The dream is over, what can I say The dream is over, yesterday We were the fab ones, but now it is gone I was the gentle one, but now I must be strong And so dear friends we'll just have to carry on The dream is over The dream is over, no matter what they say The dream is over, it has to be this way We played in springtime, but now I play in fall We hit the bigtime, but now we are small And our dear friend let's hope he has it all, still The dream is over
Brian pours his heart and soul into this beautiful song. I get chills every time I listen to this. Brian has a VERY BEAUTIFUL voice! And when I listen to this I think of the meaning of the lyrics from Brian's point of view especially after losing Freddie (basically his brother) and John leaving the band to. I just take it all in.
You have misunderstood the point. Brian May changed the lyrics to symbolize what he felt at the time. And it hurts so much to hear the words. My heart sink everytime. "I don't believe in being Queen anymore..." It's just so incredibly sad, given what had happened with Freddie's passing. I'm glad Brian and Roger are back out on the road to bring Queen's music to those who never got a chance last time around. Freddie's spirit lives on.
One of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.... And good Lord, what an amazing vocal by Bri!!! I'm so happy that he managed to get through all the sad things and dissapointments and that Queen is still alive! God save the Queen. God save Brian.
Losing genius, the dreams ........ well....... it takes real balls to reckon with it. Hurtful, painful ... hell... that doesn't even come close... Brian could have chosen a thousand songs....he chose one that impacted him personally and deeply...and he performed it to my own heartbreak...and I don't break easily......my heart and thanks go to Brian...thank you
Just heartbreaking. A beautiful song in its original incarnation, but to a Queen fan, this version just means so much more and touches so much deeper. I never fail to cry at his rendition. Thank you SO much for posting this.
If this doesn’t give u a lump in your throat nothing will , saw him play this at the Apollo in Manchester in 1993 , it did then at the age of 23 , now I’m 50 and have to admit it still does now
I was at this show! I'm pretty sure it was at The Palace in New Haven, CT. That's why Brian is wearing a Yale shirt. This was a great show in a small venue. Brian did Love Of My Life too and did a great job with it. It was the 1st time I heard him sing it. I think this is from 1993. He did a lot of QUEEN songs and used a lot of great into's & outro's. I met Brian a night later in Rhode Island and he recalled in great detail playing in my hometown of Waterbury, CT back in 74. Thanks for post!
this is "the Brian May Band" Brian May-Lead Vocals&lead guitar Cozy Powell-drums Neil Murray-bass Jamie mosses-Rythmm Guitar(and now plays with "Queen+Paul Rodgers) Spike Edney-Keyboard(played with queen live in the 1986 tour, now plays with "Queen+Paul Rodgers)
Wow. This gave me chills when the back up singers chimed in. Even though he took liberties with the lyrics its still one of the best covers I heard.....yeah I gotta fave this one.
The dream is over, what can I say The dream is over, yesterday We were the fab ones, but now it is gone I was the gentle one, but now I must be strong And so dear friends we'll just have to carry on The dream is over The dream is over, no matter what they say The dream is over, it has to be this way We played in springtime, but now I play in fall We hit the bigtime, but now we are small And our dear friend let's hope he has it all, still The dream is over I don't believe in magic I don't believe in pain I don't believe in heroes I don't believe in fame I don't believe the newsprint I don't believe we're free I don't believe in nations I don't believe in pride I don't believe in pressure I don't believe we're right I don't believe in torture I don't believe in fight I don't believe in colour I don't believe in white I don't believe in history I don't believe in being Queen any more 😪 I just believe in me Just you guys and me And that's reality Yes the dream is over Dream on
You don't have to like Brian May, you don't have to like Queen. You don't even have to say WHY, but it would be appreciated. You should just respect them because what they did is outstanding.
Beautifully played. He treats this song with so much respect, and at a certain point, the audience finally GOT IT, and stfu and listened. I would very much enjoy hearing the lyrics he sang; they were changed during the, "...I don't belive in..." sequence--obviously, because he replaced, "Beatles" with "Queen". I know at one point he said, "pressure" and I can only assume that he was talking about the increased famdom that followed Queen after the release of Under Pressure. Idk...thx for vid.
I think Lennon was referring to something much bigger than the breakup of the Beatles in his line "I don't believe in Beatles". He was telling people to stop worshiping others - gods or musicians or whomever. He wanted the listener to turn inward. God is you. I am god.
@askhatman There was lots more to it than that. He was forced to metamorphose, become something more than he thought at the time. Queen was good for Brian but it also cast a shadow on his tiny light, now he has to stand alone. Freddie told B: his career was just beginning. It was an inititation time, he had to break with his former self. He didn't expect Freddie to ever be defeated, but it's not the real Freddie that gets defeated, only the image of his superhumanity. He's much more special...
