A film detailing in four programs the life and ministry of Count Zinzendorf who set aside a life of wealth, politics and privilege to follow God's call.
Once in a while someone comes along who has a profound effect on the course of future history. Count Zinzendorf was one of those remarkable people. Born into nobility in 1700, he put aside a life of wealth, politics and privilege to follow God's call. He established a refugee settlement for persecuted Christians. This remarkable community experienced a powerful outpouring of the Holy Spirit which led them to a passionate concern for worldwide missions. Under Zinzendorf's leadership they set the stage for the modern missionary movement as we know it today. The four programs: (1) Prophet of the Heart - Follows the young Count during his early years and when he first allowed religious refugees from neighboring Moravia and Bohemia to settle on his lands, leading up to the Moravian Renewal of 1727. (2) Count Without Borders - Profiles their pioneering mission movement that sent missionaries to lands as far apart as Greenland and South Africa. These were the missionaries that would inspire later leaders such as William Carey. (3) New Heart, New World - The controversial Count turns his attention to the American colonies, and especially to the native Americans. The Count himself visits America with much fanfare in 1742 and attempts to organize an ecumenical movement. (4) The Pilgrim Comes Home - Controversy erupts in Germany, and Zinzendorf's movement experiences a period of self-correction. theologians, historians, and modern Moravians from around the world reflect on the impact of Zinzendorf's life and thought.

VERY Important , informative and eye opening !
This is a totally enthralling account of the life and times of Count Zinzendorf which I fully enjoyed. It is so sad that when I turned to read more about the Count from the book 70 Great Christians by Geoffrey Hanks, I found no mention of him or his influence on the church. By all account it seems to me that Zinzendorf was far ahead of his times, especially in area of the mission field and evangelism. But the church today is still enmeshed in issues that the Moravians seem to have overcome in their time to some degree at least. Would that the Church today would come into a unity and closeness with the Holy Spirit that they seemed to have in the Counts’ time.
This reminds me of our Lord's words " the last shall be first and the first shall be last. " in the kingdom of heaven. I think the greatest in God's kingdom save the Lord himself, will be someone who no one knows their name in this life. The count sought no credit, for he did it all for his love for Our Lord Jesus and for others.
Sad, but the situation persisting with churches today is that their focus is on the offering plate and not offending their congregation.

Excellent life. No room for pride in anyone in the generations during 1900's and since. Shows what a person can do through Christ without technology or distractions. Though Zinzendorf's wife suffered in their personal life, she will no doubt reap his same reward from Jesus as she had stood by him and fulfilled her work as his mate.

Given a movement that began with simplicity, humility, and piety, why is it that so far every Moravian speaker in this video bears the title, "Reverend"? The definition of the word is from the Latin reverendus ‘a person to be revered’. Whether sought or merely accepted, it is still an obscene title for a follower of one who could have proclaimed himself everywhere he went "Son of God" but instead referred to himself as "son of man".
I saw Archangel Michael and two other angels standin behind the preacher in the German-tongue's Easter's service at the Concordia Kirche in Washinton DC about 1981. This caused me to realized that some similar angel/s had been present in the Westmoreland Congregational Church, Bethesda, MD when I was pre-adolescent; as the feelin was recognizable and unlike other experiences in church-houses, wherein no angel was perceptibly there.
This is the kind of history schools should be teaching without a doubt, wish we could convince the schools of this because who else could teach us better than the Holy Spirit Himself. I have never understood why churches do not routinely have church open for constant prayer. I used to yearn for that 20 years. Now that desire has been rekindled.
It sad but many people now are used by Satan to be to be destructive. And the Churches had to be locked. Sad to say even pastors are influenced by him, sometimes unaware, that they are being used by him (devils) . We need better teaching that WE FOLLOW not the baby food many churches have been dishing out. Pray for maturity in the pastors and the Body of Christ as a whole. Remember you can pray to the Lord anywhere you are.

