    Cressy has been a wonderful surprise this season! Played three tournaments so far reaching a final, quarterfinal, and now manages to be competitive with Medvedev at the Australian Open 4th round. He might be this year’s Karatsev, popping up out of nowhere for some big results.

    Medvedev was clearly not having it with Cressy's serve-and-volley technique in this match, lol. Regardless though, I'm glad he managed to get his head together and finish the job.

    It’s refreshing to see a serve and volley player who rushes the net at every opportunity. He surprised Rafa two weeks ago and Medvedev today. Medvedev, like Rafa, is too composed and even losing a set didn’t rattle him. AO is Medvedev’s to lose. His next opponent, Felix, has been playing very well since the start of the ATP Cup about 3 weeks ago.

    Medvedev had to move closer on the return to neutralize Cressy’s S&V. And he did in 4th set. From other hand, Cressy had to move further 1 or 2 feet from baseline on return and … he didn’t. That’s difference in the adaptability during the match was the key.

    Credit th Daniil for finally figuring it out in the end of 4th set by coming in closer to return Cressy's serve this robbing him time. Good Problem Solve will serve him well instead of immature and classless complaining about Cressey being "lucky".

    I thought Maxime Cressy played really well against Rafa in the 2022 Melbourne Summer Set 2 Final and wasn't surprised to see him winning against Isner but what surprised me and I wasn't expecting was such a gutsy fight from Cressy considering Medvedev is currently in super form. • @chubun6631
    @chubun6631 Před 2 lety +2

    The main problem with S&V is how to get breaks. In the past players can chip and charge, rally and approach, ... and get chances on his opponent's serve. Nowadays, they are just pinned back at the baseline where the other guy will have the upper hand. So even when they can take care of the S&V part, they often can't do much damages on the opponent's serves. The set often goes to 6-6 at best like in this match and they are like to lose in the long run. Another problem is S&V requires explosive power. As we know it's easier to run 6 miles at 10 mins/mile compared to run one mile at 5 mins/mile then the next at 15 mins/mile and so on, even though it will take 1hour to finish on both cases. I think it's the reason Cressy took so much time on his serves. He knew if he did really well, this would go a long way and he might run out of gas.
