion. The Lord bless you and your ministries to reach more brothers and sisters.
Birthdays really shouldn't be celebrated how they are today, it is a tieck by the enemy to get us to worship ourselves.

I used to celebrate Christmas without a problem then I encountered religious zealots and threw away all my Christmas stuff LOL, then as I started to understand more about Jesus and the only thing that really mattered to him is that we did not deny him in our hearts. He's not a beat you over the head God but a joyful one, I forgiven one and loving one and I am more than sure that he would not mind that I celebrate Christmas on his behalf. I had a similar experience where I was weary about it. thankfully I just passed on actively participating in decorating and stuff and just had a boring one those couple years, but I never felt fully convicted one way or the other. So I kept the stuff still and just got rid of the Santa stuff. With the exception of depictions of Santa kneeling to baby Jesus, I've several of those. I get a lot of Joy seeing the world's idol bow down to a representation of our Lord.
We have a Just God... and He should be feared. Not feared in a way where you are frightened... but feared in a way to where you weep when you let Him down. We will receive the judgment that we deserve... and that means we are going to be held responsible for our own sins. Christ's crucifixion paid for the sins of Adam, and gave us ways to cleans ourselves without animal sacrifice... but we still must be baptized, confess, repent, forgive, take communion often to keep ourselves ready with oil in our lamps.
My friend, Christ paid for the sins of ALL. You cannot cleanse yourself. Baptism, communion, etc does NOT save you. Only the finished work of Christ on the cross.

I love this, as a debunking of lots of junk that are only deception. Just gotta say, tho, as a former celtic wiccan, I will not (cannot in clear conscious) have a tree, wreath, holly, mistletoe in my home. Because those things are absolutely items of idolatrous worship from the tradition I used to espouse. I love Christmas hymns tho.

When my kids were little, we use to bake a cake and put candles on it then sing happy birthday to Jesus. I wanted them to learn from an early age, what the holiday was really about. I told them that the gifts were from Jesus because he loved them. We celebrated Christmas every year. Then 10 yrs. ago, I saw a Christian documentary that told of how the bible says we aren't to have any kind of celebration on the days of the pagan's holidays. That Jer. 49 was about Christmas trees and we shouldn't have them. I argued I don't worship my Christmas tree so that doesn't pertain to me. But, since I'm not a gambler, I'd rather be safe than sorry, I quit celebrating the most favorite time of the year for me. I am so glad to see your video. I'm too old now to celebrate much, but I still sing happy birthday to my first love...Jesus.

Sorry about that and I have studied since then and have decided that I was right all along about the cutting down of trees was to make idols. I have been beat up badly by commenters on FB who didn't agree with that understanding. Why do Christians have to beat up each other instead of just making a nice statement the way you did. We had the Happy Birthday tradition for my boys when they were little, too! It's such a fun thing to do because kids love birthdays. We would also buy baby clothes for Jesus's birthday and deliver them to the Pregnancy Resource Center for the needy babies.

Jesus did not specifically say that we ought to celebrate His birth, yet in the Bible His birth is celebrated, not just by people but by the armies of heaven.

I get what you're saying about Santa, but I do have one major problem: Santa isn't real, and yet so many parents convince their children that he is, only for those children to later find out that he isn't. In extreme cases, this can cause children to distrust their parents. Even in the best of cases, it calls into question whether or not Jesus is real, because Santa is like Jesus in a lot of ways. He always sees you, he knows if you're being bad or good, he rewards you if you are good and punishes you if you're not, you never see him, and you have to believe in him in order to receive his gifts. If Santa isn't real, could Jesus just be another version of this character, equally as made-up? I wouldn't blame a kid for following that logic train. Not to mention the fact that it's just an outright lie, no matter how fun it is while it lasts. Personally, I'm glad my parents never told me Santa was real.
I’ve actually seen this thing floating around Facebook. The TLDR was this son discovered Santa wasn’t real and was asking his dad about it and threatening to tell the truth to his younger siblings. The dad said “you wanna hear the real secret? It’ll never let you look at Santa the same way again...” so the kid was all eager to listen and the dad told him about how year after year he would give his children presents under the guise of “Santa” and never expected any thank you in return. So the truth about Santa is that it’s really the spirit of giving just to give. Anonymously, freely, generously, lovingly giving. Blessing someone without any strings attached and without expectations. So then the son was now “in on it” and had the responsibility to keep being the secret Santa. Keep blessing and loving on his siblings to continue the joy of the season.
I don’t know if I’ll ever tell my kids that Santa is real-we always knew he wasn’t but still got gifts from “Santa”. But I love the sentiment of the spirit of giving, and Santa being an idea moreso