I don't think that any Christian truly could hate him even if they were Catholic and uphold the ancient faith. To be a Christian, it requires that we love one another as Christ has loved us.
When people say they hate a person, it means they don't care about what happens to them and would rather evil befall them. That sort of thinking can easily lead to Hell. It is a Mortal sin against the 5th Commandment.
Many great humans are sort of lost in the background of history. But they were pivotal to change the world. Now you probably heard of John Wesley, who began the Methodist movement? He was deeply influenced by Count Zinzendorf & for a while worked with him, but then branched off his own way.
And the missionaries, who came, got their head start from him. He or his members went to the Inuits, to Africa, North & South America, India, many other places, before any other missionaries. He especially targeted those who no one loved or respected - like slaves & the poorest of the poor. This man was Christ reincarnated.
Before they attempted to 'convert' people they learned their language, no matter how obscure, & created printing presses in that tongue where they could present the Scriptures in their language, to better instruct them. Many of the missionaries died in their quest, like from tropical diseases, they got arrested, they endured great hardships.

Interesting story
This documentary was truly inspirational! It left me wishing that I had been raised in a Moravian Church. As it is, I have begun to suspect that love, compassion, empathy, and especially redemption, do not truly exist in the real world. There seems to be only ambition, greed, treachery, (and lechery and philandery), at least in the part of the world that I can see. It seems to me that the institutional church has outlived its usefulness to the Kingdom of God. From this documentary, I see that this might not be entirely true. Someone, please talk to me about this!
As the bible states since sin entered the world through Adam we have been living in a fallen world full of sin and corruption. The institutional church is very much like the kingdom of Israel in the Old Testament where it has gone through periods of greatness and periods of great apostasy. When there’s a period of apostasy there’s always found that there’s a faithful remnant.
Yes Del, I agree. Seeing how these Christians in the 1700 truly lived out the Bible was so touching to me. So many items just in Scripture to me, they actually lived out practically. I watched this documentary because I heard of count Zinzindorf from the writings of Watchan Nee and Witness Lee. They also seek this blessing of oneness and usefulness and genuine living Christianity. Watchman Nee is another amazing brother who's story touched me. And I try to find as many missionary Biographies as I can to see the pattern.

Fascinating
What I appreciate most about him is he did not partake of discrimination against women, they were given close to equal rights with men, they were leaders, like Bishops, of the Church. This is BIG. And he also renamed the Holy Spirit 'God the MOTHER' which is also big. I grieve that after his death this was REMOVED from his Church. He also extended Christ's love to the most 'untouchable' of people around the world - the poor, the slaves, the dark skinned, the de-valued people - He saw clearly that we are all EQUAL in the eyes of God. I also feel good about THE emotional - warm, passionate segment that rose up in his community for a while, which unfortunately for me, was squelched. Why not allow for differences of experience? Surely some can be one way while others less 'charismatic' & emotional? Overall indeed he was the FATHER OF THE MISSIONS.

What's there doctrine though, it's important to just to pray, they said Christ is with everyone sometime in their life, that's simply not Biblical. I think they were criticized because doctrinally they had real problems. It isn't just piety that's important but praying aright according to right truths. Not just what is God saying to me as Peter says no scripture is of any private interpretation. It seems the Puritans had the right balance of sound doctrine with piety. You can make many mistakes if piety is without sound teaching. It's not all about your devotional life. Your doctrine must be correct. Very vital, as we will give an account regardless of how many follow you.
The overarching message that I got is that we, as individuals, need to strengthen our personal relationship with Christ, the Son of God. He will lead us in our walk toward Truth, and in so doing, will strengthen our inner wisdom of Him. While Church Doctrine (whichever Christian sect) can provide that early structure, we need to allow God, through our walk in Jesus Christ, to be our ultimate Guide..... beyond Doctrine, beyond piety, to beyond our own mortal understandings. And we can do this in community with others.

Excellent account, but this is no children’s cartoon, so why are contributions in languages other than English dubbed over? Why not subtitle, especially for very short accounts given? Some of us do have a knowledge of other languages and would prefer to evaluate for ourselves what speaker has to say.

