  • What an amazing day digging crystals at this very exclusive private mine site. During this day the entire group pulled about 1/2 million dollars worth of quartz crystals. The biggest and best crystal I found during the day was valued, by the professionals, at over $35,000. And I was told this clear quartz crystal was going to be cut into a facetted gemstone and displayed in a museum. What an amazing day with amazing people. What an honor.
Huge thanks to @The Crystal Collector for inviting me out for this trip and @Avant Mining for hosting us at their amazing facility and mine sites.

So a lot of people are asking who determines the value of these crystals. I sure is not my guess. Avant Mining has a professional curator on site as well the mine owner is a world class collector with decades of experience in mining and selling these specimens. Between the two of them they can very accurately determine the value of the crystals. "who buys them" people with a LOT more money than me. The mine owner was telling me about some of the richest people in the world visiting his facility and buying crystals. Waltons, Royalty, celebrities......

Some people were confused by him saying he had to buy the crystal, so a bit of clarification based on what Dan said in chat during the premier!
Dan said that they could get some smaller crystals, and buy the big boys at a steep discount! So it sounds like they more or less get a percent of what they found and they could either take it in small crystals, or put their share towards taking a big boy home with them! Might not be exactly what's going on, but Dan probably isn't going to lay out the exact details of the deal.
Considering the owners of the mines could just have people doing it for 30$/hr who keep nothing compared to the treasure hunters this seems super generous. The treasure youtubers do this at his mine, get amazing content, get free gems, and get first pick of some top tier gems? Sounds like a once in a life time deal.
Dan straight up said they were very well taken care of in chat, so sounds like Dan was super happy with the cut him and his fellow youtubers got, so don't worry about it too much!

I was only 11 years old when my father had taken me to this big quarry in the middle of the hills. All we had was a bag, screw driver hammer and a little garden spade. My old man and I had no idea what we were doing, He just said he had been up to the top of the hill one day and in the side it had lots of little crystals all through it. We just started digging in the middle of this big quarrys wet clay. We started pulling crystals two times the size of the the ones in your video. The crazy part is we had given them alway over the years to his friends OMG.

@@gmailtyger selenite outside Great Salt Plains, OK forms in a soft sand/red clay lake bed in a fairly shallow strata. It's not a high dollar crystal but getting them is easy. It's soft enough to dig in with your hands (careful, theyre sharp!) and will definitely get ya dirty. You can drive right on the lakebed so it's not a huge trek, the site is seasonal but free, and it's a nature preserve so if you dig a bit and decide youre tired of tiny but pretty selenite crystals shredding your fingies its fun bird watching.

While gold does associate with quartz, it is very rarely in 'bullish' or euhedral (crystals like you see in the vid) form. That is because those forms of quartz typically form at lower temperatures, after any gold has dropped out of solution. In 32 years of my geological career, I've seen gold in bull quartz once. It was great watching these amazing crystals coming out of the mine! I mined in Arkansas starting in the 80's and I tried to get there a couple of times lately but because of the pandemic and Arkansas not doing very well with the pandemic, I decided not to go. Also, just my personal feeling, but to me the crystals are so beautiful that I kind of wish that you could focus a bit less on their value. To me, it seems to detract from the specialness of the crystals.

Absolutely mind boggling. Also the amount of value in that hole alone is unimaginable. Every single thing they pull out is thousands of dollars and they don't stop coming out. They pulled out more money in one day than a lot of people make in a decade. Its endless. My brain cannot comprehend.

I feel like I trust the people who own a mine more than you random youtube commenter.
By the sound of it the value comes from clarity, size, special features inside of them, and even parentage. A crystal coming from a special mine being worth more than others isn't crazy at all, people love their brands. If they sell these gems to big wig artists who turn around and sell them to billionaires, then they're worth the amount they're selling them for.

My grandparents were friends with him, but his mine is amazing, we would swap sites because his quality is nuts!
We always only got a few to no take advantage of his kindness, He is an amazing person.
If he reads this ask if He remember Ruth and Ken with the grandson. She passed in 2012, but I still have most of my stones from Ruth.
I have a 900lbs "soul" white quarts and have about 4to 5 left from his big clears.
So many good memories, I hope Hennry remembers me and will let me work a day or something. I don't want a stone; it would just be nice to show respect for my grandparent.
I'm tearing up a bit, we prosected every summer for 2 weeks. The process the comradery how everyone is so happy, it is just pure joy.