yes, Brians PHD is in Astrophysics, and he seems to spend all his time either recording with other artists, or writing books these days! The New Queen album (With Paul Rogers), should be released in 2008, and touring will follow (Allegedly!)
@drowser598 I was at the concert in New Haven that night and the following night in Providence as well. Two nights I'll never forget... I took sent him a few of my photos I had taken in Providence and it took a year but I did get a response from him. Unique shots and I guess he liked them. I wish more people had attended both concerts. Fan club screwed him over big time!! They didn't tell club members the itinerary until the tour was over and done.
As far as I know, this recording is from the same where "Live at the Brixton Academy" was recorded, but was kept out of the record because of copyright reasons
The thing is, they sent the recording to Yoko Ono, and it's not that she didn't give her permission for the song to be used - she just didn't get back to them. They had no choice but to release the album without it. For shame, it would've been glorious!
Cool clip here. I love it when one of my heroes sings another hero's song. Does anyone know the date of this clip and a transcription of the lyrics (of THIS version)?
You have a good point in that... but looking back and searching at that time..there was alot happening...John always wanted to be the one to announce the breakup and he was pissed when Paul made that.. so it is both aims he made in the song. anyway my point is still May should not compare it to Queen, specially he made his best in years to come to continue with the "dream" ,even brought Paul Rogers ... whatever any queen fan opinion of that, May did not believe that "Queen dream is over!!"
I can not believe some of what I am reading here. In John's version it was about him and Yoko, a good bye message to Paul and (the dream is over, yesterday ...being Paul.) the Beatles fans. Secondly, believe in yourself - simply put. Brian May's version is basically the same in his own words. He "related" with what John said. Keep on playin those mind games people. Sheesh.
I believe he has spoken that no longer believes in being Queen. Because Freddie had died and at that time he did not think about going back to the Queen again. It lacked a bit of interpretation on what he meant just that!
I remember Brian playing this on tour in 1993 and thinking to myself that it was a statement song. He seemed to be saying, "Queen fans, sorry, but Queen is finished. I'm moving on." Of course, he completely changed course on that sentiment by touring and making an album under the name Queen + Paul Rodgers. Keep dreaming, Brian, because Queen REALLY IS OVER!
The dream is over, what can I say
The dream is over, yesterday
We were the fab ones, but now it is gone
I was the gentle one, but now I must be strong
And so dear friends we'll just have to carry on
The dream is over
The dream is over, no matter what they say
The dream is over, it has to be this way
We played in springtime, but now I play in fall
We hit the bigtime, but now we are small
And our dear friend let's hope he has it all, still
The dream is over
The man is far more than a rock star, he is a hero. Just far too humble to wear the cape.
Damn. Sometimes I think Brian May's main goal in life is to rip my guts out and break my heart.
"i don't beleive in being Queen anymore..."
makes me cry every f*ckin' time.
plus his voice is so great on this song, it can only touch you.
Wow, amazing cover. May really personalized such a defining Lennon song.
You have misunderstood the point. Brian May changed the lyrics to symbolize what he felt at the time. And it hurts so much to hear the words. My heart sink everytime.
"I don't believe in being Queen anymore..."
It's just so incredibly sad, given what had happened with Freddie's passing.
I'm glad Brian and Roger are back out on the road to bring Queen's music to those who never got a chance last time around.
Freddie's spirit lives on.
it's easy to forget just how powerful Brians voice was. This was an excellent performance.
One of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.... And good Lord, what an amazing vocal by Bri!!!
I'm so happy that he managed to get through all the sad things and dissapointments and that Queen is still alive!
God save the Queen. God save Brian.
He's a true rock star! He has the looks, the talent and the voice and the guitar playing prowess. He's amazing!
Love Brian's voice soooo much...goosebumbs😍♥️♥️♥️♥️😍♥️♥️♥️♥️such a wonderful, emotional song♥️♥️👍😍
Losing genius, the dreams ........ well....... it takes real balls to reckon with it. Hurtful, painful ... hell... that doesn't even come close... Brian could have chosen a thousand songs....he chose one that impacted him personally and deeply...and he performed it to my own heartbreak...and I don't break easily......my heart and thanks go to Brian...thank you
Ugh, that's heartbreaking. I've never watched it all the way through before. It's beautiful, an amazing performance, but heartbreaking.
i love brian's voice. he added some great lyrics to this.
This is another reason why I need a time machine for Christmas
Just heartbreaking.
A beautiful song in its original incarnation, but to a Queen fan, this version just means so much more and touches so much deeper. I never fail to cry at his rendition.
Thank you SO much for posting this.
what a wonderful song! Love Brian may, love Queen!

