I really like your reactions. Thoughtful, informed comments. And it cracks me up. You'll frequently say something along the lines of "I've probably got this wrong" et al. The funny thing as far as I can tell is you've generally gotten things right. A couple of thoughts on this performance-which I genuinely love. Mikio-black guitar on the left was Takashi's -pink guitar-mentor. Some people-I think rather dismissively-speak about the greatness of the Kami Band, while somewhat dismissing the Babymetal ladies. I'd like to point out that as great as Kami are look at the size venue the music business puts simply great musicians in and these gents are great. It's just an unfortunate way of the music business works. I read once-I'll have to paraphrase a bit here: That Su and the ladies said "We love the Kami band. When we performed we always felt they were back there supporting and protecting us." The Kami Band has said "We love the girls. Because of them we have gotten out of Japan, gotten to tour the world and play in stadiums." p.s.Stu Hamm and Billy Sheehan between them have probably played with half the prog/fusion and rock musicians in the world.

Thanks for that, honestly, and I'm glad you've got some knowledge of the bassists I mentioned (probably more than me!) I agree that the Kami band and the ladies need to be looked at synergistically, and they are both fantastic in their respective areas of performance. I think that for me, if it seems that I'm dismissing the ladies - or at least not giving them same props as I am the Kami band - it's because I play guitar and have a lot more understanding of their skills and what they are actually doing, then I really do of singing and choreography. So while I really do like and appreciate the ladies, I can't really APPRECIATE what they're doing, if that makes sense. I think I even mention in this reaction that I can't really comment on drumming like I do guitar, since I've never even really picked up a stick! Same would go for piano and other instruments. I don't know if that's true for others, but I think that's kind of my view. There are things I like, and things I can intimately understand, but I'll try to make sure I give more props to the ladies in any case!

@@DadDaughtersandDrinksThank you for your very generous response to my comment. I really wasn't trying to point a finger at you. There are some reactors who are overtly dismissive of the ladies which-obviously-bugs me. What I've appreciated about your reactions is how balanced and thoughtful they are. Putting a comment like mine under your reaction I can see now how you could feel like that was directed at you and it really wasn't. I think you do a really good job-as mentioned. I wish some others could be as thoughtful and observant in the way that you are. Sorry for any misunderstanding about that.

This performance was a Takayoshi Ohmura show from like 2014-15. Mikio Fujioka and Hideki Aoyama were guest during the show. Aoyama is using Yuya Maeta's drum kit (who was a Kami member in 2014) Both guitarist are using 7 strings. BOH's Bass frets are also scalloped. This song was performed at a Babymetal show (Yokohama 2015 - 1st night) with Isao doing his own part as Ohmura was off that night (Ohmura was there the other night) . Only fan cam of it exist. After Fujioka's passing.. Ohmura inherited much of Mikio's equipment including his Kemper Profiler and both of signature guitars (Esp Snapper 6 & 7 Burgundy Mist). BOH received his Wah petal. Eventhough Ohmura has multiple signature guitars, he uses Mikio's guitar at Babymetal and other events. Also incorporates using the whammy bar because of Mikio's extensive use of it for tones and harmonics. As the East Kamis have not played for Babymetal since January 2023, Ohmura has been playing with Mikio's Guitar for Taiwanese pop artist A-Mei.

Excellent, thanks for finding and reacting to this. I see you have already seen the later emotional tribute performance with Takayoshi playing Mikio's guitar and had all the explanations about the song title change and why, how one of BOH's bass playing heroes is Billy Sheehan (I saw a photo of them meeting some time ago).
I think the 'solo' in the title of this video refers to it being Takayoshi's own solo show where he would have invited his friends and other musicians to appear as his guests throughout the evening.
    RIP Mikio.😢

    Great reaction, thanks!
They are (in order of the solos): Mikio Fujioka, Takayoshi Ohmura, Daisuke Bohte aka BOH and Hideki Aoyama.
This is an original song by Ohmura and it was originally called “The Gathering of Metal Warriors” but he changed it to "The Hill of Wisteria" as a tribute to Mikio after his untimely passing, since his last name's kanjis mean: 藤 (Fuji) = Wisteria and 岡 (Oka) = Hill.
We will never forget Mikio. It was a great loss. RIP Ko-Gami.

