I bought a 2005 E300CDI with 105,000 miles on her about 3 years ago. Since then I've changed the oil, cleaned filters, replaced one tire and two lightbulbs. That is it! Its been a fantastic car and is my 4th MB diesel (W123, W124, W210, and now W211) . I get 37MPG on the highway and around 24 in town; not bad for a supremely comfortable car.

2006 E350. Bought it in March 2016 from the original owner w/ 118K on the clock. First 2 yrs of ownership were expensive: replaced upper & lower control arms, driveshaft, motor mounts, trans mounts, all 4 brakes, and that majorly expensive manifold thing. MBZ reimbursed me for the p&l SBC replacement. All that aside (big aside) I do love this car - lots of fun to drive. People don’t expect it to have the power & handling it does.

Shoot I bought a 07 E350 with 200,000 miles exactly the car appears, drives and runs like a brand new car, most servicing you can do yourself. But theirs no lights on the dash, hardly any wear on the interior this car is gorgeous price $5000. What you get for the price of a used Mercedes is unbeatable. I've been driving older Mercedes for years and just got rid of a 2000 C240 that was the same way and their was nowhere I wouldn't go in that car low miles for a 2000 just 142,000 but i abused that one just to see what it would take for almost 6 years lol

I really enjoy my E350 AvantGarde 2005 W211 -- a first gen. E350 with the engine balance shaft issues, also found on the early E500 (which my car shows no sign of to date)... Owned it now for over four years, bought it with 80,000 km and now just reaching 100,000 km. I make sure it's oil-changed every 6 months using appropriate synthetic oil, an MB original filter, and that the transmission oil is changed every couple of years. Very occasionally the 7-speed auto can become abrupt on downshift into first or second (less obvious in 'comfort' mode)--this is fixed by an easy electronic transmission reset which you can do yourself in several minutes. Every two years I have the brake fluid flushed and have experienced no probs with the first-ever drive by wire electro-hydraulic brake system... The most 'expensive' repair has been replacement of a certain front-end upward? facing suspension ball joint and link (replaced both sides to avoid future issues), indicated by obvious squeakiness... A pleasing Benz so far and am hoping it matches the 28 year life-span of my previous W124 E300...

Firstly you have done a great job by putting this on CZcams. Whenever I see a W211 or A W212 I remember my father because he was an Automobile Engineer, my father went to Germany to build his career. (Although we are from India my father used to tell me that Germany is a holy place for car Brands like BMW, MB, VW and Porsche). Finally he came back to India after he became 65yrs old. He bought his 211 with him it had 3.2 or 3.0 V6. He taught me hove to deal with small niggles, finally i graduated as an Automobile Engineer also, we both started to re-work the car we changed the suspension, replaced the 7G-tronic with a 9G-tronic, replaced the AC Compressor, and finally replaced the old ECU with a special ECU made by BOSCH. Recently I got it painted the car with new colour and also the headlamps with Xenon ones. Even today it drives like a GEM and runs like a proper Mercedes, My son recently bought a E320D 2022 version. But i feel the W211 is more closer to my heart.

I still drive my 2005 e320 6 cylinder. It's been very reliable though repair costs are high. It's the normal little things that wear out over time but the motor and transmission are solid. I take very well care of it and never miss the recommended service. I have 240k miles on it. I only drive it locally and rarely take on the freeway. 2005 E320 With the 4cylinder and a 5 speed auto. Car was previously used as a taxi, has almost 350000km on it, but it still runs strong. Bought at 275000, only major things that needed replacement apart from normal things like brakes, oil and tires were the AC compressor which gave out last year, a new battery a few years ago, and one time had to go to the dealership, it had some fault with the turbo, although it was less than 1000€ to fix.
I don't know if it's just a case of winning the lottery on this one, but unreliable this definitely isn't, it's also comfortable, no rattles, everything feels quality. One thing to look out for is the soft-touch plastic near the headlight knob, that likes to turn to a gooey and melty mess after some years.

@@saadgandapore It is hard to tell, i would say if the pre owner did his oil change properly (I do it every about 30000km), if the air suspension is working fine (if this car has air suspension), the interior if there is any damage, problem in this model is that mercedes saved a good amount of money on it (which actually don't bother me too much, but everyone is different), and the ball joints (a common issue), if they have a problem you will here it as their squeaking noises are quite annoying that's all I can tell. I know there some other issues that could be in this model, example is rust a common problem, but it didn't effected my car tbh that is all i can tell, maybe someone can complete some more information to this topic, cause this is only my experience

@aferran69 I am like 3rd owner but dad (pls don't judge me :) ) was 2nd so I'm including my dads issues too, I know that he changed the brakes at least one time, and when I got it we changed them a second about 1 year ago, we changed the whole air suspention (4 parts) one time and the compressor one time and the engine mount a 2nd time, and the abs sensor ring (idk if it is so called in english) that is basically about it and I need to change the ball joints, cause they re sometimes squeaking, quite annoying which i will do quite soon. It might sound like a joke but it is the reality, we might be pretty lucky with this car, but maybe this model is just solid