I totally get that sentiment, although you can't necessarily compare Santa to Christ. Part of the particularities of this argument lies in what is deemed as "similar"- like the characters in the many claims provided by Zeitgeist but don't account into the historical accuracy of the story (the Bishop of Myra in the 4th century, fused of course with other folkloric texts- with no claim to deity necessarily or of imposing divine judgement whatsoever). Whereas the truth of Christ (his relation to the Father and Holy Spirit, His Hypostatic Union, death and resurrection, being the Suffering Servant) can be testified of and the work of the Holy Spirit is present. If you choose not to tell of Santa, that's totally okay. If you choose to do so, that's fine too. However, it can't held to the same equilibrium because then you make the same claims. Please don't take this as an attack (it truly isn't) but it is exactly the same train of thought that many push for in the arguments "against Christmas"

Amazingly, I am really surprised how many Christians DO seem to have a problem with it. I didn’t realize that until reading through some of the comments on his Christmas videos. It’s Really surprising and somewhat disappointing. Especially when they try to tell other Christians that they’re wrong to be celebrating it. I mean, if they don’t want to, fine. It's really not, the passage is about not passing judgment on fellow believers over stupid opinions.
But if you still want to believe that this passage is about "fasting" for some reason then here's another one:

In central Europe, the tradition is that child Jesus gives gifts (like what was said that Martin Luther proposed in this video), with that it's a reminder of his ultimate gift to us, the salvation, as a possible symbolism. There can be no deep reason for getting gifts on Christmas at all; that people want to make other people happy would suffice.

Scripture tells us to not worship God in ways that other people worship their gods. Christmas has many elements from pagan origins, so I would say it's not ok.

I don't celebrate because one wonderful Christmas many years ago, God came to me and told me to throw away everything concerning Christmas and not to celebrate. That was over ten years ago. No one was in my ear or talking to me about these things. God himself came to me.
I have found over these ten years that I am the one rejected by those who celebrate Christmas. I usually don't tell people I don't celebrate. I already know they won't understand and it will cause a divide. Why is that? Why is it that because I don't celebrate I am treated differently. But if I get into the "Christmas spirit" then I am accepted?
If Christmas was a good thing then WHY do so many Christians have such a deep deep conviction about it? So something must be "off" about the holiday.

Not celebrating Jesus's birth is actually more in line with JW thinking that it is mainline Christianity. I know people love to go to Jeremiah 10, and they take a couple verses out of context to try to support their war against Christmas. Jer 10 is all about the ways of the heathen, which are that they carve and craft idols from trees, from the wood they don't burn, and they worship them as God. They worship idols that cannot walk, talk, see, hear, smell, think. Things that are nothing. And they spend much money, cover them in silver and gold. Doing such is vain God says.

God does specifically say through the old testament what the ways of the nations, the heathen, or pagans, were. He says what is evil, and abominable to Him, and how they should not worship Him. When they were worshipping God, but by the name of baal, they would sacrifice their babies, in the most excruciating and horrific ways, that tortured them. They worshipped baal, as the one God. So God has said, don't worship me as they do.
The ways of the heathen: sacrificing animals, sacrificing their own children, dances and rituals, the putting off of clothes, orgies, religious prostitution, chanting, vain repetition, cutting themselves, crafting idols in the form of man, beast, of earth or heaven and worshipping it. I'm sure there are more things.

Mike, I love your videos but I think you are off on this one, and perhaps you will change your perspective down the road. Some of my friends kids' became atheists when they realized that Jesus' wasn't really born on December 25th and that their parents had been lying to them about Santa Claus too. At that point they have lost trust and respect for their parents and from their perspective now Jesus looks like just another made up god, and can you really blame them? Why give the enemy any leverage?
By celebrating Christmas alongside the secular world, we are turning our Lord into just yet another pagan god by throwing Him in the celebratory pot during this holiday. How do you think that God feels about us celebrating the birth of His precious Son on on the day or in the way that the pagan world celebrated/s the birthdays of fake and made up idols?! How can you say the day does not matter? If my husband chose to celebrate my birthday on the birthday of his ex, I would be deeply hurt. Do you think that it's okay to celebrate Jesus' birthday on Halloween if we wanted? Of course not. God said that His children should not look at the pagan, idolatrous customs and copy them or worship Him according to how they worship their gods. (Deut. 12:30-31) Our God is set apart and we are also called to be set apart.
The exact day not withstanding, the very concept of celebrating Jesus' "birthday" AT ALL comes from the pagan culture from when they would celebrate the birth of their gods and later one, their kings etc. Since we KNOW for a fact that Jesus was NOT born on December 25th or even close, so then why are we celebrating it at that time of year? Anyone can google the answer, namely to bring together the early Christian church inline with it's pagan culture that was already quite attached to the celebrations (more than one, depending on where you lived) of that season. This IS a matter of historical record.
Now I personally do not think that there is ANYTHING wrong with celebrating the 1st coming of the Messiah, but we do not do it as a "birthday" and it is very important that we make that distinction. The God we worship, the God of the Bible, did NOT have a beginning, He was not born or created, He is Eternal. Jesus' coming was "the Word become Flesh" and the incarnation of the Eternal - NOT the birth of our God. So we SHOULD and DO celebrate it, but within the context in which Biblical and Historical scholars mostly agree he was born, October-ish, most likely during the Jewish Feast of Sukkot, the Feast of Tabernacles, which celebrates what John describes as Jesus "Dwelt (Tabernacled)" among us. It's even better than Christmas because it's a week long and also it is a prophetic holiday because it looks forward to His second coming when all of the world will celebrate this holiday going forward. Zechariah 14:16. We sing "O come O come Emmanuel", tell the story of Jesus' coming, and it's a beautiful holiday. In short, we HONOR God by setting apart His holy days and our worship of Him, especially by not lumping Him together with secular and pagan celebrations.

