What I love most about Metroid Prime is that lore-wise it’s the culmination of Nature, the Chozo, and Space Pirates collectively saying “….oops.”

And then when it sees Samus, its first instinct isn't to fight her, the first thing it does is run away, which makes it smarter than most deadly creatures Samus has killed. Samus on the other hand just goes after it relentlessly without even a shred of hesitation.
Metroid Prime is a cosmic horror. Something that seems like it came from the depths of space. For me it's demonstration of Phaaze's horror and evil. Just a taste of it.
@@corvus9359 I like to propose a theory. The reason for it running from Samus at the start is because unlike the other Leviathan Guardians that Samus would later face far in the future had their infected planets guarded by the Space Pirates thus allowing the guardians to mature into the bosses in Prime 3, Metroid Prime had no such luxury as the Chozo's first instinct upon learning of its existence was to lock it down so that it would never see the light of day. Of course the Space Pirates stumbled upon it and it basically gained so much tech from them due to them experimenting on it before retreating to the core of Phazee Meteor in the Impact Crater which the Space Pirates could not get into because of the Chozo's seal over it. Not like it would've mattered as the second they would have stepped into that place they would not be equipped to deal with the intense radiation inside the crater because if they could there would've been at least some instance of the Pirates attempts to breach the crater. But due to this Metroid Prime only had its hive and its ability to produce its countless amounts of infant metroids there was very little in terms of viability for it to use the environment to its advantage thus why it sole relied on the stolen space pirate tech to try and kill Samus only for it to fail and forced it out of its shell and proceed to get showered by its own phazon.
Just finished the remaster. Wished they removed that f**** useless room before the boss whose only purpose is to fuck up your nerves with these unlimited metroids

When I played it on gamecube it was super fucking annoying- just there to drain you and nothing more.
The fusion metroids were annoying as heck, but they were part of the experience, and you could instakill them with power bombs or just run past them anyways. I always ran past them. It's not that difficult if you don't fall off the platforms.

There's just something about this moment that sticks with me. Here's the most dangerous lifeform on the planet, maybe in the universe, and Samus just sprints full-speed into battle against it, no hesitation whatsoever. So heroic and badass, and without needing to ever utter a single word of dialogue.
Looking at this boss fight again, I actually think the Metroid Prime was scared of Samus. When it awakens, instead of fighting her, the first thing it does is run away, which it continues to do until it's eventually backed into a corner. In its essence form, it repeatedly roars at her and makes itself appear bigger as if it's trying to intimidate her, which to me feels like desperation.
Samus on the other hand, just goes after the deadly giant monster relentlessly without even a hint of hesitation. Definitely one of the most badass video game characters of all time.
Not a far cry to say that Metroid Prime DID in fact flee maybe because of seeing the Phazon Suit on Samus. Since Phazon is a weakness of itself, that's where the "Flight or Fight" response came in. That and Prime was the Great Poison that lived a long time. Naturally the question is: Who is Prey and Who is Predator..? XD

@@LayneCocaine That's basically what I'm trying to get at. Unlike most creatures that will immediately attack Samus the second they lay eyes on her, the Metroid Prime acts like a cornered animal, rather than an apex predator.
Take note that this was all before Samus went Anakin Skywalker on all the Metroids.

I realized that basically everyone is afraid of Samus in the game. The Space Pirates even call her the Hunter in the logs and when they created Omega Pirate they assess the odds of it beating her.
I was hoping the final boss name would be renamed to “Metroid Prime Remastered” as a joke, lol!

Prime’s death is pretty brutal, you blast it with so much radiation that it mutates into some hideous incomprehensible blob then explodes like a party balloon, in the ending with dark samus you can even see piles of it’s viscera lying on the ground

I think all the animations and cutscenes were remade in the remaster.
I like how Prime’s Essence’s eyes narrows before the battle as if it’s showing that it’s done playing around and is now out for your blood.

