Gotta love that this game isn't shy about the brutal fact that most of the bosses just straight up die in battle. Particularly the bioweapons, which blow apart in chunky fleshy pieces. Star Wolf are pretty much the only exception, and even then, your second rematch with them shows they didn't get out without a scratch.
They undergo the same alterations as the starfox crew lol.
They’re missing parts of their faces and are now half robot. Wolf got lucky he just has a head wound
The most disturbing death of any boss in this franchise goes to drakor. He dies exactly like Stan in volcano. His entire body melts as he shrieks in unimaginable torment.
Honorable mention goes to the Forever Train conductor, especially when he flies at what looks to be 100 miles per hour to his certain, atomizing doom at the fuel depot.
@@zacharykenniston748 Made even worse by the fact he was actually supposed to be one of the main antagonists but lost literally his entire character when the game got converted to a Star Fox game.
@farenhitegr6493 The funny part is how he brought that on himself since the entire level he keeps going faster and faster. You can also hear the breaks on the train squealing as he tries to stop.
"Ah. so this is star fox" procceds to lose a leg mid sentence.
“Ahhh, so this…where the fuck did my leg g- uh I mean…So this is Star Fox!?”

Fox: I’m sorry, you were saying?
@@jimkelly7908was literally just about to comment, lmao
There's confidence, & there's acting like you didn't just fall & can't get up lol
9:34 -- Ja Green's vocal performance as the Mechbeth train engineer is golden. He perfectly captures the horror and terror of that sap as his out-of-control train plows through the buffer stops and into the fuel depot.
One detail I love is somewhat of the non spoken story telling about how the routes work. For example, in order to reach Area 6, you have to either go through Sector Z or get the train to crash in the fuel depot. Which implies that through Sector Z you sneaked your way to Venom's air defence and they are caught unaware, they knew Starfox was coming but not when or where so they are stretched thin, allowing a window. Meanwhile, the fuel depot is that most of their ships are grounded due to lack of fuel which allows a window through Area 6.
Hell, to even get to Sector Z you have to not get spotted by any spotlight in Zoness, otherwise Andross forces know where you are. The missiles in Z are pretty much blind fire from Andross Forces in an attempt to stop you, even if they don't know where you are, if the Greatfox is damaged, even with the stretched lines, Fox is reluctant to risk it though Area 6
Failing either forces you to go through Bolse, the easier path, because Area 6 is too heavily fortified to go through.
For me it was intriguing that either Bill or Kat could show up in later levels based on your prior level completions, but they'd never both show up at the same time (Sector Y would lead you to Kat levels if you succeed, and Bills path if you failed the hidden HIT requirements)
@@Atylonisus Indeed, those are also good.
But the missiles are not blind fire. The mission is "The Ambush of the Great Fox" they were expecting them. As much as i like you theory and creating a narrative for the routes i dont see how it connects. Looking back, I do wish that whatever missions you left undone would come haunt you later like starwolf reappearing on the satellite. So if you didnt destroy the secret weapon on sector X it shouldve returned later in the game or if you didnt destroyed the oil depot then there would be more enemies in area 6
@@RicardoLopez-fz7lf I imagine those were handled by the Cornerian navy. They go along the path you don't choose. It's a stretch but it's better than leaving it undone. they weren't completely obliterated on Corneria after all, just wounded at most.
As for the missiles, then if they know you're coming from that path, I'd theorise it's an attempt to buy themselves time if not outright stop you.
Though I do like the idea of the undone missions coming back against you, though the player ought to be made aware of that, so it should be a sort of addition to expert mode.
@@combinecommando001 I think there's a degree of that in later games, namely Tactics where you find out that Aquas, the planet with Bacoon on it, was eventually terraformed and made habitable again after Bacoon was defeated but if you never defeat it, then Aquas remains a flooded planet as Bacoon was the source of the flooding.
This dude thrashed Cyborg Team Star Wolf so hard, Andrew couldn’t even get out his opening line lmao
They got new ships