It is also interesting to note that the 50 year Jubilee is announced on the Day of Atonement on the tenth day of the seventh month before the Feast of Tabernacles (see Leviticus 25:9), corresponding to the same day that the Passover lamb is separated on the tenth day of the first month before the Feast of Unleavened Bread !
Abstaining from work and food on the Day of Atonement is the least we can do in appreciation of Christ's atoning sacrifice for us !
Every little pang of hunger should remind us of the horrendous ordeal Christ went through for us.
In fact if we don't show this appreciation for Christ's sacrifice, His Father says:
“For whatsoever soul it be that shall not be afflicted in that same day, he shall be cut off from among his people.
And whatsoever soul it be that doeth any work in that same day, the same soul will I destroy from among his people.” (Leviticus 23:29-30)
This connection between the Day of Atonement and the Passover was recognised at the time of Christ. They had a “custom” of releasing a prisoner at the Passover, in parallel with the instructions of the Day of Atonement in Leviticus 16: to choose two goats for an atoning sin offering.
One was sacrificed and the other was chased into the wilderness:
Pilate saith unto him,
What is truth?
And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them,
I find in him no fault at all.

Only by taking all the relevant Biblical quotes, into one compatible rationalisation, can we get to the truth !
Work Christ's gestation BACKWARDS from the Day of Atonement birth on the 28th September, and you get to the 6th January Epiphany conception; and 12 days further back you get to December 25th !
Working another 12 days FORWARDS from the Day of Atonement birth, you get to the Feast of Tabernacle's Last Great Day !
Strange that Christmas Day is 12 days BEFORE the Epiphany conception 265 day gestation and birth on the Day of Atonement, and then 12 days AFTER that is the Last Great Day - just like the "four and twenty elders" around the Throne of God in Revelations !

I think that the passage is taken out of some necessary context. The passage with its context is about carving idols. It's written later that they don't speak and don't walk. If the text was about Christmas trees, the part about that they don't speak and don't walk would be unnecessary because people usually don't expect that Christmas trees would speak or walk. The part makes sense if the carvings depict some humanoids or animals, which is how I imagine the idols, because humanoids and animals, especially those considered gods, are usually expected to speak or walk.

I went threw a struggle with celebrating Christmas and not celebrating Halloween. I felt that there was a difference, but I couldn't explain why. My sister mentioned has a Christian she looked at the spirit behind Christmas and the spirit behind Halloween. The Spirit of Christmas is love, joy, peace and a giving to others. The Spirit behind Halloween is mostly death, fear, and destruction.
Several years ago I felt convicted about celebrating Halloween but I didn’t know why. I saw a quote from Anton LaVey (satanic church founder) say that he wanted to thank Christian parents for letting their kids worship the devil one day of the year. My first though was NO WAY. So I stared looking into the origins and rituals and it was all bad, dark side stuff and nothing remotely godly in it. LaVey was actually right! So, though my family doesn’t agree and threaten to take my son out trick or treating, I choose not to participate.

