    Airmatic suspension isn’t complicated and parts are much cheaper now plus the installs are not hard. I believe people who own these cars should do their research to learn they cars.

      You said it right!I have nothing more to add.Perhaps one thing:people who teach us about the costly airmatic,usually don´t own an airmatic car.

      @@matsujarvinen I completely agree with your approach. Some stupid people also throw away that airmatic system to install standard dampers ( or shock absorbers) when they discover a leak on one of them or when only the pomp needs to be changed : too expensive for some wallets ! During a few years, MB borrowed and paid Citroën to adapt, develop and use the system on their own cars. But later, Citroën totally abandonned the best suspension system for cars that André Citroën invented more than 75 years ago . If he knew that, he would die a second time ! Money becomes more important than security and comfort ! ? ! Very sad ! Only DIY people can maintain their Benz for cheap ! 2020-05-9. Tchotto on the Net . Cheers. --

    Yeah I’ve already had to do my intake manifold. A shop quoted me 1700 I got one off Amazon for 250 and did it myself. A couple more things is the fuel pump gasket “ you’ll start smelling gas in your cab” and the brown wire in the trunk. The brown wire in your trunk will break just from opening and closing so many times you’ll know when it says your license plate lights are out, but an easy splice. 👍🏼

    I have a 2005 E500. I love the car. Take reasonable care and they last a long time. I bought it with in 2015 with 116K miles and it has 248K miles on it now. Replaced front and rear air shocks. Replaced power steering pump. SBC accumulator was replaced under warranty. One issue I didn't see mentioned that I think is somewhat common is the duo-valve for heating the rear passenger space. Mine failed and would blow full heat to the rear even with AC on. Replacement is not too difficult. Other replacements have been pretty minor/typical for a car with 248K miles (brake rotors, various front suspension components, ignition coils, spark plugs, drive belt & pully, etc.) The dynamic seats leak so they no longer work. Would love to fix them, but does not seem simple.

    Air matic lines will leak from age, not by a pump going bad. Air pump goes bad normally from people not correcting strut or valve block problems when recommend (the pump will be working over time and burn out). Arknot makes an excellent aftermarket strut that is a fraction of the price.V8s do not have a balance shaft, only an idler gear, and doesn't require a full engine tare down (neither does the v6 require full tare down, but the v6 is a pos and not worth fixing). Beware of aftermarket cam position sensors. A lot of them are trash. Intake manifold will never throw a CEL. As for the rear privacy screen, just decide if you want it up or down and leave it alone. Most of these problems occur in early production models.
    Ooo and keep the water drains clear of debris or water gets in the car and can ruin your front or rear SAM (expensive to replace)
    And the drive belt problems on all models. If you dont keep up with the pulleys your looking at a break down when the belt breaks after one of the multiple pulleys seize.

    • @supermang7751
      @supermang7751 Před 4 lety +1

      @Izzy rod biggest issue I've seen with those models is the trans cooler which will leak trans fluid into your radiator and the transmission. Open your coolant reservoir. Make sure all you see is coolant. Service the trans and make sure what drains out doesn't look like a strawberry milkshake.

    Thank you... I just had the intake manifold flap issue in my (loved) 2005 W211 E350 Avantgarde. My mechanical shop first tried to replace the flap system inside the manifold with an upgraded metallic part, which would have avoided replacing the entire intake manifold. Unfortunately no go--after resorting to drill out of the flap supports it became obvious that the only option was to replace the intake manifold assembly--OUCH, that was expensive. Also, early on in my affair with the car the gas fume problem arose... leading to a fuel tank replacement (they tried two used tanks before finding one that was OK). My car has only done 100,000 km (around 60,000 USA miles) and I've not yet had the dreaded balance shaft check engine light :-) I note you mention regular service in relation to prevention of this this frightening problem . I oil change with synthetic oil and new filter every 6 months and I only do extremely low kilometres... A recent problem I had was a check engine light which codes showed was related to failed catalytic convertors (there are four of them and I paid $600 Australian a piece including labour to chop 'em out and re-weld new units in...) Thanks for your experience, much appreciate it! Oh! BTW, we in Australia don't get any help from the balance shaft USA class action law suit, nor from the issue you mention with the SBC brake-by-wire system (a braking technology which I personally really enjoy).

    Thank you for your valuable video :-) Three years after leaving a previous comment, I wonder if you, or other experts, have any more info about the root cause of balance shaft drive gear failure on early W211 272 V6 engines like mine.
    In the USA class action lawsuit, it was claimed by MB that the root cause of failure of the balance shaft gear's drive teeth was a supplier who used a defective metal tempering process on the drive gear, leading to failure of the gear, possible engine damage and a huge repair bill when most cars had reached about 60,000 miles (100,000 kilometers).
    At 01:57 you potentially attribute failure of the balance shaft drive gear (teeth wearing away almost completely) to improper maintenance. I've now driven 110,000 km and change oil and filter six-monthly using synthetic oil--so far without any problems or engine codes--touch wood!
    So, how do experienced people now feel re whether this is an issue caused by poor maintenance practices versus it being due to a manufacturing defect of the drive gear, as claimed by MB USA?

I was also told that only about 20 percent of the pre-facelift models had that issue anyway as Mercedes sourced the wrong metal for the sprocket. The metal was too soft and will wear out prematurely usually between 40-80K miles, but there are exceptions, I've seen it pop up on cars with as much as 150k on them. I have an 06 E350 with 225K miles on it, never had a balance shaft issue. Dude you forgot one major issue that affects the earlier W211 think it's from 2002 to 2008 and that is the sbc brake system it's a pig of a thing mind you I have driven a 2009 standard abs vs my 2005 Sbc the sbc is amazing at stopping such a large vehicle in such little time. I love my W211 I have it 14 year's rarely drive it with the cost and amount of fuel it uses. One other issue with all W211 is the steel brake line's under the plastic splash plates under the car they get pretty bad if your in rust belt. Oh and those frigging ball joints what are they made of plastic I've done 280000 miles on mine over the year's. Ball joints and those abs ring's not for the fainthearted.

UGH! Unbelievable!! So I have to stop on the road wherever I am to perform this? Man I argued and argued then he finally relented and so it was changed under warranty. To keep it functioning properly the trick is to ( so I am told) operate the shade at least once a week. It is rather complicated to fix but I suppose it is possible. SBC is warranteed for 25 years so if that issue occurs bring the car to the dealer and they will do the $2-3000 hib for free. If the problem happens and you're not near the dealer, the local mechanic can do the job but make sure he gets the SBC unit at the dealer with a receipt and you pay him for that job and get a detailed receipt. Then present that receipt with your car to the dealer. The dealer then will "check" to make sure the work was done to factory standards and if so, MB will reimburse the full cost of the parts and labor. Takes about one month to get your check. Then you or whomever owns the car later is warranteed for another 25 years from that installation date for that part.

      I just switched up Les, I agree with you they are nice cars but need to much work to enjoy. My last few months of ownership I barley drove the car worrying about creating new issues. New car reveal coming soon.
