Excellent comparison. Isnt it crazy that in mid-1998 you could buy a cheap Celeron 300A and make it faster than the fastest Pentium 2 ever released and just as fast as the fastest CPUs available one year later in early 1999, the P3 450 and 500 mhz ?

some 300A can reach 600MHz with a bit more vcore.... that must have been crazy in 1998!!! Future Proof for years!

Celeron A was pretty decent for the time. Had a 533MHz one, rarely let me down.

At the end of 1999 I had a Celeron 400 mhz but sadly I did not know how to overclock it back than. The 300A was certainly the best for overclocking.

The good old days! This System in the clip is my first PC (from 98) but with a PII350 and i had no chance to overclock it... SetFSB couldn´t find the right PLL Timer. A had to sell the PII350 for buying a 300A plus Slotket but i didn´t know about it. 😅

Well, unless SSE SIMD optimizations are used in a game, then the Pentium III is noticeably faster per clock cycle.

I remember well how amazing a value the Celeron 300a was. It was slow to catch on because the name Celeron was synonymous with crap. Went out and bought one and paired it with a Matrox G200 and it was the bees knees.

MaxPayne takes advantages of SSE i believe. The PIII is sometimes 50% faster 😱

@@blastfromthepast3073 well the 0kb l2 300 was useless and that earned them their name. Intel was crazy putting out a cpu that clock for clock was the same or better than their p2 and piii and with a much simpler design without external cache