I've been on the side of everything christmas is pagan but ... nobody is worshiping a tree in christianity. We have made christmas a tradition. I've never told my kids Santa was real. Granted there's worse things to lie about, but I always try to instill the importance of honesty to them, and a lie is a lie and a sin, no matter how small or seemingly innocent it is. Rather, I tell them Santa is just a fictional, yet fun symbol of Christmas, with the reason for celebrating it is for Jesus.
Thank you for this video, I had been agonizing over celebrating Christmas this year and up until just this month had chosen not to, for many reason, but the idea that it was a pagan converted holiday and that God told us NOT to worship him as the pagans worship being the predominant one, aside from the fact that we actually know very little of how the first Christmas came to be, my reason for changing my mind was three fold:
- though the celebration itself is not in the bible, the event we are celebrating IS. It is not necessarily the birth that we celebrate but the announcement that he was HERE, from the angels to the Shepard and the recognition of the star by the wise men. We celebrate it because Jesus coming to us in the flesh IS something to celebrate! Christians who celebrate Christmas ARE celebrating it for this reason, its NOT like they sneak into the back room to worship another God on Christmas, the day is a day in remembrance to Christ!
- a big reason I was led to believe we should NOT celebrate it is that it is not a holiday given to us by God, like the old Testament feasts which each had a special meaning and that God told us what to celebrate in the old Testament and celebrating anything else was somehow breaking a commandment. Then I realized that in the old Testament the Israelites and later the Jews DID celebrate other events as well, for example, in the first century the Jews were celebrating the dedication (Hanukkah) and Jesus actually went TO the celebration just like he did the other feasts. Now, in the first century this holiday was NOT in Scripture, God didn't command it, and yet the Jews celebrated it and Jesus, according to our New Testament, attended and had nothing to say about it in the way of "not celebrating other holidays". The Jews were celebrating the re-dedication of the temple and the miracles that happened during it, a significant religous event in their history! If Jesus was ok with them celebrating THAT event I can't see how he would NOT be ok with us celebrating the event of his first coming to accomplish his great work on earth! Now that I've put this together I actually find that it could be seen as insulting to Christ for us to turn our back to celebrating Christmas, celebrating his first coming!
- once I did my OWN research, instead of just taking people's word for it, on the holiday I came to the conclusion that many of the supposed "facts" about parts of Christmas being pagan traditions, or even the entire thing being a converted pagan holiday, were NOT actually grounded in ANYTHING BUT speculation, we DON'T have any of this supported by actual historic evidence or documentation. And the parts that I believe may ACTUALLY come from pagan traditions are very easily cut out of our celebration. For example, We have removed Santa from our Christmas as well as anything else I can't find historical support for as being started by Christians or having ACTUAL pagan roots, and really Santa is the only thing I can really point to that is specifically something I believe Jesus might frown upon. We are celebrating this year with special attention to keep Christmas Christ-centered and i do believe that is how HE would want us to do it.

I beg to differ what you mentioned about Hanukkah (feast of Dedication). Yes it’s true that Jews have extra holidays that are not mentioned in the Bible. But the only difference between them and celebrations like Easter, Christmas and Halloween is that they’re NOT founded on a pagan foundation. Purim and Hanukkah are about Jewish victories, they are not pagan in origin. Christmas on the hand, has plenty of pagan traditions that are still used today.
Yeshua was a practicing Jew, he would not have celebrated Saturnalia (another inspiration for Christmas).
In Colossians 2:8 it states to beware of “traditions of men” or “human tradition”, meaning we mustn’t be distracted or practice the traditions of what other nations do. It would be no better than me saying that if I decide to celebrate Hindu holidays and keep Yeshua as the center, it won’t matter the traditions even if they’re really meant for others gods.
Look at the story of the Israelites. They are an example of us, who we are today as Messiah believers. They wanted to celebrate something, so they decided, NOT to worship others gods but create an image of God almighty in the form of a calf (this is based on context study but it gives a different perspective). Was it pleasing to God that that they were worshipping Him in the form of a calf? No.
In like manner, celebrating Christmas is like the golden calf. Personally, I find the Jewish feasts all having a link to Yeshua. I find nothing about him in these western holidays. Zero. I believe he is acting j line with his beliefs, but that he won't look deeper because it is uncomfortable. The FACTS are simple. There is no expectation or command to celebrate the birth of our Messiah. It is a FACT that decorating trees with lights is a Pagen ritual. He says "give us the documentation" all spotty like, but cannot give any documentation of the celebration of the birth of Christ with trees, wreaths, stockings, presents. They remind us all of what YHWH did for us in the OT and how much has been fulfilled in the NT. That is not the truth, we are commanded to keep them- they are the Lord's feast. The holidays that most people keep are pagan- no matter what this guy is saying - he needs to study a little more. We stopped celebrating halloween, I watched your video on that a while ago...it's just not for us, so we hand out tracts and with candy to witness to those who come to our home. What has given me a lot of pause as I examine our lives and why we do things is Joshua 24 (amongst many other verses)....while I find freedom in Romans 14, I also don't want to mix so much that I muddy the waters for generations to come...maybe this could be a teaching sometime...I'd love to hear your thoughts :)

True but also he was not born on 25th. Look at when his uncle was serving in the temple and you then can see where this puts him. Conceived on hunnukah as the light of the world and born around Sukkot (feast of tabernacles) sukkot means Dwelt or tabernacle. Word became flesh and dwelt. Maybe that’s why their was no room for them to stay being that many people traveled for The feast of tabernacles.