Either that, or it's trying to get a read on Samus because it knows she has it backed into a corner, and this fight is its only chance for survival. Earlier, when the Metroid Prime first lays eyes on Samus, it must've known she was a genuine threat because the first thing it does is run away instead of fighting her.
The scariest thing from this is when you first open the door and are greeted to what’s in the thumbnail staring at you…

I think my favorite thing about the storyline in Metroid Prime is that, Samus didn't have to go and kill it. She only went down to Tallon IV to chase Ridley and Space Pirates and at this point in the story, she's already dealt with them. Samus was like, "Welp, my ship's still fixing itself, might as well go for a full clear." She really is the fuckin Hunter
Not entirely true, as you saw from the scans from the scan visor in Samus's Helmet, Metroid prime was/is a "Phazon producing life form", I highly doubt she was going after it just for sport, she probably knew how much of a danger phazon was and decided to take it down as a precaution not just for her own sake, but also (as you saw in the later prime games) for the well being of others
I beat the game on normal mode, and immediately started over and played through again on hard. I've never done that before with a game.
It has an addicting style not many games like that honestly, just goes to show how well Retro did on this game

the phazon suit is just next level badass i wish the red was a bit more lava like but still i love it.
It's probably my favorite suit in the series tbh I wish there was always an option to have it equipped in any game

@@knux5796 Gravity suit is the best in the series though. Phazon suit is my least favorite, personally. Not because of the concept, but the execution. I felt like the color balance just doesn't quite hit for me. Meanwhile, the Dark Suit from Prime 2 is a similar concept, but executed better.
The first phase is one of my favorite boss themes ever. Such a bizarre and cool track.
I just can't believe how fucking immersive this game is . 39 years old , have been playing games for more than 25 years and i have seen nothing this immersive before . Look at all the details , just fucking look . The way she shields herself from incoming attacks , the way the visor reacts realistically to all that's happening on screen . The way Metroid takes up the whole screen like some sort unspoken mystical force not from our world . The cool way the guns change function and color to facilitate with the fight or how eack visor differs drastically from one another , uncovering with each state a new part of metroid's mysterious yet intriguing nature . Time and again have i finished this game before but also time and again do i stand in awe and amazement by how this masterpiece looks .

Ik it’s not as emotionally complex as Mother Brain in Super. But Metroid Prime’s still my favorite Metroid boss because it forces you to utilize all your skills. First gun types, then visor types.
It's funny how his attacks are just: ram into you, create Shockwave, create metroids. Nothing too showy or flashy, but the story, design, setting, and definitely the music make it feel so much more epic. This game was formative for me as a child, and I'll never not love it.
Probably the most memorable final bosses of all time. Getting to this moment as a child was one of my key memories.
Love the twisted music. Really makes Metroid into something just better than the average game. Crazy synths and such.
I just did a play through on Wii Trilogy with music at 0% and now for my 2nd Remastered play through. I find it more immersive, you're much more connected with your surroundings. And easier to notice the hum of upgrades.
Prime was one of a kind, Coming back 18 years later was a treat. Hope they do the next for sure 😊

This game has some of the greatest bosses ever I must say. They're epic.
It is amazing how some of the bosses (including Metroid Prime) now look much more menacing and scary at times compared to the Gamecube original.
I literally can't believe that Metroid Prime in his exoskeleton can now actually scare me a bit from seeing that face reveal and those glowing red eyes. Despite me having finished the game several times, Metroid Prime in the original GCN release never really scared me or frightened me, while in the remaster, he looks much more scarier than before that I now actually startle a bit when seeing his red eyes.
Dude same I was curious how they were gonna make prime look and I was not disappointed by the result prime looked amazing back on the gamecube and they just managed to make it look way more badass
Similar story, though I always found both forms of Prime to be cool as hell, to the point where I'd draw them, and I like aliens and whatnot. What bothered me were the space pirates and the Sheegoths. The sheegoths slightly unnerved me in the original, but in this one they're spookier for sure. In general, the improvements in lighting made the shadowy areas more terrifying and gave Prime a bit more of a horror edge to it.
Never beat this on the GameCube back in the day. Finally done it! Thank you now only corruption to play and complete 💪
I couldn't cycle through weapons fast enough on the GameCube controller during the final phase just before the core fight. I gave up after I don't know how many attempts, 20? Finally finished the game on Wii Trilogy, third try, and Remastered. Ready for a second final boss fight in Remastered. Core fight is a piece of cake, if you're stocked up on power bombs to get rid of the annoying Metroids.
I played this game as a kid. i really loved Prime Remastered, I felt like it gave the game new life, even if it was still fundamentally the same game I had played a billion times but with updated graphics.
When I was a little kid, I had a weird relationship with scary imagery. A lot of things that I can obviously tell were supposed to be scary, like the sight of the massive Omega Pirate far in the distance in its soft blue stasis tank against the inky blackness, just read to me as "woah cool monster!" to my three year old brain. The way that Metroid Prime looks like a face when you first open the door to the infusion chamber was the same, I was just like "cool!"
When I played Prime Remastered, I opened the door, saw the Metroid Prime hanging from the ceiling, and saw _that damn face._ I did NOT want to go into that room. Knowing it was the same boss I had fought billions of times only barely helped.
A lot of people talk about how they wish they could forget everything they know about games like this, so that they could re-experience it all blind once more. Prime Remastered gave me a taste of that feeling, showing me the chill the devs wanted me to feel the moment I opened the door to the Phason Infusion Chamber and saw a bony disembodied face, seeming to radiate evil from the blue glow of the Phazon as it stares me down and dares me to step forward.
One of the best final bosses ever
It's insane to me that this game looks this good and runs flawlessly at 60fps and they couldn't get the incredibly low polygon Pokemon Scarlet and Violet to run at a stable 30 for what seems like almost a year
It's is because of narrow environments. Less compute power needed than big opened erea.

