Mikio Fujioka-sama is already a legend, he passed away so young, such a huge lost for the Kami Band and BabyMetal team.
Takayoshi Ohmura was his pupil, he's super talented since he was a toddler, a prodigious musician, also got a huge fanbase among the girls lol
Daisuke Bohte (aka BOH) is the natural leader, he's a beast on bass, he always remind me Flea from RHCP because of the style of having fun and dancing up on the stage.
Hideki Aoyama came from drummers family legacy, his father and brother played the drums too, sadly they passed away, another recently tragedies we hope don't continue on BabyMetal members.
Ohmura and BOH often do livestreams with Mikio's photo to remember him and pay some honor respect forever, after Mikio's pass away he inherited all their guitars. His classic guitar is called "pink-chan".

Mikio, also known as kokami or kogami (little god, because of his height) died when having 36 yo after trying to recovering from serious injuries by falling from a stargazer, just a few days after 2018 started. The official Babymetal twitter account posted this:
_"The "Little" Guitar Kami of BABYMETAL's Kamiband has passed away in the METAL GALAXIES. We hope that he is now with his GUITAR MASTER. A. Holdsworth and enjoying an epic guitar session with him."_
      "We are the one
      Together
      We're the only one
      You are the one
      Forever"
      *RIP THE ONE*
In 2018 we got another huge lost, YuiMetal announced her withdrawal officially in Octuber 2018, the same day they released _Starlight_ a new song. In 2019 Babymetal release their 3rd album with a more mature content songs and the final 3 songs are called officially by KobaMetal *Trilogy Of Lights* , those songs are: _Starlight, Shine, Arkadia_ i highly recommend you those songs in that order. Among fans we took this as an unofficial tribute for Mikio-sama and YuiMetal, hope you can enjoy those songs like we do. Kitsune up \m/

I don't think Taka ended up with all of Mikio's guitars. There is only one that is ever mentioned. And it's one of the ones that he always used at BabyMetal shows. Which btw. Taka brings with him to every BM show.

That's a classic Kami Band lineup with Takayoshi Ohmura, Mikio Fujioka (RIP), BOH and Hideki Aoyama.
Guitarist Leda Cygnus has also been in the mix since 2013.
Although he has played with BABYMETAL since 2015, ISAO only became a regular Kami Band member in 2018 after Mikio passed away.
In addition to these "Kamis From the East", BABYMETAL added the 'Kamis From the West" in 2019 for their US tour.
They are Chris Kelly (guitar), CJ Masciantonio (guitar), Clint Tustin (bass) and Anthony Barone (drums).
The first three might be best known as members of 'Galactic Empire', although Tustin played guitar in that group instead of bass.
Anthony Barone is probably best known from his time in the American deathcore band 'Shadow of Intent'.

This is from a New Year's Day concert from like 2015. It's a Takayoshi Ohmura concert. In the show Mikio and Hideki were guest. I am surprised that you were surprised that there was a 6-string bass. From your Babymetal reactions I am sure you must have seen it before. The drum kit that Hideki use it is not his. Yuya Maeta was the drummer for the show. He was a babymetal drummer during 2014 filling in for Hideki. He is also in the Kari Band that was started by BOH and Mikio. The song was named "Hill of Wisteria" after Mikio's passing in honor of him, since that is the meaning of his last name.

If you want to see more of this, try to find a copy of full length CD "Takayoshi Ohmura: Devils in the Dark - Final edition". It has a DVD with full live show "The Chronicle of Metal Lovers"
He also released a mini-CD called "Cerberus" with 6 cover songs (Metallica, Megadeath, Evanescene, Arch Enemy, Dream Theater, Dokken) this also came with a DVD of the full show of "The Gathering of metal Warriors".
    Both are pure joy.

Takayoshi Ohmura and SAKI from Nemophila/Mary's Blood are the shred god and goddess.
Don't know if anyone said it before, but the song was named "Hills of Wisteria" after Fujioka Mikio's passing. It's a tribute to him, because the Kanji in Fujioka are 藤 (Fuji) = Wisteria and 岡 (oka) = Hill.

  • @DarthHunter5
    @DarthHunter5 Před 2 lety +11

Mikio and Takayoshi have a very interesting picking style (called circle picking), where they only move their thumbs and index fingers when shredding (and you know how they shred). If you ever want a technique challenge on your guitar, that's a really interesting one to learn.

