I'm a Texas grandmother who just started following cricket a couple of years ago. Mr. Fry, to tear up at that memory isn't insane at all. I did, too. I understand (as much as I am able) how important the Ashes is, and I appreciate what an accomplishment that was for Flintoff. It was glorious indeed. I get it. I totally get it.

One of my favorite people talking about another one of my favorite people! I wish we could see cricket in the U.S. I had to learn the "outline" of the game after I saw Andrew Flintoff on Graham Norton. (I still have to guess about many things but there is enough on CZcams to start catching on.) Flintoff is amazing and there is just such joy in the way he played. Thank you, Mr. Fry!

I've watched Stephen Fry's whole career with relish. He's someone I completely respect and admire. It's great he's so passionate about cricket. He totally gets what is beautiful about the game & it's incomprehensibility to non - cricket fans. Be great to see his thoughts on Shane Warne.
I'm sure those who don't watch cricket won't understand this, and think this is some blubbering fool shedding tears over a silly sport played by posh old timers.
If you're reading this and you don't watch Test cricket, and don't understand why Stephen would tear up - next opportunity you get, watch a Test match. Have the rules up on your phone, listen to the commentary, and try and build your understanding of the game over the five days. At first it'll bewilder you, but slowly you'll get there. And bit by bit, you'll give a little fist pump for a wicket, or a boundary. And then you'll think, "damn, that was good", and you'll watch another. And another.
And one day, you'll join Stephen and the rest of us in a truly great Test moment, and you'll have tears in your eyes. And then you'll understand.

I have followed test cricket for years and years, and the Ashes is simply a magnificent contest..I love watching every 2 years, but trying to explain the concept of Ashes cricket to my neighbours is proving pointless as I live in Los Angeles and Americans just do not get it!!
That English side is so underrated. This team could beat any side in the world. They took the no.1 rank from India and being an Indian I must say 'they deserved it'

I lived and worked in India for 20yrs and well understand the love of cricket in your fantastic country. In 20yrs over there I never received anything but friendship from Indian people and there will always be a part of India in my soul! Bharat Mera Dil me hai! Jai Hind!
@@stevebrindle1724 I have always loved Freddie and his passion for the game. I still remember he gave up his career at the cost of 2009 ashes and believe me he could give his life too. That English side comprising of cook, Strauss, bell, Trott, Pietersen, Freddie, Collingwood, Anderson, broad and Swann were as dominant as a side could get. Cricket used to be a different game in that era.

It seems very strange for me, for Stephen it’s so much important, that for me it very strange game at all, that because I from country where cricket is not popular, such as in England. But I was surprised by seeing crowds anthems and how adult man tiers about that, I want to try cricket but there isn’t team to play with in my city.
