I was actually discussing this with myself the other day. Because I will correct people on their incorrect usage of words. No one ever likes it (I'm the only person who seems to want to learn and not take it personally) but I hate this disregard for language. It's extremely important. The reason I started thinking about this was that I saw an argument about the words "prejudice" and "racism" and it really shows how much our language was been muddied. Different words are different for a reason. And Google loves to play around with definitions. Even if they are synonymous, they don't mean the exact same thing. And don't even get me started on "yoU'Re CoMPariNG ApPlES to oRAngeS."
I mostly don't use the first result on google when defining a word but I think this time it works.
Comparison: a consideration or estimate of the similarities or dissimilarities between two things or people
Apples: sweet, red, tough, bigger than the orange, fruit

I'm 69 yrs old. I recall reading 1984 as a young adult, and it completely blew my mind. I was just begining to look at the world in relation to myself and my country. It gave me a sense of dread but also helped me realize the importance of studying history and also questioning history. If we don't know our history, then we are doomed to repeat it. Also, there are so many books that are not being studied in our schools, I feel that this generation is much more poorly educated than we ever were.

I used to pray, go to church, but I always felt like there is nothing to it. It was boring to me so they encouraged me to listen what the priest is saying. So I did listen, I started to understand, I've read decent chunk of bible during that time and soon I realized the obvious. It's just a scam. I started forming my own opinions and got deeply annoyed by entire philosophy of Christianity. By the age of 16 I wanted to leave. I don't believe in anything now, no hope is better than false hope. I still like to trigger strong believers when they became disrespectful towards me for not believing by reciting random chapters of bible and explaining how some books make zero sense or are just bizarre. They usually realize I read the book unlike them and shut up. For the record I mean no disrespect towards anyone who believes. Even that is off. It was about what WAS happening at the time, mainly about Russia and other places like it. Orwell was a proud socialist, but he saw what Stalin tried to claim socialism to be and Orwell saw it to be false. Hence, the passages about Ingsoc claiming to be socialist while opening fighting against what socialism stood for. It wasn't a warning! Nor was it a prophecy! It was SATIRE! It was about what's happening then and, since we continued to believe that it didn't apply to us but rather some far off future, what's still happening right now. The same is true of Brave New World, which was about capitalism and how it promotes vanity in order to distract from its problems (1920s, about how companies were taking over the world and the party centric nature of youth). A Handmaid's Tale is about religious extremism taking over government (80s era religious fundamentalism in the US replacing the then-newly established religious monarchies in the Middle East). Fahrenheit 451 is about how media that goes against the status quo gets banned from schools and replaced by televised propaganda (50s era McCarthyism censoring anything they saw to be even remotely progressive or politically odd and the rise of TV, the most censored medium in history).
To hammer in this point, 1984 was not originally called 1984. They had to change the name because it wouldn't make sense for a book that would get published in 1949...
      1948.

Since I was a child in the 70's, my Grandfather used to tell me about this book. He used to always tell me that this is not fiction, it's insight. My Grandma used to laff when he spoke of how the Author "knew things" & how the Government was the most dangerous Syndicate in the world. He wasn't Anti-America by any means. He was so proud to be an American Citizen, after coming from Sicily originally. He was an MP during WWII, and had some great stories from Japan & from life on the huge ship crossing oceans. But of all his amazing stories, I was the most focused when he spoke of this stuff. A common phrase in my house was ".. Big Brother is watching".
If you have never read the book, please do. Especially if you're a 70's or 80's kid, cuz you will see that it's like a blueprint for what was Future at that time, but is now Present Day.

Next time someone asks me why I don't want to have children, I'll refer them to this video. Who would be happy knowing that their child, who never asked for this world, has to face this new world for the rest of their life. I see it as a curse, but I am aware of it, therfore I'll end this curse. Brilliant video ❤

You won the race as a sperm. You wanted to be here.
Also need to raise children to understand this. Just allowing people who are indoctrinated to have children leads to these situations.

@@alexdetrojan4534 honestly I'm happy for you though. I'm actually not someone who forces my beliefs and feelings on people. Of course I'll express it. But ultimately it's up to you. All I ask from people who plan to be parents is for them to give their all to ensure that their child are loved and taught important lessons to one day face this world on their own once again. And that parents do it together as a team, not the one pulling their weight more than the other. They don't ask to be hear is what I want people to understand. So at least make it worth being here. Set them up for a life worth living. My mission while I am here is to promote and abide by God's 10 Commandments. To promote peace, love and respect. To aspire to be a blessing in every life I touch. Basically to ensure I treat people the way I wish to be treated. I believe if we all can focus on that, that we can change this selfish world.