The reason there was no room for them to stay was because it was the time of the census - everybody had to travel to his home town to be counted.
There's nothing wrong with celebrating Christmas on the 25th of December, even if Jesus was born during Sukkot. Bottom line is we don't know when Jesus was born, and traditionally we celebrate on Dec. 25th, and it would be difficult to move the celebration now, even if we could 100% prove that Jesus was born on a different day, so we might as well continue to celebrate in December.

If these things bother you, then by all means don't participate in this way- God will honor that. Hebrews 12:29- I agree that our God is a consuming fire, but how does that relate to decorating a tree (for ornamental reasons, not for worship) in celebrating Christ's birth?

Jeremiah 10:34- This is why context is so important: this passage is not referring to Christmas trees, because at this time there was no such thing as Christmas! As someone who grew up NOT celebrating Christmas as a Christian, I am having to re-evaluate everything. I do not yet know where I truly stand and would rather stand back and get it right before celebrating it. So, I have this question for you, Mike, and anyone else: As the Golden Calf was a physical representation of God (yes big G God as it is in the original Hebrew) and created for what one could assume was a good reason (to have a symbol to represent God now that Moses was assumedly dead) wouldn't the symbolism of Christmas be a modern version of that? Let us keep in mind that the first letter of the Hebrew alphabet is Aleph whish was a pictogram of bull/calf and gold represented purity. I do not disagree with you, Mike, but I am just being careful and thoughtful. Do you have any thoughts on this.

My thought is that the (main, at least) problem was, specifically, with the worship of the bull. I certainly wouldn’t recommend worshipping a Christmas tree. And there is a difference between being symbolic of God in that it is something that will make you think of Him versus symbolic in that it is meant to represent God Himself. But that’s just my not-very-educated thought.

Dear Mike Winger, I've stopped celebrating Christmas in every shape 40 years ago. I was distressed to see my sisters as they grew up (and later as they has children) start to have Christmas trees.
I learned many years ago about how the Lord's feasts (Including Hanukkah and the Festival of Purim) are much better! However, you have pretty much given Christmas and all an explanation! While I don't think I'll "celebrate" Christmas, I now see that there's not anything wrong with it! (Of course, truly keep Christ in it!). Thanks so much for such a clear explanation!

For me personally, anything the the Catholic Church has created in their doctrines is scary. I refuse to lie to my children and make them think that the Messiah was born in a month called December. Of course we all utilize a Roman calendar and in my eyes, that’s an attempt to change dates and times. Do I think we are not forgiven for that? Of course not. None of us can do this without the atonement of our messiah and I believe one day we will all be set straight. I just don’t think we should put down people that refuse to keep Roman made holidays. Some of us have been convicted by the Holy Spirit in different ways and just feel more comfortable not following the Catholics holidays.

Jesus corrected Martha for the very attitude that you are imposing on others. Jesus is worthy of our expensive oils... He is worthy of the decoration and pageantry. It is IRRELEVENT that our secular culture doesn't celebrate Christmas to celebrate CHRIST, and it's IRRELEVENT that long dead pagans used some of the current pageantry that is seen or used Dec. 25th to celebrate whatever... I don't celebrate what they celebrate, and a Nativity Scene that others use doesn't celebrate what long dead pagans did EITHER. The Apostle Paul very specifically speaks about your legalistic attitude, and CONDEMNS it. Jesus REDEEMS. He redeemed the cross, baptism, and our souls.... so, looks like redeeming a day, or symbols ain't but a thing. What he is perhaps saying is if you put a religious or spiritual stamp on a holy day, then keep it spiritual and meaningful, rather than allow secularism and people who like to stir up strife to take the religious holiday and own it with worldliness and bickering. Many people just want to fight, both saved and unsaved. The tongue is commonly used to be evil, and is a hard to control member...it takes discipline that only comes from The Father. But many have rebellious natures, and not for Christ-centered initiatives. Christ came to set the captives free and draw us to His Good Father. It is just as wrong to shun "Jewish" (aka Biblical) holy days (weekly sabbath and high sabbaths) and place the modern Catholic/Protestant holy days (Christmas) over them, as it is wrong to be harsh and so ready to emotionally stone or otherwise attack those Christians who have been persuaded to forget the Bible holy days and only embrace what we normally only see (Easter and Christmas). There have been some possible tainting of any and all of the holy days, whether Christian or Hebrew. Find those little pagan pieces and be aware but if they aren't harming anything and the day is still being kept for it's holy meaning and remembrance, than press on. Don't be a hater. The Lord didn't make us brothers and sisters to fight and be pissy.

