As a Gen Z, the grasp the SNL writers have on the mentality and slang of my generation, is both embarrassing and enlightening.
Assembly era was funny but everything else made me want to put my head through a wall.
I’m actually not offended by this because it’s based on Pedro Pascal’s Internet phase of him becoming daddy because he is daddy
It's a marked improvement from the "Gen Z Hospital" sketch on the Elon Musk episode from season 46. Maybe they realized that they needed to do better than that after reading the online comments about it. It also helps that some of the cast members they have now are Gen Z (1990s born, tail end Millennials. I think Marcello Hernandez and newcomer Chloe Troast are the only ones that can be legitimately called Gen Z, while Michael Longfellow, Molly Kearney, and Devon Walker are just tail end Millennials).
My kid being 11 at the beginning of covid makes this so much more disturbing.
I wouldn't call 14 year olds Gen Z. They have more in common with Gen Alpha. I think it's time for Zoomers to understand that they're no longer the young ones. You're like the rest of us old folks now. I mean, there are Zoomers with Gen Alpha kids now. Your time as the hip young generation is over when you start birthing the next generation.
"Wow Mr. Ben we thought you were different but you're just like everyone else...mid" is one of my favorite lines.
Yep - that is a line that I have heard as a teacher. Yes, you still have to learn and do the work in my class.

I was working with some 20-year-olds and one of them used “mid” in a sentence a couple weeks ago. I got SO excited!
And not just internally. I actually told her she was the first person in real life I’d heard use “mid” and how happy I was to understand her.

for ex, one way to use it could be "i really love lemonade era beyonce" to mean bey from that time specifically, aka era, but you can also use it casually or as a joke like they did in the sketch. if your friend looks good you could say she's in her "hot girl era", like that

Man, this information makes me feel old as a millennial. 😂 I wonder if this is how Gen X and Boomers felt listening to my generation as teens. I’m a nerd for language and its evolution though, so I find it fun to learn about and unpack. My freshman year of college, I wrote a paper on the importance of teenage slang that I built around ‘A Clockwork Orange’ and Nadsat.
