As a trim carpenter, when laying out an accent wall (ship lap) measure of center and split the difference. So your end pieces end up being the the same width. Keep up the good work! Your makin good content!
Same with tile. Although having seen a bunch of Alex’s tiling videos he doesn’t do the center out method there either.

I really wish you would read your comments dude what you tested for asbestos were not these floor tiles once again I’m just warning you those floor tiles are 110% asbestos. I do this for a living.

@@saulgoodman2018 well I agree I’ve cleaned a ton up with a mask but still it just kills me how he was so worried and got everything tested except for the actual asbestos tiles🙄😂

It's one thing to work with asbestos tile for a living, it's another to do a small room in one's own house.
You should install one of those fancy dryer vent intakes that are built into the wall so the flex pipe doesnt get smashed.
A drain under the washing machine is essential to protect your home from flooding if a hose bursts. Would have been a quick add.
Literally was thinking the whole video... ADD A DRAIN! Would have been so easy to attach to the already existing pipe for the washer outtake. *shrugs*
90 degree angle adapter at the big box store is like $10 for drilling in tight places
No closet bi fold doors. I would’ve just put doors in front of the washer and dryer and made it like a cabinet. With that amazing self decor it would’ve looked amazing. Enclosed washer/dyer at the bottom beautiful shelves and decor above.
agreed, the bi fold doors ruined the build for sure, would look a lot better open viewing
Doors do reduce the noise, but nicer doors would have been better looking not just functional.
you should've made that shelf above the washer/dryer removable for repairs or if somone chooses top load.
I know it’s easy for me to say this because I’m not doing the work. However, if it were me and had the floor pulled up I would have added a drain in the floor just in case there are any washer issues. That way it drains into the floor instead of out and down the hallway.
He's got a team of craftsmen behind the scenes who go in behind him and do things the right way. He does very little himself because he doesn't understand any of it.

as a former laundry repair technician Maytag man guy whatever you want to call it. that shelf on top of the washing machine in the dryer of course to is the most annoying thing in the world to get at to fix it when it breaks.
it is not if it breaks, it's when it will break.
in order to access anything on the machines they would need to be pulled out and usually both of them to get to the other one.
these machines are designed to be in a basement on a concrete floor so I hope you're under flooring whatever you call it is solid.
also, redo venting, first reason that dryers "don't dry clothes"
replace all vending with metallic ridged venting.
seeing what you have done my only advice would be to make sure that countertop is easily removable when you need to have someone service the machines.
otherwise once you're one year warranty is up you will pay by the minute for however long it takes to access the washer in the dryer just because you wanted to have a countertop on top of them for no reason except being pretty.
it's really a question whats good for the homeowner who uses the space every day vs. the ease of access for repairs. Obviously it's a pain, but im just sayin

Yeah, that countertop shelf, is asking for trouble. No access.
I actually thought about that top getting in the way as well. Now that I'm thinking about it I think a fold down countertop would be good here. It preserves functionality as well as allowing access for repairs.
It is for this exact reason that when I enclosed my washer and dryer (they're in the kitchen and my wife wanted more counter space) I put an access hatch on the side of the enclosure to access the ventilation flume and the gas line. The water can be accessed from above through a hole in the counter top hidden inside an attached breadbox. Only time the machines will need to be moved is when they eventually fully break down and need to be replaced.
I hope that washer and dryer fits 😮

Looks great, but I really dislike having to be forced to buy/use front loaders because of a counter top.
It also makes removing/trying to fix the machines a huge pain in the ass.

I find this video format EXTREMELY helpful and personally inspiring to try to start some of these similar projects I'm wanting to get done, but I have one mental hurdle to get over: I don't know what products/hardware/lumber/dimensions you are using at each point. I think adding a little text block list with "X drywall mud" or "3/4in plywood", even providing alternatives (also potential for sponsorship products 👀) , as you do each task would be super helpful. Obviously everyone's projects are different, but a simple disclaimer would cover it.

LOL I was yelling at the screen when you installed the lower shelf. I'm like "DUDE!!!! LEAVE YOURSELF ROOM FOR HOOKING UP THE WASHER/DRYER! THey are a complete pain in the ass to hook up in the little closets like that.

Great stuff and while the lower shelf looks great...it's going to be ripped out in minutes when they go to try and hook the gear up. I could almost hear all the repair folks across the land yelling out at you..."NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" 🙂

most tape measures have their length measured on them already to get rid of having to bend it

If you have an impact drill there are right angle adapters like the DeWalt Maxfit or the Milwaukee Shockwave. Great for drilling or fastening in tight spaces or corners.
i cut laminate on the table saw all the time at work yes it is very sketchy but... you get used to it also i use spray on contact cement to stick it to the wood

I hope I dont worry you with this but that flooring might be asbestos you ripped up! 😬 a ton of 9x9” floor tiles are usually asbestos from that time frame. Just looked like it so I thought I’d tell ya to avoid it in the future man! Love all the projects, gives me a ton of ideas for my own stuff 💪🏻

Perfect video for a project I have been planning out. I was struggling with my doors as well, so it was great to see this option showcased. LED lights are a nice touch. One thing I would have added in a switch to make it simple to turn them on and off. Great build out!
I've heard of using roofing shingles to level an uneven section of floor.
That's what the flooring installers did at my sister's house in Georgia. Glad to see someone else has heard of it.

Read the comments man. So what did you do for the moisture control? Worried if there is not exhaust fan, it might get too humid. Kills moisture wicking paint would have been ideal
Yeah, nice project but that counter top / folding table really limits the home owner to only front load washing machines... also, if you ever need to turn off the water or clean out the dryer line, you're an incline plane wrapped helically around an axis....
I would not put floating shelves in the laundry area. It will always be messy with detergents, bleach, softener and any other stuff one might use for their laundry.