@@DekkarJr That’s a terrible viewpoint to live by though. Though blame is totally valid in cases, thinking that “the consumer deserves someone to blame” can lead to scapegoating, which doesn’t solve problems and in fact actually can lead to more problems then when people started out with.
Anyways, the real answer is that it’s probably both. There is a lack of quality control that goes into Pokémon games, and it’s obvious to see that when they are pumping out games left and right. However, Metroid Prime’s room structure does make it have to load less at one time then Pokémon does due to its room narrowness, which almost certainly contributes to why Metroid runs better then Pokémon does.

Notice how they brought it back the damage from deflection against Prime? It's noted as being the only time deflected beams and weapons hurt Samus, but only in the GameCube version. I noticed she got hurt by the super missile so they obviously brought it back for realism like the ice gun freezing I'd presume, but bosses are one place where that should happen tbh.

I love how the remastered version is. It is like some Alien Movie. But have no intention playing this game again. I don't wanna go through the horrors of this game. It took me over 8 to 10 years to beat this game cuz I was scared when I was little and I didn't now where am I supposed to go next. Then I found out that I had to collect all the Chozo Lores and I did not want to go back to the areas where I did not get them the first time especially the areas where Shadow Pirates hangout.
I was the same way with the resident evil franchises but you'd be surprised how therapeutic it is to conquer those scary memories and thoughts and makes you realize it ain't so bad I love the RE series now I recommend this game to anyone curious about it 100%
Resident Evil is pretty cool and I have played it 1 time before during my middle school years. And I don't like how we have low ammo and the characters can't run fast enough to get away from any mutant freak trying to kill them

I'm the same way, I'm still playing old games from my elementary to high school years. I got that new Sonic Frontiers Game and I still haven't played it yet.

The music leading up to the final boss fight and then when it shifts to the main soundtrack is always my favorite part I have a save file that I just go back to from time to time just to experience the magic all over again it truly is art personified

I usually deal with the smaller Metroids in Hyper Mode first
I just use the power bomb as soon as they spawn so prime can get the full brunt of it it deserves every last shot lol I ain't wasting it on the smaller scrub metroids, I think it's a better strategy for harder difficulties too but I see where you're coming from
It is so satisfying to discharge the phazon beam and watch the Prime squirm. I almost lose all my health because of the damn metroids.

Genuine question: whys there an aura around Samus's Phazon Armor? Graphical bug or design choice? Any insight? Thx in advance
I believe it's kind of like a shield for the radioactive phazon you encounter throughout the game, it'll tear you up pretty bad after you get that suit you become immune to its effects. I always liked that design choice personally

Do you mean the hyperbeam? So at 11:08 do you see when he puts that phazon puddle down?, just stand over it and shoot at him you have to choose different visors if he's Invisible in your current one and just rinse and repeat and you're golden ✨️

My Goodness! is this on hard or easy mode? I started playing the remastered on normal and I think it will take me 6 months to defeat this boss
I think its just on normal but hard mode is no joke thats for sure
How do i effectively know what visor to use to see him in the last phase? cause it seems all trial and error. i go to my thermal, sometimes he's there, and sometimes not. Same with Xray and normal. How can i tell which one to use?
Well I think it's mainly just random but at one point I could've sworn it was similar to the order in which you got them in the game, like thermal than xray but yeah I think it's just random lol

