    Nice video and thank you! You say these are sweet, but I'm seeing/reading mixed reviews on this cultivar. Some say that these aren't great for either flavor or productivity. Wish I could find one to try before ordering even MORE seeds. 😛We'll see, but I'm inclined to stick w/ Brad's Atomic Grape. for my cherry variety. Nice garden!

      Hey there! Thanks so much. I've been seeing the mixed reviews as well. Overall, I'd say you're better off trying a different variety. Brad's Atomic Grape is definitely a better choice in my opinion. When the Black Strawberry were super ripe, then they had a nice sweetness. Anything less ripe they were tough and not very sweet. Also, not crazy productive. Fun to try but there's better cherry varieties out there for sure. Thanks for watching!!

      @@inchwormgardens This is interesting! We live in NM and grew Black Strawberry from Baker Creek last year. Here, they were SUPER prolific....like crazy prolific, but I have to agree the flavour didn't knock our socks off. They were good, and the yummiest of all the tomatoes we grew last year but not quite mindblowing. We will still grow it because it's just gorgeous, but we are trying some new ones this year too.

      Yeah! I'd say they're worth trying. They weren't super impressive at first on the flavor but I might have been picking them too soon. They get really dark red when fully ripe. You can see my surprise in this video at how sweet it was!

      Yes! You always learn something. Even in the “failures”. I wasn’t super impressed with flavor at first either. I think the one I tried in this video was suuuuper ripe and it was the best tasting one I had. I was genuinely surprised by how sweet it was! But ya, I probably won’t grow this one again next year since my space is limited and I like making room for new varieties. Thanks for watching!

      The anticipation! I’ve been seeing some mixed reviews on the flavor. I think the super ripe ones have the best flavor. They turn a real dark almost burgundy red. If you don’t love the flavor at first try letting it ripen a little longer. Hope you enjoy it!

    Sart Roloise is my only new purchased tomato this year, but I'm waiting to see if two others end up being successful hybrids I tried last year with Wild Galapagos as the "mother." If I didn't get it right, I'll just have regular Galapagos tomato plants 😁

      @inchwormgardens  Před 7 měsíci

      Hey there! I'll try to do some more videos on that this season. I can tell you that I will be starting my peppers indoors mid February. I got a late start on them last year. They are a good crop to start early since it takes a long time for them to start getting "too big" indoors. I've made that mistake with tomatoes and started them too early and they were huge and it was still freezing outside!

  • @TracyKonoske
    @TracyKonoske Před rokem +2

    Mine are red but not deep red so maybe still need to let them ripen more. Also not impressed w the flavor - at this point - and wont grow again. They are GOOD producers. I got behind in my pruning and my plants are HUGE and there are a lot of them! Not sure they'll can. Maybe dehydrate and/or freeze dry. Kind of a thick skin so maybe blanch and see if the skins come off and if i can do something with the guts - like a salsa or something.

      Hello! Those are great ideas. I've been hearing mostly negative feedback on this variety and I agree, it's not the best. It has some redeeming qualities but probably not worth growing again. There's just too many other great tomatoes to try!

    • @inchwormgardens
      @inchwormgardens  Před rokem

      Hello! The best way to tell when they're ripe is to give them a little squeeze. They should be nice and soft and come off the vine easily. I had this same issue growing green tomatoes! It's hard to know when they're ripe. You'll learn to recognize how they look. The color will be come slightly more red mixed with the black. Hope that helps!

      I agree with you, I didn't really love the taste either. I found when they were super ripe they did have a much sweeter taste (like the one I tried in this video). But there are much better tasting varieties so I probably won't grow this again next year. I have pretty limited space so I have to pick and choose! What is one of your favorite heirloom varieties? I'm looking for suggestions for next year :)

    You are not tasting the true tomato taste when you add salt!

    • @inchwormgardens
      @inchwormgardens  Před 2 lety +2

      I respectfully disagree. Salt intensifies the natural flavors that are already present in the tomato. But I get what you're saying; It's not the true, right off the plant tomato taste.