Thinking into the future you say. If you knew you were going to use LED channels and lighting, you should have DADO'd the underside of the floating shelves to recess the channel trim, and predrilled your holes, on top of already preinstalling the low voltage wiring behind the shiplap. Speaking of shiplap and thinking into the future, if you knew you were going to paint it, you should have sanded the surface down or at least scuffed it to let the paint better adhere, otherwise you're always going to have it come off in chunks when you hit it just right. Otherwise, everything else looks great.
Home Depot has Nickel Gap Shiplap Panel, which has a similar look to real shiplap but is way cheaper and easier to install. Maybe you could cut the cost down a bit by using that instead?

Having gut remodeled a 1960s house myself, I really hope you tested those tiles for asbestos. I was 5 (of out 6) tiled rooms in my house came back positive for the stuff.
I've been wondering this myself. Typically 9" tiles are ACM. Very least the mastic is usually ACM.

Those doors would drive me bananas if I had to walk through the hallway as someone was doing laundry. I would have just left it open with that tight space.
Surely it would be easier just replacing the sheeting. I hate plastering so I’d rather tape one joint and corners rather than all those little pieces

Looks like that will become the new avocado color everything of the 1970s. But, to each their own. Whatever works for you. That not withstanding, great job as always.
The doors idea is nice. I think I would have done it with pocket doors, however. It could be done by building that whole wall out a few inches to make the pocket, then choose whatever doors you want. They would disappear completely that way. Could also make just one door that slides off to one side only. Personally, since my tastes go more towards the decorative side, I would have made them from something like Chinese style folding screen. You can often find them done on wood (as opposed to silk or paper) at a reasonable price as antiques. Since they are in sections, they can also be made into bi-fold doors as you have done.

Another measuring trick, your measurer is a round number (should be written on it with a ruler on the side), usually 3 inches. Stick on the wall and measure to the other side :)
Im curious do you have enough Clarence to put stuff on the top shelf with that header being there, might have to move the top shelf down to get stuff up there

That looks fantastic. For those maple shelves, could you not have cut hte edges at 45 degrees then you wouldn't have needed had the exposed edges? Or am I missing something?

Looks like there 1 at the bottom.
For the shiplap (im sure thats spelled wrong) rather than picking a coner find the center point and match it with the center of one piece and work out from there to either side. That way it's even on both ends and looks uniform.
Also, from the looks of it the amount of gap that would've been on either side could have been easily covered by a quarter round like youd use in cabinets
Here’s a tip, if you look at your tape measure it has a small info circle on it that reads (+3.625) or so. The tape measure company has accounted for thickness of the housing. Just be good at converting fractions

The led lights- I cut mine at the joint and used some sodderless clamps and wire and ran it behind the drywall instead of doing the drilling you did.

I dont know if this will get seen, but im in the process of planning to make our powered shed into a living space, I havent really done too much but I know I need to get the subfloors changed. Is it better to use screws or just bust out the nail gun to get the subfloor in?
Looks good, I'm just surprised you didn't put in an easy access to be able to shut off the water in case of emergency

Make yourself a laminate board. It will help keep the laminate from sliding under the fence. and cold laminate is very brittle.
There's a small tool called laminate cutter. You just score the laminate with this cutter, and snap, just like you would cut glass.
No red guard in the hardie backer? Or some sort of waterproofing?

If you didn’t know you can cut Formica with just a knife blade. You can score it like drywall and it’ll snap on that line. Great job with the space though.

I think it turned out nice. Personally I don't get everyone's love of shiplap right now to me its just painted 70s wood paneling but not my house. I really like the barn bifold doors thou that is really cool.
I hate front load washers, forcing someone to use one will limit things. That lower shelf will get torn out in a few years as a bigger headache than it is worth.

On the back of the tape measure it will tell you how long the housing is. Just measure with the back side against the wall and add the housing measurement.

The shingles might have actually been to level the floor. It’s a common technique in flooring. At least where I’m from.
I've been doing the "measuring trick" for years because I always got my measurements wrong. I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one being smart😂
Couple pieces of criticism and my own opinon that I personally am not a fan of. The mixing of color tempeture on the lights. Stick with warm or cool and not both. The second... I hate hate front loader washers and this laundry setup you now only can use front loaders. Looks great but front loaders are terrible. They get moldy and gross real quick and hard to clean and start to smell. To deep clean them you have to essentially take them apart. So I personally would love to see people design around top loaders. Which nobody does... because top loaders take so much space.
On the doors. I removed bi-folding doors in my place because once they are open you can't pass and even they take a ton a space up. So you have to close them. I use panel curtains that stack but even that is not an elgant solution. With how nice it looks I don't think you even need doors which would make that space feel more open.
What's wrong with front loads?
Just keep the door opened a little to air it out, from becoming moldy.

I like the idea of the bifold doors, but it seems like it may make it difficult to get past with a laundry basket. I believe bypass barn doors (two doors) would solve this.
Pocket doors would have been the correct choice here.
Either Blum revego or Salice Exedra and then proper cabinetry surrounds.

If I were an appliance service man I'd have you horse whipped. That non removable shelf is going to get your name cursed someday, especially in that tight a space. I built our laundry with a similar top but when my wife removes the huge amount of cloths I can pick it up and tilt it a little bit and carry it out and the cabinet on the side is on rollers so it comes out also to make room

Does the furnace not work in the house? Isn't that something to fix right away so you always have heat to help with drying mud, paint, etc? Just wondering the thought process there.
If you watch the whole video he explains half way that the gas finally got turned on for heat.