As a few have mentioned, Mikio Fujioka-sensei was a teacher at musicians institute (think Berklee on steroids). Apart from Takayoshi Ohumura his students include ISAO and Leda (both Kamis) Tomo-Zo (Gacharic Spin/Doll$boxx), Shiren (Unlucky Morpheus) and a whole bunch of the very elite metal guitarists of Japan . The funny thing is that Mikio himself wasn't primarily a metal guitarist. His main thing was fusion and jazz. I've mer more than a few guitarists that has said that Mikio is one of the best and most creative guitarists of all time. To name a few, Fredrik Thordendal (Mehuggah) John Norum (Europe) and Jojje Wadenius (ABBA, Blood, Sweat & Tears and a whole lot of things. He has played with just about every jazz musician you can think of).
Mikio wasn't a great guitarist, he was a genius. If he wouldn't have wanted to stay at home with his family he could have played with anyone he wanted around the globe. Instead he chose to stay in Osaka so he could help his parents in their small store and do the occasional gig with his students and...Babymetal (?!) How that happen we'll never know, but having a musician like him involved is almost as crazy as the whole Babymetal concept.

    • @CHRISCONTEPSS
      @CHRISCONTEPSS Před 2 lety +8

COOL! Thanks nonmusician for extra info. I knew Mikio taught Ohmura for a while, but I did not know he also worked with the other three. I suppose "taught" is appropriate as he was a professor at the institute so I'm sure they all had classes with him. But when Taka and KoGami harmonize there is just something special happening. . .like they played together for countless hours before they were even in the band together. Like Taka studied with Mikio privately perhaps before Omuhra entered the institute? LMK if you know about that.
As legend has it, Omuhra was hired for Kami-band and made Koba aware of Mikio. In fact it was said he insisted on Mikio being brought on board. :)
After Mikio's death they did that benefit show to raise money for Mikio's wife and (2) I think daughters. They were holding that show every year apparently until . . . .the pandemic. You are probably also aware Mikio's parents organic grocery store was not going to make it through the quarantine, so Taka and friends set up a delivery logistic and a website so they could survive financially. They made it known through the music seen and apparently many many musicians bought all their produce from there throughout the lock downs! Apparently, among the very first few orders the day it opened were members of Band-Maid! When I think of all these great musicians coming together to honor Mikio by helping to support his family . . .I start to tear up! True expression of The ONe!
      RIP Kogami! Kitsunes up! 🤘🦊🤘

As you already know about Mikio Fujioka's passing, maybe you're interested in seeing the other 3 members (Takayoshi Ohmura, BOH, and Hideki Aoyama) play the same song as a tribute to him after he passed away. Here's a clip: czcams.com/video/a4-WF3Su3sI/video.html (the audio is a bit out of sync though, probably due to copyright reasons). In here, since Mikio is gone, they are playing a backtrack of Mikio's playing in his solo part. You will see them pour their emotions in playing each of their solos. Takayoshi here is using Mikio's signature guitar which is really heart-warming and heart-breaking at the same time. All of the revenue here went to Mikio's family. Check it out in the future if you want!

@@WavePotter Apparently Mikio fell off a high observation platform at an observatory whilst stargazing. He was in a coma fighting for his life for about a week before he passed. There isn't any more info than that.
It truly is very sad. . .
Following his death, Omuhra and Bohte organized a big benefit memorial show in his honor. Many Many Japanese musicians and bands participate (free or very reduced fees I imagine) as all the proceeds (and merch revenue) go to support Mikio's wife and daughters and fund their education. *There is a video of them doing this song without Mikio :( at that first show floating around. It was taken down for a while, but its back up I think.
      It is a MUST SEE!!!!!~!!
Mikio's wife gave Omuhra Mikio's signature snapper 7, and he is playing it in that show (Mikio's parts and solo are tracked from the performance you just saw). He now keeps the guitar with him on tour (when there was) with Babymetal so Mikio is not far away. He has his favorite cigarette taped to the head stock enticing his spirit to come back and play it. There is also a private folded letter tucked behind the springs under the whammy bridge to Mikio from his daughter. . .needless to say if you react to that one, have a box of tissues nearby. It's a tough one. Kitsunes up Wade-Metal! 🤘🦊🤘
