I had a welding business for 7 years -- I disagree about finding a "niche". I would do just about any type of welding. I would say in order of frequency from most to least would be the following: architectural, food service, trailer repair, general maintenance, and lawn care equipment.

One good place I found my first few jobs was for the local fire department and EMS. They are always tearing up and modifying service vehicles.

heck yeah man. a lot of these younger guys on here can definitely learn a thing or two from this video. I'm currently in a slow time right now but a lot of what you said has been how I started. I built like 35 flights of stairs with an old Hobart stickmate running off a portable generator. I too am also a mobile guy and everyone that calls me with all sorts of machining work I send to the welding shop down the road. they sometimes give me customers that want mobile work done.

Hey man thanks for all the advice. I’ve been looking at starting a mobile welding business and at first I was hell bent on putting myself into a whole with buying either a miller or Lincoln but after watching 3 of your vids, I’ve decided to put myself on an absolute must stick to CASH budget challenge.

I’m trying to start my own mobile welding service. I’m 17 year old welding with my own welding machine. It’s not the biggest but it gets the job done. It’s a Miller Multimatic 215. I do have access to a Lincoln Electric Ranger, but have no way of transporting it as I’m srill building a trailer for it. Finding work is hard I think that it’s me being young and people being skeptical about someone so young providing services like this. I am making a business card not with a company name, but with my name, information and skills I have and where to find work I’ve already done. I’ve built trailers, done some repairs and uses a plasma cutting table to cut out whatever people want. I’m not looking to make a fortune right now I’m looking for experience and then the money.

I'm interested in these websites you spoke of. It kind of sounded like a version of U-SHIP for welding. I'm looking to get some side work going to get my name out there. I'm coming from the gas industry into food grade Stainless TIG and loving it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm a welder who has brain damage with a couple disabilities and I've been thinking about getting into a mobile welding business of my own. Not sure what would be best for my abilities I've developed up to this point, especially since I do have disabilities that makes some things more difficult for me compared to others

Austin : Great video with good encouragement for beginners. I found your video's from reading Austin Ross's comments. I had to leave your video after a while because I was getting dizzy from the thing swinging on your mirror. I would sure move it to the seat for your future videos. It's very distracting to what you have to say.
