I thought your comment as the kids were fist bumping the ref was spot on. He was bad, yes, but he didn't win them the game. Rocky River had plenty of chances to score and unfortunately didn't. Thank you for doing what you do for boys and girls soccer in NE Ohio. As a former player, it's great to see highlights of a game that meant so much to me.

Man, those games are tough...you dominate the run of play, have a boondoggle of a defensive effort and your keeper misses a tight angle save to the far post...and you lose the entire game. Sure, the ref wasn't the greatest (pretty sure he made most of his calls 20+ yards away...didn't see him running much in the game), but all of those missed chances really sting for Rocky River.

Honestly it's parents like these that are a main factor to the referee shortage. If half of them got their certification instead of just showing up at a game and treating the referees like this it would be a great benefit to the sport. Every year I have fellow referees tell me it's their last season as they are fed up with the abuse. We're humans too, we don't see everything and we certainly make mistakes. Could he have been better, in my opinion yes but that does not justify the screaming.

I wasn't at the game, so I can only comment on what is shown in the video. While the referee definitely missed a few marginal calls, it did not seem to me to be biased one way or the other. Watching in slow motion, the ball off the crossbar that bounced down appeared to land directly on the goal line, so correct no goal call there (and the center has to defer to his AR there anyways, unless he would somehow have an angle clearly showing the ball over the line.) On the girl getting the bloody nose, again when watching in slow motion it appears white gets her head to the ball while jumping more or less straight up and then the red players face/nose collides with the back of her head. Unfortunate, but no foul on white, if anything it would have been a foul on red. On the drop ball after the yellow card to the coach for complaining, I do think the ref messed up and should have awarded that to red since they appeared to have gained possession immediately preceding the stoppage, but in the end white quickly lost possession and it resulted in a counterattack that should have been a goal for red. Several other marginal no-calls or possible wrong calls, but for the most part they seemed to be out in the midfield and probably didn't have an undo influence on the game, and most of the referee's advantage decisions seemed to bear out well despite the parents clamoring for a foul call.
The end result probably does not reflect the overall quality of these two teams, but that is why they play the games! Royalton took advantage of their opportunity, and unfortunately for Rocky River they were not able to finish. Awesome job with the video as always, looking forward to some more in these next couple of weeks. High school playoff soccer here in Northeast Ohio is always exciting and one of my favorite times of the year!

Great assessment...agree with all of that. Can't wait to see more soccer games on the channel! :)

Just some advice for spectators: no matter how much you yell, you look like morons to anyone observing this match. I don't care how much you think the ref is biased, bad, what have you. It is embarassing as a fan of this sport to see people lose their collective minds at something that at the end of the day is just a game.

Idk it was a mixture of poor defense from the Royalton Bears which should have been punished by goals from the River Pirates. Then you have the ref … and the spectators
