    i appreciated the builds and you going thru the math of how long the UC Pure Power will last. One thought for improving Ian's board design so that load always sees "Pure Power" of the UCs is to have two UC banks and have the board switch between the two UC banks (see Uptone Audio). This would greatly improve the flexibility of the system, make larger loads practical, and make the power supply quality irrelevant. Ian is probably is 99% of the way there with the Mark III's charge between song circuity, maybe for the Mark IV?

      I thought about that long time ago before even Ian started doing that, not sure if the switching will introduce any noise but would be good for power hungry devices I think between songs charging is a very clever idea and is enough for low power devices.

      Maybe switching at higher currents is the "magic" that Uptone Audio solved, their board looks pretty complicated and I believe the max. amp load is 1.0. However the current Ian PS/SC board is so limiting if used for DACs and Streamers with in the 0.5 amp power draw range or higher you used in this video. Your results showed a 165 second charge time with a 64 second charge time which is too long to charge between songs so current setup is a no go. If the power switching noise issue is easily solved you should be able to limit the wide allowable voltage range you observed, 12.6 to 15.2v, because you just need the charge time to be less than the discharge time. You also wouldn't need to use such large SC for most applications. In the end I believe the HiFi PS industry will shift to the dual bank SC power supply as it seems to me to be the ultimate HIFI PS, lots of available current with very low ESR. @@Gabster1

    Gaby how it influence sound? Is this better than decent linear PSU with high quality LDOs?

      Better for sure but varies some devices like opamps and clocks benefit a lot

    Hello, we have been reading about ucconditioner circuits not running properly because of bad soldering joints. But if they are correctly soldered and caps are from a reputable supplier the voltages on all the caps connected in series should be identical. If you cannot trust the device you just build how can you leave it unattended? Maybe you add some tiny isolated terminals on the outside of your chassis that will allow you to check voltages on all the caps in a few minutes. Especially if there are several charging cycles during the way when you are at work you want things to keep working . There are some people who prefer listening to music and not have their gear on the kitchen table once a month for inspection or the latest update. Greetings,Eddy

      Good point. may be small relays connected to led voltmeters to quickly do a check.
      disconnecting the power is also highly recommended when not in use.

      Hello, The clock circuitry needs to be powered all the time for the best sonics we are being told. They also use two caps in series but with a bigger safety margin. Even if you are home during a supercap supply going nuts it can be dangerous. WHAT should you do when you hear an alarming noise coming from inside your build? If there is to much pressure upon the aluminium housing of the cap , even during non charging condition, what to do? Put on your safety goggles, disconnect all cables into the cap chassis and put it in the middle of your garden?@@Gabster1

      I personally disconnect my system that will reduce the risk big time you can power your system few min before any critical listening the difference is hardly audible not worth the risk.

      I will not use this kind of equipment in my house. Even if you are there when it is going wrong i am not willing to take the risk. No matter how many well intended warnings and construction tips you will give most people will continue doing it not according to the book.     hi Gabster - if the voltage has a range between 12.8-15 then when we use it in a circuit, voltage is not stable is it?

    Gabby, the challenge is that many preamp circuits require voltage between 12 and 20 +-, but often times 13.5 for example. Whats the best way to get to more granularity in supply voltage without involving a regulator?

    I know it is unrelates but honestly you are the most knowledgeable source I know. Long story short, I have a pi2AES hat in the beat possible conditions (1000€ linear psu, good coaxial wire, volumio with local file on SD so no USB in the chain) and just went to compare it with iFi zen blue v1, running on a cheap 50€ psu with files from wireless lan, then Bluetooth LDAC , then fiber optic that is slightly inferior tp coax in my setup, and trashed the Pi HAT. This should not be possible. My question is if you try to compare the inc canada streamer with the zen blue, because I am thinking of upgrading my streamer, but to have 1000€ streamer lose to an old 150€ Bluetooth receiver again …

      Thank you. Most of us do not realise that for a streamer like a I IanCanda streamer or others they are only effective if you can bypass the Dac internal clocks and bad PSU. I always recommend to build a Streamer/Dac instead, for a couple more parts you get to see the real benefits of pure UC power and great expensive clocks.

      ​@@Gabster1I fixed it, and it was dumb. When I put the streamer on the back of my rack it was turned side way 90 deg. At first play the cooler from cpu had the adhesive melted and the piece of copper tumbled and was touching all sorts of components. Took it apart put it right again and now now it is far better sounding. Funny thing was it never had a buzz or anything that normally would indicate a short circuit, the sund lacked the punch, everything was dull, and lifeless.

      Hello, If you spend let us say 1000$ on the streamer side you will probably end up spending the same amount on the dac side of the line. If you spend 450 $ on two clocks instead of 100$ you cant use a dac that will be cheaper than your clocks. Sure clocks play a key role but a cheap dac remains a cheap dac. We can read on the internet how people wanna get ucpure for their Raspberry pi3/4/5. Ian develloped two boards so we can create physical and electrical distance between Raspberry and sensitive parts by using HDMI connection. No need to use that just use the most basic wire and connectors just like you do connecting a 60 $graphic card in your pc. BUT keep using these 450$ clocks.Good luck, Greetings, Eddy@@Gabster1

      Just make sure you test to make sure it is safe specially measure the voltage on each Uc not to exceed 2.7 these can be non reliable parts and at a higher risk then good brand name ones.

      I would NEVER use these kind of caps if they are not the original ones like those offered by companies like Mouser. Especially if they are connected 24 hours to the grid. Especially if used in series you will only need one of them go bad to end up in a disaster. Of course we might need a real accident with an insurance company not paying to wake up people.

      @@edgoewie2132 I totally agree best to use a reputable brand but even then I would still test it over time. also the balancing boards need to be tested over time.

      Safety First and over Time (24/7/365). This should be built into the design with “fuse like functionality" ideally before it actually becomes dangerous. This would also greatly improve user confidence in ultracapaciters these builds and demand😊.

      To reduce charge time these need about 4 amps of power if your solar can do that and you are not using it at night
      I would say not practical unless you modify it

      ​@@anwin85alonAlready connected AGM batteries that trickle charge while not in use , Super Capacitors are just a FAD O get 20 hours of playtime and filter the noise down to zero