The Gathering of Metal Warriors show was January 9, 2016 at Club 1ne2wo. "The Gathering of Metal Warriors" wasn't the title of the song but of the entire show. When Ohmura put out the setlist of that show, the song was identified simply as "Solo Regular". On the setlists of some of BM's autumn 2015 shows the song title "The Hill of Wisteria" appears (although Ohmura at the time referred to the song variously as "Kami Band New Song" or "Kami Band Solo" or "Kami Band Performance"). When Ohmura's dual disc album "Cerberus" was issued in Jan. 2017, with the entire "Gathering" show included, the song's name was "Hill of Wisteria". Which is to say, the song was named "Hill of Wisteria" before Mikio Fujioka died. I met Mikio Fujioka several times and went to many of his club gigs. Huge loss . . .

@@road-runner Two points about the song in question:
      1) It's title was never "The Gathering of the Metal Warriors". That was the name of the show.
      2) It's title became "The Hill of Wisteria" before Fujioka died. That is, the title is a tribute paid by Ohmura to his mentor Fujioka before Fujioka died, not after he died.
      - As I say above, on Ohmura's album "Cerberus", released January 2017, the song is titled "Hill of Wisteria.
      - Also above, in the setlists for some of Babymetal's concerts in the autumn of 2015 "Hill of Wisteria" appears (although it's possible those setlists date to later than 2015 or were updated after 2015 or 2017).
      - Further, the guitarist Francesco Fareri attended the Tokyo Music Fair in November 2016 and played a session with Ohmura at the ESP event there, and they played "Hill of Wisteria" under that title. Fareri has that on y t from 2017 (I think March, when I have time I'll check the exact date).
      - Personally, I recall hearing Ohmura refer to the song as "Hill of Wisteria" at a couple of his clubs gigs in 2017 but I don't clearly remember which gigs, as I had no reason at the time to particularly remember the gigs with that song. I think one of the gigs was his annual birthday show with Gacharic Spin, as the Kami/Kari Band played in that show in 2017. (This was a few days before Fujioka had his accident-actually it's the last show he played before he died.)
Let me ask you, what is your source for the information that the song was named "Hill of Wisteria" after Fujioka died?

Well, I guess we know what your next reaction has to be, BabyMetal's early/mid era masterpiece, Rondo Of Nightmare w/ Mischiefs of Metal Gods Intro (Live At Budokan Black Night). W/ it's revolving time signatures (played on a revolving stage no less), we are treated to to each player taking their turn in the spotlite. Then the Queen raises up towards Heaven (both physically and vocaly) to mesmerize us. Composistion-wise, it is, along w/ Tales Of The Destinies, probably BM's most complex piece.
I might as well mention the third song that completes, IMO, their grand trifecta, their new era masterpiece, From Dusk Til Dawn.(Budokan 2021)
If I was stranded on a desert Isle and could only listen to three BM songs, it would be these three.