@@smashedkane8711 The game has scared me a few times. Trust me! I just past the incinerator and barbed wasp boss and needed to calm down. First person shooters aren't a thing I do and Prime is placing me at my limit. I'm also stuck and trying to find the other upgrades and boss.😅
@Sapphire Jade thats the magic of metroid you can explore every crevice of the world has to offer and find things you never even knew were there I still find stuff from the entire series years later that I had no idea about lol it's even fun to speed run 😄
nohing wrong buying this again, with an absolute masterful remastering using the same engine..this game is will hold up forever..and Im not even saying this from a nostalgiac point of view..this, Rez , okami and windwaker are gonna stand the test of time..
100% agree. I try and replay the trilogy each year to keep it fresh. If I'm not playing this game, then I'm listening to the OST or watching playthroughs like this. The fact this series has endured for so long tells me it isn't going away any time soon.

Nope. However you can play the Trilogy (Wii) Version of the Game with a modded Emulator Version called Primehack. It adds a bunch of features like kbm Support and FOV settings

Yeah the 2nd part is pretty lack luster tbh but the the 1st part isn't that bad I actually like it alot especially on hard prime can really mess you up
@@smashedkane8711 indeed, in hard mode i noticed that the bosses get insanely aggresive overtime, Ridley, Omega Pirate, Metroid Prime do this, i started the final boss with all the tanks filled and, i only had 3 by the time i was battling the essence, i swear i was in full tension, in the end i killed it with 25% of my last tank, just think of how nervous i was with the low health beeping.

I whittled down it's first form only to find out it has that stupid second form, and died shortly after figuring out how to attack it and blasting every time of arm cannon ammo into my face. How annoying.
Good game bullet sponge bosses hold it back.
I surprised for Samus design, is the same from Súper Matroid and also from the original Metroid Prime, ok Echoes put the Zero Mission design
The metroid series is legendary for sure, I dont think she has a single suit I didnt really like across all the games tbh

I really thought this was the best boss in the game. That and maybe Ridley’s second stage. Overall the bosses in Prime one were pretty mid, the combat in general feels the most dated aspect of the game. A good boss should make you move more, and make you think more, and none of the bosses really did that for me except Ridley and Metroid Prime.
I agree fully with this, all the other bosses ain't really anything tbh they don't give that sense of danger that ridley and prime give off they keep you on your toes and I hope prime 4 lives up to the hype I have faith in retro 🤞
@@smashedkane8711 when you consider the shaky development history of Metroid Prime and the limitations of the hardware and controls it’s nothing short of a miracle that the game came out so well. It’s still incredibly impressive of a game released in 2002.
Agreed. I wish they'd have gone a step further and shot for a full remake, at least when it came to the bosses. The only bosses that really keep me on my toes are Omega Pirate and Prime Exo. Even Ridley's second phase for me drags for a bit and leans on the repetitive side. My hope is that they're doing more interesting things with the gameplay and combat mechanics for Prime 4. Graphically, though, this remaster bodes well.
@RenegadeChain most definitely those 2 bosses are the best in the game for how much they can destroy you if you're not careful especially on hard mode the games beautiful and it's a step up this franchise needed, dread was awesome but was still missing that FPS flair for me personally so I'm hype to see where they go next
You need to play Prime 2 if you haven’t. Aside from the Boost and Spider Guardians, the bosses in that game are far better
The game looked much better, except for Samus. It looked like she'd taken a few too many wacks from the ugly stick.
When I saw that Nintendo was actually pulling the most Nintendo move possible and releasing this *on its own without the other two games* , I immediately laughed at the fact that people were still going to actually buy it and praise them for it.
Now that I see gameplay of it for the first time and see that it really is just the original but a little bit more polished... I'm laughing harder. And I just know there's people out there who still own the original in totally playable form, still bought this, and think it's actually worth it. Hey, good for you, buddies. (I mean sure, being able to look around and move at the same time is probably nice, but then you're effectively buying new controls for your 20-year-old game.)

The helmet coming off like this is lore accurate. Nintendo changed how her suit works after Prime. It's an energy-to-matter transformation rather than regular armor.