I’m a new subscriber. Thank you for your research and presentation. Besides believing these Christian bashers, I find fellow Christians propagating these ideas. Thank you!! I have only recently heard all these things about Christmas even though I've been a Christian for decades. I've been having some distress because I have so many happy memories around Christmas and so much about it makes me feel good, but I do not want to do something that is displeasing to God. Your explanations make sense and they are along the lines of what I already thought made sense. But I've come across these Christians that are so passionate about how evil it is. This helps a lot.
Christine, I have fond memories of Christmas myself. I think its good to notice the feel good parts of Christmas and ask ourselves are we truly engaging in paganism or actually worshipping Jesus Christ. If we are worshipping God in Spirit and Truth then we should be honest about the origins of the Christmas Tradition and I believe be willing to shed off things that don't truly fit a holy worshipping of Jesus Christ. I don't think that means you cannot have joy or celebration, but I think it means we should take a true objective look at what we are doing, and why?
Yes, I have. I truly enjoy celebrating the birth of Christ. And I enjoy the general overall good feeling to the season. And it does give me more freedom to speak of Christ than at any other holiday. I agree with Mike, I am willing to chuck any holiday that truly dishonors Christ. I enjoy Christmas because it is a worshipping of God in truth and spirit for me and it's nice that it's an opportunity to celebrate Christ's initial coming through His earthly birth.
Check out Nimrods myth. It is a dead winger I mean ringer for christmas. He was dead but came alive in a evergreen tree and they put gifts to worship him on the Dec 25th. I hope you heard of Jeremiah 10 and part of Isaiah 44 that talks about crafted idols from trees.

Secondary sources are usually fabrications. Academics find no Primary Sources for all these claims of pagan deities born on Dec 25th - they are all secondary source fabrications long after Christianity started.
The whole time i was thinking "How can you seem so sound in other matters and rebuke people for all sorts of things but defend christmas?" But then I remember that even the "Prince of Preachers" had an idol/tradition he wasn't willing to give up for the sake of his flock: smoking cigars and you sir, just told us yours! Thanks for your deep research and fair presentation. My key concern is the mainstream Christians celebrate a day not mentioned in the bible but ignore the observation of the feasts of the Lord in the Bible.
I think because these feasts were specific to the Jews and their culture and celebration and worship of yahweh. We are not Jews and we're never commanded to uphold the laws and practices of the Jews.
Finally I have the Joy of The Lord back in my heart after the enemy lied to me through a fellow believer about Weinachten (Christmas). My Mom is German, I grew up with the story of Martin Luther and what the symbolism of the tree and lights are. We never had any santa clause ever, and I have the most wonderful memories of Weinachten, how it all is about Jesus! A celebration to Thank our Lord Jesus Christ for His birth, life, ministry, death and resurrection, ultimately saving us from our sins. Thank you again and God bless you abundantly!

And FYI I live in South Africa, born here also. So no connection to Winter Solstice or anything! If there's a swimming pool nearby, I love to swim on Christmas day. And another thing, we don't celebrate Christmas on the 25th, but on the night of 24th, Weinachten! Weinachten means Holy Night. So what's your issue with me when I want to sing praises to my Lord Jesus Christ and read Scripture and tell each other that Jesus gave us the biggest gift, His life! What exactly is your problem here? When we have a gathering, a service of believers who happens to be family to celebrate JESUS, what is YOUR PROBLEM?!!!

What really honors Christ is when you put your life at risk for His Name. When you help the poor. When you live a holy life. When you are not ashamed to proclaim His name in public places. When you are NOT afraid to tell the truth even if that costs your freedom, your financial status, your reputation, and your life. When all your intentions are pointed towards His Kingdom with all sincerity and passion acting, not only "wanting".
The fact that there is no Christmas without the green tree or Santa, makes me wonder how much is this about Jesus. I mean, how many times do you see children really speak about Jesus on Christmas? None, because Jesus is only an excuse.
Jesus is impressed by sincere faith that acts, not by a global once-a-year fancy celebration...
You're free to do it, but try it without the tree and without the ornaments and celebrate Jesus' birth in your heart. Will this work? If this will not work then you're not celebrating Jesus at all.

While it's actually about Easter, do you know that infamous "Ishtar=Easter" meme? I bet they know it too. Aside from the fact that virtually every line in that meme is factually wrong, when one looks closely at these myths, you can see stuff like Ishtar planting "trees of knowledge", favoring a shepherd over a farmer, her tears causing a flood because she was remorseful about the violence on Earth, etc. Does this all sound familiar? Thank you, Mike Winger! Wonderful lesson you gave. I appreciate this so much. Christmas and Easter are my favorite holidays. The smells, the lights, the flowers, the music, the feeling of joy. It wasn’t until I graduated college and my husband and I started going to a church in the town we moved to that I met folks who got upset because I like Christmas. I never knew such people existed before. I started meeting others of that mindset. I started feeling guilty for enjoying Christmas. Your lesson is breath of fresh air.