  • @Icipher353
    @Icipher353 Před 5 měsíci +8

The song they played was originally called "The Gathering of Metal Warriors", but Takayoshi Ohmura renamed the song in honor of Mikio, who was his friend and mentor. The name "The Hills of Wisteria" is a reference to Mikio's surname Fujioka (藤岡) which means 藤 = wisteria, 岡 = hill.
The fact that the Kami Band are masked these days at Babymetal shows is a source of constant annoyance to fans, who wish that we could see the Kami and have them be more a part of the show like they used to, but since the introduction of the Kami Band of the West, it seems to be a creative decision by Koba to keep them anonymous even though the fans know exactly who everyone is.
The Kami Band use some pretty cool guitars, both with Babymetal and without. When playing for Babymetal, they tend to use seven or eight string guitars, such at Takayoshi's custom ESP Snapper-7 you see in this video, known as "Pink Chan". One of Babymetal's other guitarists, Isao Fujita, who doesn't feature in this performance, regularly plays an eight string for Babymetal, usually an ESP E-II Snapper-8 or an ESP E-II HRF FR-8B. BOH always plays a AtelierZ Beta 6 "BOH's Custom" six string bass.
There is actually another version of this song with lyrics, that was released in early 2023, that features Isao and some of Mikio's other friends from other bands such as Toki from C4. In this formation they call themselves the MLG Avengers (MLG = My Little God, which is a references to Mikio, who was known as "Kogami" = the little god). It's an amazing performance in it's own right. It's not on youtube however; the only place I have found it is on Rumble: rumble.com/v26be7y-hill-of-wisteria-mlg-avengers-vocal-version.html

I think there is a bit of a misunderstanding. The term "solo" is not referring to a "guitar solo", but rather a "solo show". A "one night only" type show. Takayoshi Ohmura has his own band and this particular night he had MANY guest musicians play. Just wanted to clear that up.

Hell yeah dude! The OG Kami Band is so talented. The song is called The Hill of Wisteria, and I believe is written by Takayoshi Ohmura.
He’s the one with the pink glam custom ESP called “Pink Chan”. He is also the understudy of Mikio, who’s on the black guitar. Moa from Babymetal also took some guitar lessons from him too. Mikio is such a virtuoso, and despite leaving us so young, he definitely gave us all so much joy from his music.
Boh on the 6-string bass said Billy Sheehan was one of his inspirations, IIRC. And drummer Hideki is the son of another famous drummer, and is a speed drummer freak of nature with incredible endurance. Hideki is currently playing for the B’z, kind of like a “Bruce Springsteen” of Japan.
You should check out the tribute version of this song to Mikio. Hard to find, but very emotional. Same song, just w/o Mikio, and Takayoshi crying as he shreds on stage using Mikio’s guitar given to him by Mikio’s wife after his passing. RIP Mikio😢

    👍 👍 - Great reaction.
I am seeing more and more reactors who are knowledgeable about musicianship watching these virtuosos doing instrumental concerts (such as this one). Doing so out of not only respect for their abilities but also just to see them in a different environment.
Mikio as you say tragically passed away due to an accident (an avid star gazer he fell from an observation platform succumbing to his injuries later). He left behind a wife and child.
I am going to get into some speculation territory here (as Amuse keeps everything pretty secretive it is difficult to separate rumor from fact). Many people who follow the Babymetal backstory much more than I have said that The Trilogy of Lights (especially Starlight LIVE and Shine LIVE were dedicated to both Mikio and Yui (Yui is also an avid stargazer - the lyrics "like a stargazer" in Starlight LIVE allude to this).
The first LIVE performance of Shine (I believe) has only Suzuka and Moa onstage as a tribute - kind of like the missing fighter aircraft in a military flyover honoring a fellow pilot killed in combat or accident (again speculation here).
It should also be noted that in that first performance Moa is "playing" an acoustic guitar. I put the word playing in parentheses because (more speculation) she wanted the performance to go perfectly and was nervous about playing it LIVE so had recorded it and was simulating the playing to her original backtrack. Moa can play the guitar. The way she caresses the guitar during some of the choreography does seem to signify a profound loss.
It seems (to me anyway) that after Mikio's passing that the Kami Band East has lost a spark. It only makes sense as these guys are very close and by all accounts love and respect these young ladies for their talent, hard work m, dedication and humble nature (as it appears everyone else who comes in contact with them).
There is a reactor (Alan) who is a musician and reacts sometimes with his band mates on the reactor channel - Dicodec (named after their band) who along with his friend and fellow band mate Eric have become avid fans of Babymetal (Alan recently had the opportunity to meet and interview Babymetal - twice thus far) and comments on the professionalism and character of the ladies. He mentions that both times he was awestruck and the events seemed surreal. You can check out his channel and see the fascinating segments.