Reminds me of terminal montage.
It’s almost like it was your goal to kill as many bosses as possible before Slippy can say “I analyzed their shields.”
I love that on the time it takes the first boss to say “Ah, so this is Star Fox!” He’s already lost a leg on his mech and face planting on the ground.
This is the kind of footage the dog general shows to the politicians to justify hiring star fox

You know, this game has aged pretty well in the visuals. I don't think that's the nostalgia talking either.
It is still very polygonal but the game remains very good.
@@carlosbleu7396the art style of the ships works well with polygons
Maybe.
Games beung made for quality helps.
I miss the good 'ol days...
Games are now more expensive to make but many companies prefer choosing the easy way.
I like how this game has two general directions depending on what route you take to approach Venom.
By taking the Easy Route through Meteo, you start to see Star Fox gain some naiveity as they cannot predict an ambush. They also start to mock each other almost as if they aren't taking the mission seriously and just blitzing through it.
Forwarding that into Sector X, Star Fox gains incompetence as they start to make many careless mistakes. Which is reflected by YOUR performance as they tell you to be more alert of your surroundings. It's almost like the game is teaching you to take caution and stay on guard around everything by taking the Easy Route.
And lastly, by doing the Easy Route Venom, you see how your teammates are rest assured by Fox being safe and they proceed to the ceremony as usual. But in the end credits, Andross' head is still visible which means you've only killed the robotic double.
In contrast, the Hard Route through Sector Y has Star Fox showing professionalism and doing their best. By staying in formation by the end before facing the Shogun Carrier, you are granted an Extra Life which further reflects their competence.
Going forward from there onto Sector Z, Star Fox is taken by surprise by an ambush but quickly reform their ranks and fend off the assailants. To add even more support, if you've completed Zoness before entering Sector Z, Katt will help you destroy the missiles, as will the rest of your teammates. She will also appear during Macbeth if Zoness was cleared prior. Another useful touch is Falco will help you shoot the 8 switches on Macbeth to force Mechbeth and his Forever Train screening right into the depot.
And lastly, on Area 6, Star Fox and the Great Fox take the Venom army by complete surprise, mopping their numbers with little difficulty. It shows how your performance following Sector Y and forward has paid off and you've become an ace pilot. From helping your teammates out of a bind to giving you an easier Mission Accomplished, the support you give on your teammates is reflected in your performance through the Hard Route.
Personally, I think this game has great narrative and it shows that the classic generation never went wrong on showing a newbie the ropes.
I don't know why, but I've been so obsessed with the Nintendo 64 out of nowhere. Heck, I haven't touched a Nintendo console in almost a year and just watching stuff like this has just been scratching the itch I felt lately.
Greatest console of all time. We lived in a golden era
34:50 never noticed that because the boss knock out slippy the shield bar disapears, i mean slippy is the one analising the boss shields xD
I wonder if it also applies to the other bosses (excluding Andross and the Star Wolf Team).
@@Superemie401 It does. If Slippy isn't in the battle for whatever reason, you won't get the boss's health bar. Its the same in other Star Fox games as well, to my knowledge.
@@Aleph3575 Its actually a mechanic for all the pilots. each one gives a specific benefit if present
Slippy gives you Boss Meters
Falco either full on unlocks new routes (Corneria Secret Route) Helps with the Secret Objective (Zoness he takes out a super difficult searchlight near the end, Sector X he helps shoot open the warp gates) or he generally helps with secret finding (Meteo he shoots open multiple asteroids that contain gold rings)
Peppy gives important tips and tricks for bosses or stage mechanics (Most notable in Macbeth with him guiding you through the switches to redirect the train
its a great detail that gives each character a purpose beyond dialogue and mayday events
The most brutal loss is when Great Fox takes a hit in Sector Z.
The bio weapon on Aquas
And that damage stays throughout the game which is pretty cool
When i wasnt good at the game my biggest loss was bills home getting destroyed
Dont forget letting the bomb detinating at the base where you first encounter starwolf... the blast can be seen from space... who knows how many lives lost on that planet.
@@GuardianAllin IKR! I was devastaded the first time that happened.
I didn't realize how unique and lively all the little sound effects were in this game.
Never noticed how great the soundtrack for this games was.
Quite enjoyed the boss tracks in particular.
🎶🎶🙂
I'm going crazy over all the sound effects like item pickups & the sound of the radios tuning in & out lol
Watching this boss rush just made me and my older sister giddy with memories and we just started talking how we were kids back then, so mesmerized by the game and so fun to play. We played this game nonstop for months on end because it was just addicting to play. Finding all the routes, the secret stuff, anything we could find on it... It was just so fun!
Our biggest reason was trying to get the HIGHEST possible score in the game to see if it would unlock anything secret in the True Ending of the game back in the N64 era. The only secret was General Pepper being surprised at the STEEP bill he was given to pay StarFox for their efforts. It was adorable. And our second reason for continuous playing of the game, was practicing against the bosses to try to kill them with style. We also watched our dad play it, he was having fun, and we taught our little brother how to play it... it was just... a good game.
God the memories... I miss those days. Thank you for going through the bosses! :D

