At Oshkosh 2021 I ran into this beauty. And I say that because this aircraft truly is beautifully designed form the inside out. The Montaer is a Brazilian design light sport aircraft. Capacity is 2 people, but you've got room in this airframe for days.
The Montaer MC01 uses a Rotax 912 engine like many of the other light sport in the market. You can also fit a Rotax 915 engine in this airframe which will boost the performance. Your cruise speed in the light sport category is still limited but your climb speed can be as high as the blue skies.
Montaer MC01 currently has a US distributor and the starting price is $160,000 for a nicely finished VFR airplane.

Hello Mike Thanks for the review of this plane. I've been looking for one that shows the entire cabin. The purpose of the third door is for the same reason as the Jabiru 230 having 3 doors. Before it was exported to the U.S. it was certified in it's originating country as a 4 seater. They took out the rear seat and reworked the numbers to make it LSA in the U.S,

Mike, Love the vids you put out. The numbers are important but the ones most reviews leave out are the cabin width at the hip and shoulder. Us big guys love those numbers. Keep a fabric tape measure in your pocket for your reviews. One last thing, How tall are you? That will give us something to compare by.

Tough choice given it's probably 1 formidable competitor?
Car creature comforts (cup holders, seriously?!👍). Actually plush high end seats fully retractable, sliding. That full-on full sized cargo door, geez. LSA, crazy nice.
Wing: How the wing strut angles back from wing mount! Clever, so while seated, I imagine they're not visible or at worst minimally obstructive => clear vision.
Versus - Ranger, where the metal bracing tubes obstructing forward vision behind the windshield, are annoying at best, and never going away, ever. Ranger's cantilevered implementation are great in mind however- the way the Montaer's struts sweep back, they look to hardly be visible from the cabin, and barely if any issue at all for loading, and tie down. Speaking of, tie down is, the one time when I'd be a bit more at ease having wings supported by struts. Which means, most of the time, if hangar space was full or rather save that money and just cover the plane on the tarmac. But from just looking from here, seems you'd have to strain your neck to see the Montaer wing struts from the cabin.
Ranger, interior so what if I track in some grass, sand, mud sort of austere.
Montaer, warm, soft, inviting, I think I'll take a nap right in here, wives and girlie girls would love.
Instrumentation:
No fair, after all Dynon IS Daddy, and both sides R/L are covered. Ranger avionics are ridiculously beyond full featured given the unbelievable VW of the skies price for even base models ready to fly.
Tough choice. Very tough.
Guess it depends on mission, with money saved, that'd buy T hanger. But those darned tubes. Smack dab front view, behind the windshield. Capitulation, if one can afford 130,000 one can likely also afford 170,000. All added $ discomfort forgotten at the mere sight of a Montaer and certainly when ever inside it.
Me, I'm accustomed to looking around my phone in my car, and tips of fishing poles to the right.
Continental power plant, less complex, easier to maintain, no worry of what can go wrong with a turbo, high benefit to cost.
Rotax 915, lower benefit to cost ratio given the gains, and mission. Shorter TBO interval, likely more expensive to overhaul.
As totally gorgeous as the Montaer is, I'd still go with a Ranger.
If my budget could do a brand new 182, I'd get 2 Rangers, and flight lessons for my partner/primary otherwise occupier of the other seat. LOL! Or just 2, one on floats moored Alatoona, the other at McCollum 😮 . . .
. . . and then I woke up, fumbling around for socks, shoes, needing to be at work by Zero Two-thirty hours 😂
Amazing interior detail, and a proper T-handle throttle lever. Clean panel. And a bargain at the price.

I wonder what the reason was to put the third door on the right side? It should be on the left side, the pilot side.
I recently saw another video featuring this plane. Apparently in Brazil it's sold as a 4 seater so that's why there's a third door. I like this walk around and the interior view. How tall are you? I'm tall myself at 6'5"-ish and wonder about how well I'd fit in these smaller planes.
He said he's 5'10" in a previous video. He should get more in the habit of saying that when he's talking about head and leg room.

Velocity OR Lancair IV-. Both are almost identical price.
I will decide with in next couple of weeks or a month.

I am leaning toward Velocity because still is in business.. Lancair is almost out of business and they no longer have the 4 place that I am interested in. They sold it to Cessna.

