I used to work at a prison in texas and there was a classification system of inmates that could and couldn't be housed together...you dont want to put a predator in the cell with a victim for example
Unfortunately a lot of times it doesn't work like that because prisons are so overwhelmed and a lot of the staff are subpar, at best.
There are so many assaults, rapes, and murders in the prison system BECAUSE there is next to no screening done.

Same. I work in a mens prison in michigan, we only have one prison for women. We have a system to separate aggressors and "victims" in different cells. We also deal with our GID (gender identity disorder) inmates differently.

It is extremely bad for mental health. There have been several studies about it. Human beings are social beings, and solitary confinement should be last resort.

As a woman, I fully support trans rights. However, and here's where I'm going to get bullied; there's so much more to being a woman than makeup and nails. Just wearing make-up and saying "I'm a woman" feels like people are saying that it's easy to be a woman. I completely support those who are genuinely transitioning with hormones and surgery, but where I find issues is with those who aren't doing those things, only wearing makeup and growing their hair, then saying "I'm a woman". Being born with ovaries, dealing with a monthly nightmare, and feeling the bias against females, means nothing to these people. That's why I support Blaire, she's a woman to me, yet she understands that she'll never fully be able to experience the nuances of being biologically female.

To me, a trans women would WANT to transition hormonally at the very least..usually also getting breast surgery. I can understand not having bottom surgery as it is still not perfected as of yet so many like Blaire would rather wait. But wearing makeup and having long hair does not define being a woman. I dont wear make up(breaks me out) and while I like my long hair, I recognize that plenty of women have short hair and love it. Dressing up also isnt what makes us women. Its something far deeper than anything tangible or aestetic. There is truley a feeling to being a woman, that even when doing traditionally masculine things, you still feel like a woman and dont want to be a man. Its hard to explain but its really down to the brain. Real transwoman have female brains and they fundementaly feel like women and want to be physically as close to female as possible, and that doesnt mean make up it means horomones. I 100% believe that gender dysphoria is real, however its over diagnosied now a days and many of these people are transtrenders or straight up liars looking to take advantage of the system like this barbie person and Yaniv. And people who hop on the bandwago do a genuine diservice to those who actually have gender dysphoria because they muddy the waters and can make trans seem like a joke or even predatory(again like this person and Yaniv have done.)

Although it does need to be taken into consideration that not everyone is fortunate enough to gain access to surgery or hormones. For some people hair, makeup and clothes are the best or even only option whether this is due to health care in their country, costs, health issues that can be caused by hormone treatment (eg. conflicting medication) or age. It’s very unfair to say a person isn’t trying hard enough to present as their identified gender without first considering the context of that individual’s life.
Please forgive me if this is worded weirdly, I’m unsure exactly how to explain this and as a cis woman I should make it clear that I do not speak for the trans community.

It has been said that Barbie did not transition. Perhaps Barbie really identifies as a woman, but physically and biologically Barbie is a man. Because Barbie has not used hormone blockers or undergone any procedures it is reasonable to question the legitimacy of Barbie's transgender status. Especially since the basis of being transgender begins with a form of gender dysmorphia where a person does not feel comfortable with the sex of the body they are born in. Of course not everyone can afford treatment to transition which does draw a grey line. Knowing that Barbie has been a danger to many women and has predated on them in many ways, it makes it extremely unreasonable to have Barbie locked up in the same cells as other women who may be serving their time for petty crimes. This is putting the lives of a lot of women at risk and for no good reason. I don't see what you don't understand, Paul.

I'm a jail nurse and usually, we house trans inmates based on whether or not they've had bottom surgery. That is the point at which they're determined to have fully transitioned. With that being said, we usually house them in a single cell with no cellmates.

I completely concur. This has less to do with "equality" and EVERYTHING to do with safety. Safety should absolutely be the number one concern for every inmate, even Barbie, or the other examples you gave. Like you stated(though you don't strike me as a sexual predator lol), if for some crazy reason you did end up in prison, your safety, and the safety of the other inmates, should take precedent. You wouldn't be safe in a strictly male ward. And, you could also potentially become a victim in a women's ward. I understand people's desire for equality, but we should never sacrifice safety, health, and well-being for the facade of equality in specific situations, such as prisons.
Your rights end where someone else's rights begin. This has been confirmed with things like the baker that wouldn't cater a gay wedding. Even with Jessica Yaniv trying to use a human rights complain to force women to touch her weiner. Even if this person, Barbie, has to be housed in a women's prison, their actions would put them directly into segregation.

"proof" of gender dysphoria doesn't "legally make you trans". "trans" is not a legal category. Trans people aren't legally recognized as their identified gender until they have gone through the name/gender change process, which is very lengthy and can be very complicated. Self ID is important because a lot of trans people (especially those who are likely to go to prison) come from a disadvantaged socio-economic background and most likely don't have the means to go though the legal process. According to you logic, a poor trans woman that may have been socially living as a woman for 10 years but never had access to name/gender change should be put into a men's prison. See the issue?
Hi Blaire, as a biological woman I think your idea was a better idea than the current situation, however I feel it would work best if transwomen had their trans ward in the men's prison and the transmen had their ward in the women's prison. That way every prisoner would be in the correct prison for their sex. As a woman i notice that there is no consideration for real women to have space away from men in vulnerable places. Not just because of fear of violence, but mainly for common decency, and modesty and respect for women. There should also be trans toilets provided to separate sexes for privacy everywhere and safety for all people. Live and let live but I don't want to see men in my toilets or changing rooms or prisons.

You should remember the power of male hormones. Transwomen often don't pass but it is quite common for transmen to be indistinguishable from their biological counterparts. Transmen are 200% stronger than women because of testosterone. I have a female friend who works out quite heavily. Before my transition she was like this behemoth of a person I couldn't beat. Now, it's like wrestling with a child.
If I was in a prison with only female guards, being a guy who works out, I could cause some serious damage if I wanted to.

Nobody is forcing anything on anybody. It's not an ideological view point either. This is just the current consensus among experts and the direction society is going. It doesn't matter how small the community in question is. This other friend of hers called the one transitioning as non binary! I mean, cis men who were violent against men still went to men’s prisons? and cis women who were violent against women still go to womens prisons? I thought about that too, but her logic is not meant to provide a perfect solution to every situation. She still has a point, and so do you. If a lesbian woman has a history of sexually and physically assaulting other women, of course the solution is not to put her in a men's prison. But if you are a biological male who identifies as a woman even though you haven't gone through any of the procedure authentic trans women go through, and you have a history of physically and sexually assaulting other women, of course the solution is not to put that person in a women's prison either. So it's complicated. There's a lot of different factors and situations and outliers and they need to be evaluated to be able to create an optimal solution.
I personally agree that LGBTQ+ awards specifically for trans people will be the best option' for everyone. In terms with safety, legislation and other relations to this matter.