There's some secret voice lines for peppy slippy and falco. When playing on an all-range mode level, fly in front but in the same direction of them they will say a special line. Most of it is about the past and basic chat
I can confirm that, and I even remember what they say if you fly near them.
Peppy says: "I see your father in you, Fox." He knows Fox cares for his teammates and flies next to them to give them a hand, which Peppy grew up and flew alongside James. A nice touch to a lasting family friendship.
Falco says: "Don't worry about me, Fox!" Cocky attitude at its finest. Falco doesn't care if he's close, but he doesn't tell him to back off either. He's okay with the company and doesn't mind a bit of competition.
Slippy says: "Let's take it to 'em, Fox!" It's almost like Slippy is encouraging Fox to do his best and be the ace pilot for the team. And it shows - you stay in formation in Sector Y at the end, you get an extra life showing their professionalism. And in Area 6, they all work together to raid the Venom defense. It's little interactions like this which make the game such a gem.
StarFox 64 has insane replay value one of my all time favorite games
This game taught me what carpal tunnel felt like when I was young and I still love it over 20 years later
The strobing of the enemy armor in this game to indicate you’re hitting the right spot is just such a comfy nostalgic thing to look at.
starfox vs starwolf was always my favorite. the music. the voices. the constant banter and how they react to your moves. just pure perfection 🤌
Whoa never knew you could fly through Great Fox during the missile assault
Same here.
I wonder if it heals you
@@arthurbarros5189It does. It's their own cockpit, so flying into it restores you all the way to full health. It even repairs your wings free of charge, but you still lose the laser upgrades.
Oh yeah. You miss some secret scene at Sector Y and Katina.
After you defeat the boss.
- If you score less than 100 kills, Corneria's fleet won't survive. (You'll get only access to Katina since you failed to protect Corneria's fleet).
- If you score more than 100 kills or reach golden, Corneria's fleet will survive. (It will unlock your way to Aquas and the Corneria's fleet will take care of Katina).
Katina:
- No Bulldog Fighter shot down: Bill will thank Fox and Fox will reply that he owe Fox.
- Any Bulldog Fighter shot down: Bill will talk goodbye in normal way.
It’s really cool that the entire team that made this game made Pokémon stadium 1 and 2
They were masters in their craft
My favorite game growing up. All the differnt paths and learning how to unlock things with trail and error. I still remember the day I learned bombs locked on. It made the wolf battles and many boss fights soooooo much easier. I love seeing someone show this gem some love.
30:37 the real final boss for me was getting out of this place. For some reason when I was a kid, I kept dying trying to escape lol
What was your problem? Kept cutting corners too tight and ramming into the wall or going the wrong direction of James? Cause if you do the second thing, that's an INSTANT death.