We are not to conform to this world's practises and Christmas (and here in Finland we call it Joulu = Yule) has too much pagan practices that I personally do not want to celebrate it the way the people of the world do.
I personally don't have Christmas trees or any decorations. I can have a meal with bretheren, but I wouldn't be giving gifths this day. Too much materialism and focus on decorations and drunkardness and cluttony on this holiday, which is the spirit of yule.. I choose not to partake in it. If you must give presents at some point, why not to give presents after the new year or something when the sales start... everything is more cheaper then! :D
I can celebrate Jesus on any day and will keep doing it (without any extra decorations) and can have a nice meal and the communion. I can truly say it is feels good to not celebrate Christmas/Yule, cause you have so much time for more important things like spending time with the family, not having to decorate (then after to clean it all up), run from store to store to buy stuff and spend awful amount of money.. and then stress to make food so much that people eat that same food for the next 2 weeks straight... Just not worth it. I don't see the focus on Jesus. Other things take the focus. That is my oppinion.

Romans 14 sums it up for me. Also it's good to remember In essentials unity, in non-essentials liberty, in all things charity.
Romans 12:2 = Do not conform to the pattern of this world
2 Corinthians 6:14-17 = Be separate; especially from idols and Satan
Jeremiah 10:2 = Do not learn the ways of the gentiles
1 John 2:15-17 = Do not love the things in the world
Matthew 6:7 = Often in the bible Christians are explicitly contrasted with pagans
Matthew 15:9 = Human rules make your worship in vain
Deuteronomy 12:4 = We are explicitly told not to worship God in a way the pagans do
Jeremiah 10:2 = Do not learn the ways of the nations
Isaiah 29:13 = Your worship should not be based on human things
Exodus 20:2-6 = God DOES care exactly HOW we worship him
Colossians 2:8 = Human Tradition is named as something to be wary of
@@WarmPotato God made the gentiles holy. You go straight to the old testament which is before Christ's sacrifice and then apply that to today. After Jesus's death and resurrection he then went to the gentiles.

@@WarmPotato Romans 14:5-6 (NKJV) One person esteems one day above another; another esteems every day alike. Let each be fully convinced in his own mind. He who observes the day, observes it to the Lord; and he who does not observe the day, to the Lord he does not observe it.
In other words, whatever you do, do it unto the lord. If you want to celebrate Christmas, great! Just do it unto the Lord. If you don't want to celebrate Christmas, that's great too.
But as Romans 14: 12-13 also tells us:
So then each of us shall give account of himself to God. Therefore let us not judge one another anymore, but rather resolve this, not to put a stumbling block or a cause to fall in our brother’s way.
The northern winter solstice is either on the 21st or 22nd December - Christmas Day is three days later !
On the Dead Sea Scroll's Biblical calendar, the Day of Atonement on our 28th September, is the most solemn, most holy day of the Biblical calendar - undoubtedly the day on which Jesus Christ, Yahshua our Messiah, was born !
Despite His birth, Joseph and Mary would have kept the Day of Atonement accordingly, and may even have wondered about the importance of the circumstances. Little did they all suspect then as they looked down on the manger, that that Child of God - the picture of innocence, pure as the driven snow, white as wool - would thirty three years later afflict their souls with His brutal, bloody Passover crucifixion:
Born to die for our crimson sins !
Is that why this is such a Solemn Day ?
We can eat but we cannot cook/work on the weekly Sabbath.
Why is the Day of Atonement a High Day Sabbath but is also without any cooking like the weekly Sabbath ?
It is because we have to fast on this day and so afflict our souls (see Leviticus 23:23-32).
Why ?
The second half of the year almost mirrors the first half of the year.
It is interesting to note that the 28th September Day of Atonement on the tenth day of the seventh Biblical month before the Feast of Tabernacles, corresponds to the same day that the Passover lamb is separated on the 30th March and the tenth day of the first Biblical month before the Feast of Unleavened Bread !
That is why we must afflict our souls by fasting on the Day of Atonement:
It is now actually in recognition of the atoning sacrifice that Christ determined to give us when “six days before the Passover” He arrived in Bethany on the 9th Abib (see John 12:1-15). There “where Lazarus was” Christ had supper after sunset starting the 10th Abib.
On a lowly donkey the next day, still the 10th Abib, thousands with palm fronds hailed Christ as “Hosanna” of Israel [Greek hoshia-na, of Hebrew nâ‛ yâsha‛, naw yaw-shah′ = Oh save ( savior )].
“Yahshua” finally entered Jerusalem, walked into the Temple and looked all around, before leaving at sunset (“eventide/even” between two successive days).
i.e. Hailed by thousands at Jerusalem, the Passover Sacrificial Lamb had gladly separated and presented Himself in the Temple:
on the 10th day of Abib ! (see Mark 11:1-11, Exodus 12:3-11)
Christ’s body was hurriedly laid in the tomb at eventide/even/sunset - four days later !
It is also interesting to note that the 50 year Jubilee is announced on the Day of Atonement on the tenth day of the seventh month before the Feast of Tabernacles (see Leviticus 25:9), corresponding to the same day that the Passover lamb is separated on the tenth day of the first month before the Feast of Unleavened Bread !
Abstaining from work and food on the Day of Atonement is the least we can do in appreciation of Christ's atoning sacrifice for us !
Every little pang of hunger should remind us of the horrendous ordeal Christ went through for us.
In fact if we don't show this appreciation for Christ's sacrifice, His Father says:
“For whatsoever soul it be that shall not be afflicted in that same day, he shall be cut off from among his people.
And whatsoever soul it be that doeth any work in that same day, the same soul will I destroy from among his people.” (Leviticus 23:29-30)
This connection between the Day of Atonement and the Passover was recognised at the time of Christ. They had a “custom” of releasing a prisoner at the Passover, in parallel with the instructions of the Day of Atonement in Leviticus 16: to choose two goats for an atoning sin offering.
One was sacrificed and the other was chased into the wilderness:
Pilate saith unto him,
What is truth?
And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them,
I find in him no fault at all.
( Pilate spoke the truth ! )
But ye have a custom, that I should release unto you one at the passover:
will ye therefore that I release unto you
the King of the Jews?
(John 18: 37-39)
Only by taking all the relevant Biblical quotes, into one compatible rationalisation, can we get to the truth !
Work Christ's gestation BACKWARDS from the Day of Atonement birth on the 28th September, and you get to the 6th January Epiphany conception; and 12 days further back you get to December 25th !
Working another 12 days FORWARDS from the Day of Atonement birth, you get to the Feast of Tabernacle's Last Great Day !
Strange that Christmas Day is 12 days BEFORE the Epiphany conception 265 day gestation and birth on the Day of Atonement, and then 12 days AFTER that is the Last Great Day - just like the "four and twenty elders" around the Throne of God in Revelations !
Are these the "Twelve Days of Christmas"🎶 around Christ in the womb ?
25th December was also never a part of the Roman festival of Saturnalia.

