Before communism fell in Eastern Europe, Christians were often arrested and kept in prisons or labor camps where the Communists went to great lengths to break their faith. This is the story of a family whose faith endured.
Born in Romania, Richard and Sabina Wurmbrand became Christians after they were married. They soon began sharing the Gospel, even though it was prohibited. In 1945, Richard stood up publicly and proclaimed Christ while speaking out against communism. This bold move, as well as his work in the underground church, led to the Wurmbrands’ imprisonment by the Communist government. Richard and Sabina endured unthinkable horror at the hands of the Communists, but their faith and witness was only strengthened, even through multiple imprisonments. Widescreen.
After being ransomed out of Romania, the Wurmbrands dedicated themselves to helping the world understand the horrors that were occurring behind the iron curtain. They began a ministry now known as “The Voice of the Martyrs,” to bring awareness to the persecution of Christians. Their legacy lives on through the work they began and the many lives they touched. - Zábava
My husband and I met the Wurmbrandts in California back in 1987 and were so impressed by their love, humbleness and sacrifices. We invited them to bring their story to Pacific Christian College (now Hope International University) and Fuller Seminary where we were studying. We are missionaries in Thailand and Myanmar and I have a Jewish background too. They prayed for us and blessed our ministry and God has truly blessed it! I read all their books and share about their faith and love even to their torturers here in Thailand and Muanmar. We in the West need to be strong in our faith and dedicated like them! We have become so soft and weak having never suffered persecution. Now is the time to stand up for Jesus everywhere as never before! I felt so honoured to have met my true Christian heroes like them!

I too met the Wurmbrands at Stockton-On-Tees Baptist Tabernacle . His wife just held my hand prayerfully and gave me their book 📚 Free. A wonderful couple .

I was reading an amazing book so declined an invite to go and see a Christian speaker in Liverpool. My friend persisted. I went. We arrived at the hall in the nick of time. Due to the crowd, I was escorted to sit on the edge of the stage. Next thing, the host said, In Jesus' name, let us welcome Mr Richard Wurmbrand.
Holiness, power and humility exuded from him. I was only 6 feet away from him. I have never recovered from the impact. I got home, stunned. It took me days to pick up my book...Tortured for Christ.

I met them many years ago at "The Bible Speaks" Pastor Carl Steven's in Lenox Massachusetts. Mr. Wumbrandt then because of imprisonment could not stand but certainly their Testimony although she did not speak stood tall!! I will never forget them!!

Thank you for sharing this story. This is inspiring beyond words. May Jesus be glorified through this. May we not ever forget to pray for the martyrs. Everyone living in a free country needs to see this, especially now. It seems we are losing much of our freedom in the US and other countries. I'm praying that things don't go this far, by God's grace and mercy. Whatever happens, may we fully cling to Jesus for our very lives.

@@Yesica1993 My apologies for disturbing you. My intention is to remind people that don’t remember the seventh day sabbath. They will soon present sun day rest by Force of law as the “solution “ for all the world’s problems. So I’m thinking some will want to be aware of the whole story. All Christians have been deceived by the sun day observance tradition of ancient pagan rome. And Revelation 18:4 KJV. I guess I’m praying for people to at least give it some study and prayer. One of our bedtime stories books we have for the kids has a story about a Romanian Pastor whose ticks on his illegal typewriter alerted a neighbor above who called the police. He was arrested and sent to prison. The captain asked the pastor if he prayed before eating. When the pastor said yes, the captain taunted him by pointing out how fat and happy he was and how pathetically undernourished the pastor was by comparison. The pastor replied that God could feed him if He chose to, to which the guard replied that no one would give the pastor any food for 5 days and they’d see how well God feeds His people. He then put him in a cell. After the pastor prayed that evening that the guard would see how well God takes care of His people, he heard a meow. A cat was there with a piece of Romanian black bread in its mouth. The bread satiated the pastor. The same thing happened for the next several days and at the 5th day, the captain came to ridicule what he thought would be starving prisoner. When the pastor said he felt fine, the captain demanded to know who was feeding him and that he’d throw him in prison as well. The pastor said that a cat had been bringing him food. The cat then walked in with more bread and the captain exclaimed, “That’s my cat! And that’s my bread!” God had been using the captain’s own cat to feed the pastor with bread from the captain’s own table.

I am so humbled by watching this incredible story. The testimony lives on and we that have never known this kind of testing have to prepare ourselves for the hour of persecution that is coming soon. When I see testimonies like this I feel encouraged but also sad because most of what we now regard as Christianity is just our own dreams and desires enveloped in our self deception of 'God's love'. The average professor of Christianity can't even speak against lawlessness for fear of being branded hateful.

My entire family met the Wurmbrand's in California in the 80's and my brothers were part of VOM for a while. Sadly the organization Wurmbrand started V.O.M. is no longer what is used to be. But I remember their radiant love (humanly impossible w/out the Holy Spirit). Their testimony is absolutely incredible! Glory to Jesus!
Yes. I do wish that they would edit the video to remove one person from it who fell away into terrible sin. Not that the Lord Jesus doesn't love & forgive, and I am sure Richard & Sabina would do so, but it is better if the video would be edited, even though the person is forgiven.

I had the previledge to read his books when I was young and than about 1974 or 5 dont remmember I saw this pastor in an Assembly of God church in South Africa he ardly could walk because his feet was so sore for the beaten he endured in prison, he was a lovely man that teansmit to you Love and Peace blessed be all of you and family and the ones he gain to Christ. What beautiful souls they are.
I first heard about these Christian heroes decades ago and am still impressed by such heroes. I'm inspired by their bravery. I pray that if its GOD'S will for me to undergo such horrors for JESUS CHRIST that I won't fail my LORD AND SAVIOR!

Do you know what confessional Lutheran‘s believe about sacraments, etc. (e.g. baptismal regeneration, corporal body and blood of Christ, private confession and holy absolution, rejects the false teachings of “always saved always saved”…). Father Wurmbrand had a very high view of the Theotokas.
So basically Father Wurmbrand taught the things that are going make Baptist squirm (e.g. baptismal regeneration, private confession & holy absolution, perpetual virginity of Mary, etc.) he was a Lutheran like Bonhoeffer. When Father Wurmbrand celebrated the Mass, he had vestments on, a crucifix, followed the historic liturgy. Are you going to level the same or similar charges against Father Wurmbrand as you do Catholics? I doubt it.

This is such a powerful testimony. I remember getting hold of the book Totured For Christ. I only Went as far as a few pages bec, as a young Christian, I could not bear & accept the toture Wurmbrand Went thru. Im glad & so blessed & to watch this beautiful documentary of this couple this time. Glory to God!
In this day and age of disorientation while the government tries to destroy all who have Christian beliefs this documentary gives me great hope. I have not suffered like these people have but I pray that when the time comes I will be ready and willing to the spirit of God and not faint in my Faith in Christ Jesus who suffered so much for me.