(angry glare) you were SAYING?
Very interesting compilation. I've never seen some missions "complete" before, it's good that you edited them in!
Some of the bosses have hidden fail conditions. I'm pretty sure Mechbeth and Golemech both have insta-kill attacks if you let the battle go too long. Golemech in particularly will eventually just make a mass of walls you can't dodge.
Edit: I always preferred this version of Leon. I HATED him in Assault. Like, I get that they made Panther the "suave talker" in that one since its part of his character to be a ladies man but still.
Huh never knew that. Was literally just wondering if some of these looped infinitely.
@@bubblegumxo Yep, actually looked it up both of them do. If the fight with Mechbeth goes for longer than 10 mins, the engineer will say "Time to finish this!" and the mech will slam into the Landmaster insta-killing it. The attack is unavoidable.
I can confirm the insta-kill from MacBeth and the Forever Train. Also, with the Golemech, you have to go like five minutes into the fight before you're greeted with an extra life and THEN a straight domino of walls kills you. I've never gotten either as a kid since I always shot the train into the supply depot by hitting the 8 switches, and the Golemech was always a bitch to fight due to how often he made pillars appear FROM THE FLOOR to which I had no idea you could turn the Arwing sideaways. I still killed him even without knowing that.
That first boss is a helluva bigger challenge if, you try to shoot its back ONLY and try to not damage its arms head or legs. And even if you take out the head and arms but let it keep walking with its legs, trying to get behind the thing is a lot harder than it looks...
Andross:Only i have the brains to rule Lylat.
A very hilarious pun right there
Starfox: So, Andross, you show your true form!
Andross:IF I GO DOWN I'M TAKEING YOU WITH ME!!😡

Love this game, even if I'm trash at it.
Also love when your allies choose to fly across your line of fire while fighting the boss, and have the gall to complain when they're hit.
Meteo Crusher voice actor went that extra mile

Pretty smooth flying, Fox
How fast were you tapping the shoot button cause you didn’t even give the health bar enough time to register lol
I wonder about the fast-shrinking health bars even on the higher difficulty.
@@Patricio4Christ Iirc expert mode just means your wings break easier (causing you to lose hyper lasers). Everything else is the same.
@@liruenth do you also lose stability? I thought that I had to correct the lateral movements after my wings broke.
@liruenth there are also more enemies.
Also I'm pretty sure these clips are using computer assists to shoot as fast as we see here
If you time your bitton presses just right you can shoot lasers really fast. Every time you press A, Fox fires 3 shots of laser. If you press A right after the 3rd shot goes out, you shoot really fast
good to know that I actually got all bosses, just never got the forever train ending because being young and not understanding english meant that i never knew that the locks were a thing
Even though this game was pretty much for kids. Looking back some of these bosses and levels were nightmare fuel. Some of them were legitimately creepy.
Andross has to be one of, if not the smartest Nintendo villain, the fact he created a fake copy of himself and a whole pathway to a fake lair in case Star Fox took the safe route by engaging Bolse has to be one of the smartest moves I've ever seen
having back up in those missions was always the best little cutscenes

Great work, Star Fox 64 is my childhood.
i loved playing this game as a kid on n64. Great job with all the bosses
He made it look so easy!
I've always loved the ending to this game, thinking Fox dies and then James shows up and leads you to safety and then disappears into the galaxy somewhere because he can't be assed to actually be there for Fox any other time lol. It's always made me laugh but I love it regardless, plus the VA for James did a damn good job. Was kind of hoping in later games Fox would have a voice similar to that but alas.

You can even cheese Star Wolf. They actually do fly/spawn in at the start of their cutscene. They always come from the bottom right corner of the map, and will be at the at the very top. If you mash, you actually shoot less lasers. If you got the right rythm you shoot more lasers
He’s using some sort of auto clicker then
funny yes there is a mash “limit” but honestly if you can stiffen your finger by pressing your thumb under your index finger and using your forearm as support you can mash as fast as this, think stream/velocity into your tip of your finger into a constant press~