I like this melancholic voice
God is a concept by which we measure our pain.
....well done Brian.....

I had known about Brian May's cover of "God" for a few years but never listened to it until now.
the best Lennon song, IMO :)
Lennon !!!
Of course he subtracts my favorite line in the song...
God is a concept by which we measure our pain...
I don't believe in being Queen any more
I just believe in me
Just you guys and me
And that's reality
Yes the dream is over
Dream on
Pero... por qué me pone los pelos de punta este hombre... puf!!
This song is so beautiful.
i have this live from london 1993...
really nice :)
"We were the fab once, but now it's gone"
Wow. I never knew Brian May had such a nice voice.
Does Bri say at 4.53 he doesn't believe in queen, same as Lennon said he doesn't believe in Beatles
Yes he changed the lyric which is why it was not included on his live Brixton Academy album as Yoko Ono refused permission
Son of a bich
The dream is over, what can I say

Oh Brian
BRIAN ♥

ESPECTACULAR BRIAN MAY , JOHN LENNON QUE COMPOSICIÓN UN GENIO
Oh, if only a song could protect itself...
May and Lennon are my two favourite rock musician ever.
Two good choices!
Hopefully this will appear remastered on Brian's golden Series .....
Wow ... Brian may can sing!
wow brian can sing so good............he should sing more songs........its a perfect cover of a great song from lennon
thankyou for the run down. very cool.
Great song

nostalgia
I think Lennon was referring to something much bigger than the breakup of the Beatles in his line "I don't believe in Beatles". He was telling people to stop worshiping others - gods or musicians or whomever. He wanted the listener to turn inward. God is you. I am god.
Kristoffer Wright I'm with you brother, PEACE, Love and John Lennon ✌️

Right on great song
cool. i didnt know that. he sounds great. thankyou for the reply.
I caught a Cliff Richards gig during his heavy acid and speed period - kick ass night -a very underestimated artist.
I like it!
"If The Beatles were greater than Jesus, then what does that make Queen!"
Greater than God!
And Rock music is my favourite genre of music :D
Very moving.
nice. i didnt know brian may had such a good voice

What happened with the Fan club? Just wandering

Cool clip here. I love it when one of my heroes sings another hero's song.
Does anyone know the date of this clip and a transcription of the lyrics (of THIS version)?
no it's from one of brian may's(guitarist) solo act. he also has a solo career apart from queen.
Great song!
In 1975 John Lennon said: "If The Beatles were greater than Jesus, then what does that make Queen!"
Great version. By the way, is that Cozy Powell on drums right there, behind Brian?
Lucas Pagani Yup. You're right.
"No one but you" sounds a lot like the studio version of God
lennon... may
john is the original singer, but brian may adds more melancholic voice, great cover!
You have a good point in that...
but looking back and searching at that time..there was alot happening...John always wanted to be the one to announce the breakup and he was pissed when Paul made that..
so it is both aims he made in the song.

whatever any queen fan opinion of that, May did not believe that "Queen dream is over!!"
dame good brain dame good
He sounds like Roy Orbison!
Why does Roy Orbison sound so familiar? I’ve heard of him before who is he?
wish there was a better quality one or studio version
is this queen also playing with brian????? its a fantastic version of "god" he sounds just like lennon.
I can not believe some of what I am reading here. In John's version it was about him and Yoko, a good bye message to Paul and (the dream is over, yesterday ...being Paul.) the Beatles fans. @Gabuchilovemanga WRONG! jonh lennon is NOT jonh lennon! jonh lennon is John Lennon!
the piano part sounds like the piano music from the song he wrote for queen called "no one but you"
That's right, fellows.
Un homenaje a Mister John Lennon.
sorry i know songs from queen and the lead singer that died but i dont know who is in the band. my favorite song is"the show must go on"
Two songs by big J.Lennon !!!!
never seen brian stand with an accousting guitar before..
No comments !!!!!
Doesnt Brian have a PHD now in astrophysics. Very smart man. I do agree that he should have recorded more.
Notice how the lights dim before the Queen reference.
...only Brian May could get away with this.
I believe he has spoken that no longer believes in being Queen. Because Freddie had died and at that time he did not think about going back to the Queen again. It lacked a bit of interpretation on what he meant just that!
thiandromeda
He just changed band names for appropriateness.
@MrNodzilla Are you talking about Brians 12 string? I seriously doubt it's a cheap guitar.
Can I find the video or mp3 of this version on the internet? Without people screaming, of course.
he said "I dont believe in being Queen anymore"
.. without Freddie theres no Queen anymore
The lighting makes him look like he's about to be abducted by space aliens.
@Tambourineman324
Forever!
what year is this?
בריאן❤❤😂
when is this?
@esotericeric93 His mother's? ;o) (You meant "Who's [who is] the drummer?", right?
I remember Brian playing this on tour in 1993 and thinking to myself that it was a statement song. He seemed to be saying, "Queen fans, sorry, but Queen is finished. I'm moving on."
Of course, he completely changed course on that sentiment by touring and making an album under the name Queen + Paul Rodgers.

What's the brotherhood of YALE??
i don't know...
