It's great to see BABYMETAL and Rob Halford having fun on stage. So you should see BABYMETAL and Rob sitting side by side in chairs being interviewed at the AP AWARD.
Welcome back to BabyMetal's journey.🦊🤘🔥 This was an epic clash of Metal God and Fox God 🦊🤘🔥 There's an interview you can find after this with both of them, really fun. Rob Halford said he was so excited about this that even bought a cloth to match up with the colors of the girls. lol And he's waiting for another chance to collaborate together on a new song. Is all about fun and having a good time with a metal legend and the future of the metal sound. Our girls we'll never forget Rob's kind words and support when saying: _"Stay metal."_ 🤘 One of the girls, MoaMetal can actually play the guitar and she took some lessons way before this, the other girl YuiMetal (it pronounce "u - e") is just mimicking. In an interview MoaMetal got this question and she pretty much said she did played the guitar. Next suggestion: - Road Of Resistance live in Japan official live MV, careful with the block and put some filters if you get some issues. Thanks for sharing this iconic fun moment on BM career. 🦊🤘🔥
Great reaction, thanks! As a lifelong old-school metalhead (and BABYMETAL fan) myself, this is extremely cool. I'm super proud of them all and so grateful to Halford for always support BABYMETAL. 🤘🦊
Rob Halford has been a longtime fan and supporter of Babymetal. He brings them up in interviews quite often. Judas Priest has a new album coming out this year, so Halford has been doing quite a few interviews, and he mentioned in one of them that he still wants to do a song in collaboration with them, so hopefully that happens at some point. Yui is pronounced you-eee. The fans knowing what to do is true, but when I went to Babymetal Returns in January 2023 and they played the new songs from the new album, the fans hadn't figured out what they were supposed to do yet, and it was funny to watch everyone trying to work it out during the performance. The call and response in Karate is a small part of the original song that they make a more prominent part during live performances, so it stands out more. Although Babymetal didn't start out as metal fans, they have developed a deep appreciation for the culture and history of metal, so getting to perform with a metal icon like Halford would have been something they would have loved. They also cite Metallica as one of their biggest metal influences, and they got to open for Metallica in Seoul, South Korea in 2017. Their other great metal influence is the legendary Japanese metal pioneers X-Japan, and they played live with them in 2014. Those guitars that Yui and Moa are playing can actually be bought; they are ESP Mini Arrow Babymetal signature guitars. There is also a full size version (ESP E-II Arrow-7) that Takayoshi Ohmura has played a few times at Babymetal concerts.
Babymetal has not played live with nor done a collab with X Japan. The girls have met Yoshiki and there are photos. During their Kohaku appearance, Su- and Moa did perform, along with many others, a group performance of Endless Rain with Yoshiki but he was not actually in the studio. Clever edits on a video compilation can deceive a casual viewer.
@@johnschultz7765 Interesting, I was under the impression they performed with Yoshiki at some event back in 2014, but I didn't know the details. Thanks for the clarification.
Yes, the kamiband did great. Pretty good for a bunch of primarily Jazz/Fusion musicians. During Painkiller did you catch when Rob changed the lyric to " *SHE* is the painkiller." Here's my take on whether Yui and Moa were playing live. Just listen to how fat that opening riff sounds. That is 4 guitars. Compare that to how it sounds later in the song when the riff comes back around. That is 2½ guitars. Other than that opening, Yui was just strumming along with the main chords. Moa was doing quite a bit more. Yes, the heavy lifting was left to Mikio and Ohmura. (Pun unintended but works)
"pretty good"... haha. I think you know as well I do that "primarily jazz/fusion" means they're going to be able to play just about anything :-) I did not catch that he changed that line (or I certainly would have called it out); I'll go back and look for it!
Haha this is always a fun one! On the pronunciation: Yui (Yu-ee), Moa (Mo-ah), and the newest member, Momo. Su was definitely having fun being her dorky self for a bit 😆. I think Yui and Moa were a bit shy, but still enjoyed themselves. Moa really grew out of her shell a lot more recently. There are many recent fan cams of Moa’s stage antics. She even “commandeered” a camera making the poor camera guy run around following her on stage, as she took selfie videos which showed up on the main stage screen. Haha! Those guitars Yui and Moa had most likely were props. Moa does play guitar a bit, and she took lessons from Mikio, the guitarist on the left. Also, it is true that Kami West are less “visible”, but that’s only true of newer pro-shot concert footage at their major arena shows with massive stages (what most reaction videos will use). The vast majority of their shows on tour use the smaller stage setups seen here, and Kami West is very visible. With that said, the maskless Kami East era definitely is more animated. Cheers! 🤘🦊
The guitars were not props. They are custom short-scale guitars commissioned for them by Kobametal. They were gifted to them during their first tour to Singapore, IIRC. I think they might be the same guitars in the I, D, Z MV.