I heard his name and a little child's story a long time back but I never heard his entire biography as a documentary like this. It is interesting concerning the hymn about the blood of Christ written in this documentary though. @1:11:03 How accurate does our theology have to be concerning the Trinity in order to be saved? The concept of the HS being feminine is generally a theological abomination in most denominations. Is it OK to attempt to oversimplify our theological beliefs in order to assimilate those that are ignorant our theology? What if any is the extent of the potential soteriological danger of doing so? What is the potential for the loss of rewards or inheritances for those that believe & join a movement? What is the BOTTOM LINE for salvation? For advancement and rewards & reaching of spiritual maturity? Christianity has the poorest definition of both the dangers of bad theology & the advancement of the believer through ranks & the bottom line securing of honors & favors & eternal rewards that will distinguish one believer from another in time and eternity. There never seems to be any definite grounds or formulas for any guarantee of anything. Even the very bottom line of salvation itself is too fuzzy & often mixed with the performance of the believer whether rear loaded or front loaded with requirements of works and relative or subjective moral standards. A front loaded gospel is loaded with pre salvation good works psychological works, pre regeneration intentionality or outward religious ceremony such as water baptism with or without added the name of the father son HS or Jesus Christ etc formulary. A rear loaded gospel will look on an extreme failure such as heresy or blasphemy or immoral or criminal involvement as an indicator that somehow that person was never saved to begin with. A front loaded gospel is loaded with fuzzy pre requirements that the person seeking salvation failed to achieve when they believed. I was taught that WHAT I BELIEVED "the faith that does not regard works" is infinitely more important than how I live or the fruits of salvation in initially securing a grace alone based salvation in which works become irrelevant. I was also taught that works and advancement in spiritual maturity are extremely relevant to securing rewards and honors beyond simply getting saved & generally difficult to achieve. Yet if the bottom line salvation requirement to secure a salvation without regard to works is too often presented by careless evangelists and pastors as somewhat fuzzy & subjective, living a life to secure any commendation beyond salvation is far fuzzier & more subjective still. There are no mid terms pop quizzes or exams that God stamps an official personal grade on this side of eternity. The whole Christian experience too often is a surprise waiting to be revealed when we draw our last breath in which the most devoted & fruitful in works may still end up in hell Matt 7:21 and some of the most criminal immoral treacherous or evil & fruitless may still end up in Heaven such as the thief on the cross, King David toward Uriah, Manasseh, etc. You further examine the testimonials of those who went through near death or long resuscitation out of body experiences & too often people who believed they were headed for Heaven were not & somehow barely escaped often leaving them just WHERE in this life? If all they did & perhaps even believed or presumed left them unregenerate according to their experience of near death & resuscitation WHERE THEN DID GOD let them off? A second chance under some sort of new probation? If they were not saved in the first place then where do the stand now? Or are they now fully justified without regard to the works fruits attitudes or production of their future? Search high and wide for answers to these questions and you really never get any satisfactory absolute answers you can fully rely on. If the answer is not the idea that one m ust be willing to be saved without regarding their works then WHAT ELSE IS THERE? Salvation by works that proceed from justification is all that is left. If salvation is by works that proceed from regeneration then how many what kind how long it all becomes subjective & relative. You never know if the works are dead works or profitable works. I appreciate the blood & wounds theology which do not regard works. @1:18:18 As for hymnology this explains many of the blood & wounds related songs in our present day hymnals. I suppose I never related the spear wound in the side of Jesus to the hiding of Moses in the cleft of the rock while God passed by so Moses could see the afterglow. I never put those two together. I also never suspected that Count Zinzendorf's son Christian was so responsible for these blood and wound related hymns that we all sing today without ever asking about the history or the theology behind them. As for the excesses in the order of little fools movement, this certainly could not have been any worse than the problems Paul had with the Corinthian church. We do sing too many hymns that either contain vows and promises that are made to God without thinking about or following them through or keeping them that we are not certain that God requires us to make or keep or singing songs we have no clue to their history or the theology behind them. In too many Churches we sing all kinds of stuff in our hymnbook just because everyone else is doing so. Who knows if all we sing is either orthodox or the promises we make contained in them are the will of God for our lives. Much of our failures to keep up with the items we sing in our hymnals are indeed not well thought through.

Perhaps you are over-thinking all these vast questions. They are unanswerable in this life. Trust Jesus and the Holy Spirit to eventually tell you what is important and focus on that in obedience to Jesus's words.
Focus on His Word - the Bible.
He is central.
