  • Kevin O'Sullivan says Falklands War 'Walter Mitty' former chief constable Nick Adderley, has committed a "heinous crime" and ripped the country off.
The publicity-hungry figure who was slapped down by politicians and ridiculed after threatening to search shopping baskets to enforce Covid rules, former chief constable Nick Adderley has offered his opinions about smart motorways, e-scooters and soft sentences for offenders.
Adderley, 57, who is now awaiting a Crown Prosecution Service decision on whether he will face criminal charges after he was found to have committed gross misconduct, also once claimed to have “built my own house” without contracting out any work.
He began his policing career, which ended abruptly on Friday because he wore a “110% fake” Falklands War medal and lied on his application to become chief constable for Northamptonshire Police in 2018, with Cheshire Police on February 17 1992, aged 25, remaining with the force for 18 years and reaching the rank of superintendent.

We should now start to investigate all senior police officers.

He became Chief of Police in Aug 2018, so it only took nearly 6 years to find him out. He has been suspended on full pay since October 2023.
The allegations came to light when doubt was cast over the Falklands War medal that Mr Adderley had worn on his uniform since 2009, despite only being 15 at the time of the conflict. But he was in the Sea Cadets when he was 15😂.
Adderley claimed he had been a "commander or a lieutenant", even though he only achieved the rank of able seaman.
The hearing was previously told Mr Adderley had lied on his CV and application form when applying for the job with the force by claiming he served in the Royal Navy for 10 years when he had served for only two - and had apparently included his service with the Sea Cadets from the age of 10 in his calculation.
He also said he had attended the prestigious Britannia Royal Naval College for four years, despite his application being rejected, and that he had been a military negotiator in Haiti, when he had never been to the country.
Adderley previously said the South Atlantic Medal (SAM) he had been pictured wearing since at least 2012 was given to him by his brother Richard when he emigrated to Australia in 2008.
The SAM was awarded to British military personnel and civilians for service in the Falklands conflict.
But the hearing was told the medal was deemed "110%" fake by a Ministry of Defence expert and the panel heard on Thursday Mr Adderley told a "pack of lies" about his brother's Falklands service.
Further John Beggs KC, representing the Office of the Northamptonshire Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner (OPFCC), said Richard Adderley (Nick's brother) did not embark for the Falklands until 2 July 1982, about three weeks AFTER hostilities ceased.
So Nick Adderley is a proper Walter. He will not lose his pension unless he is convicted. The CPS have his file.

3.25 Mike raises a valid point - 3 different Police Forces in Adderley`s career moves - will those forces be looking closely at his CV`s as provided to them at interview - will their vetting systems be found wanting??? Sad when it takes an ex wife with a conscience to bring this to the publics attention.

Questions need to be asked about how he got away with such blatant lies for so long - do the police not check these things - its not like he just added a GCSE or 2 to his CV. Perhaps a little look at the people who promoted him over the years would be interesting.

What a disgusting example of a human being. Who vetted this man’s application ? This kind of liar destroys what trust the public may still have in the police. What shambolic system fails to fact check every aspect of an application for chief Constable role, this isn’t some Teaching assistant failing to mention once having had a puff on a marijuana cigarette and being cautioned. I hope his pension has been withdrawn as it was earned under false pretences. It could be donated to the south Atlantic fund.

Unless he lied about his age, I find it hard to believe that those who appointed him could not work out his was too young to have served in the Falklands War. I assume they would be a similar age to Adderley. I was 16 yoa in 1982 so if I saw his DOB on his CV as 1967 then I would instantly know he was trying it on. Unless they did not know when the war took place. Either way it does not sound like they were fit to select a senior police officer.

For a man who has served a as a Police officer as long as he has, this whole story is very surprising. He has conducted himself in the past impeccably and commanded a lot of respect from front line police officers, mainly due to his handling of the fiona bone and nicola hughes incident.
Its a shame someone who will doubtless have seen his own trials and horrors during his police service, has had to resort to stolen valour from veterans.
Disappointing and certainly not indicative of someone who holds the office of constable.
