The United Kingdom is a constitutional monarchy, in which the monarch shares power with a constitutionally organized government. The reigning king or queen is the country’s head of state. All political power rests with the prime minister (the head of government) and the cabinet, and the monarch must act on their advice.

@@wendyjacques9366 I commend you for going to all the trouble you did to compile this list, but there are a few errors.
The current monarch is Charles III, not Charles II.
Jane Grey is not considered to have been a monarch as she was never crowned and the majority of the English nobles considered her claim to the throne as invalid. If you put her on the list then you would have to add Matilda, the daughter of Henry I who named her his heir. Either both should appear on the list or neither.
In cases where there was only one monarch of a given name, he or she is not the first of that name until another monarch comes along by that name, So Queen Anne is just Anne, not Anne I. King Stephen is Stephen, not Stephen I.
William III was joint ruler of England with Queen Mary II - she was a queen regnant, not a queen consort.
Oliver and Richard Cromwell were rulers but not monarchs. They didn't consider themselves monarchs and no one else did either.
Finally, the opinions of most historians is that no monarch prior to Æthelstan could be considered the monarch of England since there was no such kingdom until Æthelstan united the separate kingdoms of Wessex, Mercia, Northumbria and East Anglia. The kings before him were called King of the Anglo-Saxons, not kings of England.

9th Century actually, 800s = 9th century just as we are in the 21st century now. As for earlier history England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland didn't exist as nations, there were kings, queens and leaders of various tribes that controlled certain areas but even post Roman occupation for first few centuries what is now England for example was not a country unified under one monarch.
Missing:Jane Grey, The “Nine Day Queen” and Henry the Young King (28 February 1155 - 11 June 1183) was the eldest son of Henry II of England and Eleanor of Aquitaine to survive childhood. Beginning in 1170, he was titular King of England, Duke of Normandy, Count of Anjou and Maine. Henry the Young King was the only English king since the Norman Conquest to be crowned during his father's reign, but was frustrated by his father's refusal to grant him meaningful autonomous power.[1][2] He died, aged 28, six years before his father, leaving his brother Richard to become the next king.
Also Queen Matilda is missing
This is a very poorly put-together line of succession. It is in error all over the place. Frankly, this should be taken down.

Hi, just wanted to say that Queen/Empress Matilda is missing (daughter of King Henry I and mother of King Henry II) I understand that she could be missing due to the fact that she kept "fighting" over the throne with King Stephen, but King Henry I did name her his heir to the throne.
Also Queen/Lady Jane Grey is missing, I can also understand this as she was only queen for nine days, but King Edward VI did name her successor.
Both persons are not officially recognised as Sovereigns. Matilda gave up her right on the agreement that Henry Plantagenet would become King after King Stephen. Lady Jane Grey was never officially declared Queen Regnant through the Accession Council, even though she was legally the heir.
@@ds1868 The accession council thing is purely ceremonial. The heir apparent/presumptive becomes the monarch the second the former monarch passes away.

But during the coronation, presenters were stating that there have been 62 English monarchs - which is this list. Even though the first King of England is Aethelstan. Also the Cromwells' title was Lord Protector, I believe.

Ethelred II the unready made me laugh. The picture suited the title perfectly with the contrast to the other portraits.

Thanks for this, it’s a good list 👍🏻 but a couple of wee things:
James I should be James VI and I, King of Scotland and England. He was the sixth King James of Scotland long before he became the first King James of England as well.
As others have pointed out, you missed Lady Jane Grey, Queen of England & Ireland between Edward VI and Mary I (albeit for nine whole days, the poor cow).
As for Oliver Cromwell, his self-styled title ‘Lord Protector’ would be more appropriate than simply ‘English Statesman’ given he was the de facto king. Ditto his inconsequential son.
Oliver Cromwell and his Plantation of Ulster are the origin of the Northern Ireland problems. Like most religious extremists he seems to have been a real " nut job".
No mention of Mary Queen of Scots either.