Nah, too many yoke fans to do that. I'd offer both as an option.
If there are any experimental or LSA’s here in the U.S. that you may not heard of, is it ok to post it on your FB page? There’s a manufacturer in Florida that has sells a 2-seat and a 4-seat that I don’t think there are any reviews on, period.

@@azcoyote007 i thought the same for about 30 years, then i started flying a stick and can't imagine having to go back to a yoke
@@HelloWorldETX I’ll give it a try at my earliest convenience. I think a common complaint would be that stick between the Passenger knees has more possibility for interference while yoke takes some intent. As far as control harmony and feel, I expect you know more than I do and will say stick is definitely better for that?
@@azcoyote007 Before changing to a stick, i just had no idea how much more relaxing and comfortable it is than a yoke. A stick does a number of things for me... it opens up the panel area without needing to make room for the yoke. When I need to use my hands i can quickly secure the stick with my knees and have both hands free; same for during preflight runup. it lets me hand fly comfortably for hours with either hand by resting my forearm on my legs and just tiny control inputs with a couple of fingers. it makes for much more responsive input with less flailing around of my whole arm and hand. I have never had any more issue with a passenger interfering with a stick than i have with a yoke or rudder pedals. As a part of preflight i do point out that if they feel the stick against their leg they need to give it more clearance, but honestly it would be a very large control input for them to be limiting movement and they get an idea how far the stick can move during the preflight "free and correct' control test box. if it worries you, remove the stick from the passenger side. after several hours behind a stick, i came to wonder why they even make yokes. Of course for those that just flip on the autopilot as soon as they leave the runway, they are just a passenger anyway so it probably doesn't really matter to them.
In my search for my next airplane, the first two requirements are high wing and a stick. Everything after that is probably negotiable. but this beautiful aircraft seems to have everything i am looking for...... except for the stick, which for me makes it a no-go.

It's strange that the Montaer website is only offered in Portuguese......the amount of money they would of spent developing and manufacturing the aircraft you'd think a few more thousand bucks spent on website & marketing would make sense???????
169k gets you steam gauges only with a carbureted 912. Add 50k to get into Garmin avionics.

Weight and balance is also important. Fill it up and load two standard people with 77 lbs of baggage is usually not possible

@@zore1998 I flew a DHC8 from 1988 to 2014 as captain and every 6 months when doing PIC/PPC checks Its a pain in the neck to see the flight instruments in certain maneuvers because the yokes block the view of the flight instruments. the yokes have to be higher than a stick to clear the knees which means the instrument panel needs to be higher.
A lower mounted glaresheild improves safety, as in climb out it allows better forward visiblity.
A center stick allows us to use any or both hands, so like me if you fall off your motorcycle and hurt one hand you can still fly with the other. its pretty difficult to fly a left sidestick with a right hand.
my 2 cents
an example is an immediate left turn at 50 feet to avoid terrain with left(critical) engine failure with no autofeather. with right aileron to counter the overbanking tendency towards the dead engine, that big yoke is blocking too many critical instruments. in instrument conditions we don't want to be moving our heads too much, trying to get a view around the yoke, which can induce vertigo...
Are there really yoke advocates that have spent appreciable time with a center stick and still want a yoke. (Not the side stick disaster but a traditional center stick). I flew a yoke for decades before switching to a stick and now I cannot imagine ever going back to a yoke.

I blame very interested in the plane, but I can not seem to get any reliable information on its availability. I tried contacting the "supposed" dealer in Maryland but he seemed to be rather clueless. My point: I'm not sure this aircraft is going to become a reality here in the US. Might be a winner in Brazil though! Oh, and $60,000. less in Brazil!!!

Somewhat 'strange': Empty weight 410kg, MTOW 600kg, so Load 190kg but when filling up tanks fully (100kg) only 90kg (~1 person) load left ... am Inoverseeing something!?

Most light sports don’t hold 36 gallons but yeah def a light load, either full gas or full cabin
I would assume the MTOW in Brazil is much higher since it is sold as a (4) place. If you don’t mind breaking the 600kg limit, load it up and use the Brazilian weight limit. Hopefully in the next couple of years, the FAA will expand the limits of weight and passengers related to the sport pilot license.

With light materials and quality build, LSA could actually carry 4 people within weight limits, just not allowed. And with two tiny turbofan jets, 4 people is easy within 600kg. Imagine dat.