Great reaction, thanks for doing this. Sadly it was an awards show crowd, as you could tell, so they didn't get the response they deserved. Yes that was 'Karate' and they often add the bit in the middle for the crowd to sing along with Su (it works better with a metal audience like at Download UK in 2016 and best with their own crowd of course). 'Breaking the Law' was released in 1980, 'Painkiller' in 1990. This was 2016, Su was 18, Yui and Moa both just turned 17 - Rob was about 64 or 65 I think. Moa could play guitar a bit, Yui was just starting to learn. Whether they were playing, nobody really knows, but they had said they were practising hard and were nervous to play live ... but in Mikio Fujioka (RIP) and Takayoshi Ohmura they had two of the best possible teachers to help them learn and I can't imagine the main riff for 'Breaking the Law' is the hardest thing to learn if you do have some idea to start with. Moa was more likely to have been playing, Yui maybe playing a couple of power chords - and if they were playing they were probably low in the mix. This really was a meeting of the generations and much mutual respect. In the interview afterwards Rob Halford said how they were originally only going to do 'Breaking the Law', but he was enjoying rehearsing with them so much that he said "Let's do 'Painkiller' as well" and they made it happen. He also described BABYMETAL as "the future of metal" and the girls as "Heavy Metal Monster Ladies" ... that made them giggle. About 3 years after this Rob Halford also said it would be a dream of his to record a new song with BABYMETAL - and to do it in Japanese. When BABYMETAL toured with the Red Hot Chilli Peppers later in 2016 they played 'Painkiller' and 'Breaking the Law' once again on the last night of the tour in London - that time Rob Halford was not there of course so Su did the all vocals by herself, but they did have Chad Smith from RHCP playing drums (and all dressed up as a Kami Band member). He presented Su-metal with a special surprise at the end as well - it was her birthday the next day. There are a couple of half decent fancam videos of that.
I'm going to look that video up. (I'm ok with fan vids). It's really cool how many other bands are giving Babymetal such huge props. It's gotta feel really great to be recognized by such icons. And knowing that in 20 or 30 years you'll be the ones giving out accolades to new artists!
@@DadDaughtersandDrinks Excellent - one of the videos is 'BABYMETAL-Painkiller-Breaking The Law-Suzuka`s Birthday HD' or 'Babymetal & Chad Smith 2016 / Su-metals birthday' (I dare not post the links, my comment will disappear). All of RHCP dressed up as Kamis I think at the end of the US tour and joined BABYMETAL on stage to play 'Gimme Chocolate' too. Look for 'BABYMETAL "ChiliChoco" A.A Arena FANCAM COMPILATION①'
There's a video of Babymetal doing these 2 songs with Su doing all the vocals and having fun without any choreography here on YT, you should give it a watch
Crappy camera work (who points AWAY from the guy doing a guitar solo?!), bad sound work, the MC's were cringe in the beginning, dead crowd....BUT.... It says a lot about the energy, the absolute fun the girls, Rob and the Kamiband were having, to make this performance still be this good. You should check out a performance where Su sang Painkiller and Breaking the Law with Chad from Red Hot Chili Pepper on the drums, mostly fancam vids, but it's totally worth it, especially at the very end. 🤘🦊🤘
👍 👍 I NEVER recommend this (especially the beautiful Karate performance because the audience is clueless) Lame awards audience makes it hard to watch. But Suzuka's high notes with Halford saves the songs in my opinion. Metallica, Halford and Rob Zombie were three of the metal legends that came forward to sing the praises of these ladies and for that they deserve credit.
@@DadDaughtersandDrinksyes the best thing was that drummer Chad Smith surprised Suzuka onstage with a cake for her birthday after a performance. Everyone who has been associated or worked with these young ladies talk about how hard working and humble they are.
I absolutely love this! It's just wholesome to watch these people having fun on stage, being carefree. That's the Metal spirit right there 🦊🤘