From 1542: King/Queen of England and Ireland.
From 1603: King/Queen of England, Scotland and Ireland.
From 1707: King/Queen of Great Britain and Ireland.

Fascinating. Thanks for this. I have just been reading up about the line of rulers. Others have mentioned some minor issues. Let me throw in a couple more because it is fresh in my mind. There is evidence that Alfweard, son of Edward the Elder, was king for three weeks or so between his father's death and his older brother Athelstan taking the throne. Athelstan is actually crowned after his younger brother dies. Also Sven Fork beard apparently ruled for 41 days, driving Athelred the Unready into exile. With Sven's death Athelred returned. The direct Anglo-Saxon line is considered at an end with Harold II though the Witenagamot elected someone named Edgar Atheling, a grandson of Edmund Ironside. Edgar Atheling never ruled, submitting to William the Conquer two months after election in mid-October. To many historians the line of English rulers is believed to have begun with Alfred who was the first to consolidate a good chunk of England. I appreciate that you went back to his grandfather Ecgberht. Thanks for this video.
Allof Alfred's older brother and his father are missing too. Without mentioning the names are mispronounces

Most of viewers does not born and do not know the history of kings & queens as most of us not known about others except Queen Elizabeth II and now King Charles III because have no idea about King George VI except on on old coins before 1957 April Ist, it is a knowledge to our generation,tq
It's cool presentation!
Я на протяжении всего видео: смотрю на портреты королей и понимаю, как часто у них менялся нос, и какой отличительной особенностью стала форма глаз.
R.I.P. Queen Elizabeth the II 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Что хорошего она сделала, чтобы рыдать.
Great video, but there is a mistake. The photo of George VI is actually of his father George V.
Longshanks was a straight up gangsta. F*ck what you heard.
Americans, get the correct George VI picture, the one shown is George V, Victoria's Grandson.
There was no Great Britain before 1707, therefore there were no Kings or Queens of such a place. The Act of Union (in 1707 under Queen Anne) between Scotland and England, which combined the Scottish flag of St. Andrew with the English flag of St. George (forming the Union flag seen today) resulted in the creation of Great Britain.
Yes, the Sovereign wore three separate crowns. Also the Coronation of the King of Scots still took place at the Palace of Scone!
It was possible to be the King of 2 separate countries at the time, which is why it says King of England and Scotland and not King of the United Kingdom.
It was sussex wäre alles offen them want to rule eh ich is still here today.
U mean, after these ppl looted and destroyed the whole world spinelessly??
@@cloveriteHis point is the Kingdom of GB didn't exist until 1707; there were 3 separate Kingdoms prior to 1707. The UK was only formed in 1801.
Imagine how this Kings and Queens are ancient and it started since the year 802???
Great video but George VI picture is incorrect
In addition Victoria, Edward VII VIII George V VI were also Emperor of India. George V was also last King of Ireland, thereafter only Northern Ireland
No I believe Edward Viii and George Vi were also Kings of Ireland. Ireland was only created a Republic in 1949.
Between the Queen Elizabeth II and Charles III, I felt the gap was of two centuries 😂😂
Thank goodness we found colour portraits of all those Anglo Saxon kings.
Да....очень интересно!
Такие все разные....
Есть ...что лица очень красивые!
I’m glad you showed the kings before William the Conqueror. It’s rare these days. Lol.
damonika09 but yet these videos for some unknown reason don't include Lady Jane Grey!
Great work well done.
What about Beorhtric, Cynewulf, Sigeberht, Cuthred, Æthelheard, Ine, Cædwalla, Centwine, Æscwine, Seaxburh, Cenwalh, Cynegils, Ceolwulf, Ceol, Ceaulin, Cynric, and where the title established , first King Cerdic of Wessex!
Wasn't Victoria not only queen of the United Kingdom and Ireland but also declared Empress of India?
Yes and her first 4 successors were Emperors of India
I am most certainly not a monarchist but I found that video very interesting.
It's a great facials event