    • @davidalexandrowitsch4912
      @davidalexandrowitsch4912 Před 3 lety

@@saadgandapore If I can give you a hint about what annoys me the most are two things:
      1. The air suspension, is really nice I can tell, it is a lot of fun but also as horrible if it brakes cause it still can be quite expensive and it also happens quite random when you dont expect it and also just one side, so if I can give you a hint try to avoid it, I personaly think you dont really need it is just a good extra more or less you can have
      2. The electronic opening and closing tailgate. I can tell also a really nice feature you can have very pratical but with a cause off easily having issues not terrible like it could disable using your boot that shouldn't happen, but it is quite annoying. My car has an issues with his tailgate, that it sometimes won't close and go back up after pressing the button to close it, cause the electronics are sometimes going crazy and you end up closing it manually which sometimes won't solve the problem cause the computer doesn't regonize it as closed.
so my hint here is if you can get on without, go for it you dont really need it, it is cool but that's it
But that is my opinion do whatever you want :D

      Timin rattle upon start:
they used to have an oil check valve to feed chain tensioner but they kept it out during production so you can get "check-valve kit" added as a repair when rattle shows up ✌️

I think the key with buying a 211 is not necessarily to buy one after 2006. Many of the earlier models that are out there for sale have already issues like the idler puller and balance shaft addressed by now, and at least here in the US, the SBC issues are covered under warranty by Mercedes for 25 years after original purchase date. Also a good idea to stay away from models that have airmatic suspension or consider a coil over conversion.

Hi I own a '03 example. Well make sure that the interior buttons still work fine because many of them fail to operate when they reach this age. Say for example, my AC fan speed buttons now require me to apply more force to press them. So sometimes it is a pain in the ass to adjust the fan speed but I've gotten used to it. As of the CD changer, don't fill up all six slots because I had mine jammed up due to that. Also the SBC brake pump may need to be replaced when u acquire an E240, because we got ours last year and it failed within the first year of ownership. I'm not sure how much the SBC brake pump's gonna in your country, but in Malaysia it costs MYR5,000.
Back to interior stuffs, the plastic mouldings that surround the front seats may crack in some cases, so be prepared for it to happen. My rear cabin interior lights isn't working too so rear passengers don't get any form of illumination at night. Brief overview but hope that helps.

The only major issue I have had is when I had a recent inspection at the Mercedes dealer and they fortunately found and repaired a fuel leak. Can't say enough good things about this vehicle. Sir ,with all the respect, you forgot to mention the Bosch SBC electro hydraulic pump unit , which is the braking system of the whole car , and in the W211 series 2003 - 2006 tends to fail very often and in low mileage , which that means that you don`t have almost no braking power in a car that weighs over 1.6 tons minimum , so i don`t understand why you have not mentioned it in detail since it is a buying review guide, and you just saying only " sensitivity in the braking system " , the W211 2003 - 2006 is using brake by wire system which that means that the brake pedal works like a switch , it only sends the signal of how hard and with what pressure you are pushing the braking pedal , and it sends the command to the Sensotronic Brake Control unit which in turn applies and adjust the right amount of pressure needed through the braking system to brake the wheels of the car .
So for me it is a big miss that you have not mentioned it, because it is a red flag if that unit fails , and depends on the country you are , fixing it , repairing, or replacing it it`s not an easy task, and by all means not an economically viable solution , so yeah i could say that you could dedicate 30 seconds or so from the total running time of your video to inform the viewers or the future buyers of a used W211 for this specific issue which in turn could easily be a major safety defect if the unit fails while at speed in a highway, or in whatever condition the car is in even at low speeds.
I own a W211 E200 1.8 kompressor 2004 , and the SBC pump unit has failed , and the car is standing still for many weeks, with no braking power , there is no use for it, so i am still awaiting for the workshop to find a solution, or an used SBC unit in a good condition , because if bought new the unit costs from 2000 to 3000 euros plus more all the labor charges and the cost of the procedure through using the official dealer diagnostic software STAR, XENTRY, to install it and make it work with the car. So my opinion is that is mandatory if not obligatory before you buy a W211 2003 - 2006 model year , a pre inspection check with an official diagnostic is required to avoid unpleasant surprises , and big repair bills from the workshop.
The W211 facelift version so that means after 2006 with the different bumper was not using anymore the SBC unit at all , but instead it had a conventional braking system like all the cars , after many complaints for failing SBC units worldwide the past 3 years from the customers.

I repair and restore old mercedes cars (up to W204 and W212). I can tell you the 200kompressor and 220cdi are the best engines in w211. Chose the automatic transmition, its tempting to get a manual but beleave me every one of theme i restored with manual trans had a floating flywhele destroyed. If you are looking for a preformance car i recommend E320CDI that engine is bulet proof i had one for restoration and whoaa it had 1200450km in 6 computers (Its hard as fuck to hide the real odometer value)