John the Baptist's gestation was also 265 days and he was born on the 10th Abib - the same day the Lamb of God came down the Mount of Olives on a donkey proclaimed in Greek as "Oh Saviour" ("Hosannah"), with the way being prepared for him with palm fronds - on the birthday of John the Baptist who prepared the way for Him, and the same day the Passover lamb is selected.
i.e the 25th of December started Mary's follicular phase and Christ was conceived on the 13th day Epiphany on the 6th of January and then born on the Day of Atonement on the 28th September !

Don't let pagans steal and demonise our Christmas Biblical "day of gladness" without an in depth investigation first. I also made that same mistake on this journey,
I believed it to be pagan. But, the verse saying you make the day. For the lord or not your choice. Poked holes in every argument that convinced me. Cause that means, you could literally take any pagan holiday, and make it a righteous holiday, by simply making the lord the center piece. Solid. Thanks man.
What? So as long as you say I love Jesus any other holiday is ok? Even if it goes against the Bible?
So what would you say about the Israelites that God wiped out because they began to worship the golden calf believing to be worshipping YHWH? You can’t take any pagan holiday and turn it into your own personal way to worship God, he commanded us not to worship like the pagan nations do, it’s not about how you feel, it’s about what God has asked
@@crazyalarmstudios2012 the moral of the story is that the Israelites worshipped God in their own way whatever they saw fit, and it made God burn with rage, which is effectively what we do when we take part in Christmas which is rooted in paganism, however you want to spin it, God does not want you to worship him in the ways that you feel are fine, he wants you to worship him in the ways he has commanded in his word
@@crazyalarmstudios2012 the passage about the golden calf makes no mention of orgies for a start, what it says is that Israel made for themselves an idol, presented offerings and bowed down to it and said these are your gods Israel, who brought you out of Egypt. They worshipped God in their own way believing their idols and ways of worship to be correct but instead incurred the wrath of God. Just because Christmas doesn’t go to the extremes of orgies doesn’t mean it isn’t wrong. You can’t worship God in whatever way you like.

Destroy completely all the places where the nations you are dispossessing have served their gods-atop the high mountains, on the hills, and under every green tree. Tear down their altars, smash their sacred pillars, burn up their Asherah poles, cut down the idols of their gods, and wipe out their names from every place. You shall not worship the LORD your God in this way.
Deuteronomy 4:29-32
When the LORD your God cuts off before you the nations you are entering to dispossess, and you drive them out and live in their land, be careful not to be ensnared by their ways after they have been destroyed before you. Do not inquire about their gods, asking, “How do these nations serve their gods? I will do likewise.”
You must not worship the LORD your God in this way, because they practice for their gods every abomination which the LORD hates. They even burn their sons and daughters in the fire as sacrifices to their gods.
See that you do everything I command you; do not add to it or subtract from it.
