So here we are with a tutorial on Guilty Gear strive to help you all going into the open beta! This should also be very applicable to launch if you are coming in at a later date. Timestamps are in the video so you can skip around to whatever you think is interesting and I hope you enjoy the game, its fun!
So the stars on the character screen actually visually show you how wack a character is!? Lol that seems so messed up if thats what those mean!
@@CDotPony That's their measurement basically yeah, more stars = more easy less stars = less easy
Honestly you did a great job at showing off the system mechanics of the game better than the mechanics video Arcsys made but I think you forgot the instant faultless defense.
Roofle did you cover how throws and throw teching/evading works in GG? Or is it roughly the same as street fighter?
@@WileyKing Its basically the same as SF. Throw is forward/back +Dust, and teching is the same
"Probably don't play Zato"
*You can't tell me how to live my life*
Dude I got booty r*ped by a Zato 3 times in a row just an hour ago, LMAO
@@moomoo7278 He actually looks really good every time ive seen gameplay of him on twitch. People probably just don't know how to deal with him yet.
I had a zato end my unga bunga attempts with Leo.
I am high key thinking about picking up zato.
@@nasimtahsin8108 M-maybe...BRO WAS THAT YOU???!!! 😭😭😭
@@riftis2210 HE DOES SO MANY THINGS AT ONCE ITS HARD TO KEEP UP
As a casual marvel player, that one button dash may be the thing that pushes me to purchase this game.
Button dash is amazing like legit, I got a bad left wrist and its why I play pad usually in games that require a lot of dashing. I can freely and safely play this on stick thanks to that.
@@rooflemonger facts, i feel the same way
I miss wavedashing in marvel that's forsure
@@rooflemonger I don't have a bad wrist, but I'll be damned if carpal tunnel isn't a part of my life due to playing on a stick for 20+ years.
I have a bad feeling that it might get patched
People were saying that Strive was going to be less complex than other guilty gears, but with pretty much five different roman cancels, it seems just as if not more complex.
It is definitely not more complex than other guilty gears, but there's nothing wrong with that. It is going to be completely different though, which will make it a whole new thing to learn even to veterans
@@povertyeditor4898 exactly. This GG isn’t that complex at all compared to past entries
I started Guilty Gear with Xrd, and my first thought at seeing Strive’s Roman Cancels was, “so they’ve streamlined them, eh?” It’ll take labbing for sure, but this seems easier to wrap my head around then RCing in Xrd was, even with my BlazBlue and Persona experience.
It’s still less complex, especially with combo ability eg; P,P,K,S, Special, Super now it’s P,P,P or K,K,K
The most you get is S,HS on certain characters. Have you played older GGs? I’ve been playing since DC
From watching, it seems like this GG is more streamlined and straight forward, but the technical ceiling is a lot higher. IMO, easier level of entry for newer players, and higher ceiling cap for experienced players.
This is my first fighting game I'm going to try to seriously get into, and this was a super useful guide. Thanks for making this!
Any luck? Imi. The same boat. Hows it going?
Yeah, howzit going?
I am also joining as a new player and this game feels overwhelming
It's pretty overwhelming at first but I'm learning, I struggle with landing combos but I'm still floor 6
As am I
This is the first time I've seen someone open the command list. I REALLY like that they explain the moves instead of just giving you the name and the input. Strive is looking more and more like a game I'll like. :)
when i made a fighting game for school, i created something similar to roman cancel by accident
That’s actually awesome man
;-) but you didn't patient the name
That means there is no other way to play a fun fighting game
Damn, I wanna play that game now
@@filmsofficial8712 github.com/HAWGT/FightingLeague hasnt been touched in 3 years, the keys arent exactly intuitive (need to be configured), you need to use a controller iirc
So many of these characters seem super cool...
.
Imma play Zato
The art and aesthetics of this game has made me foam at the mouth to want to play this game, but I’m trash at fighting games. Thanks so much for this guide!! It’s opened me up to buying this amazing looking game. Subbed! Cheers!! 👍👍
More guides/videos/etc coming for GG strive over the course of the beta naturally! Look forward to that! Beta goes live tonight for Pre-orders, and 18th for everyone!
So basically this game is how many characters and mechanics can I add to break the basses of the game without destroying it.... I’m here for it
I knew u would have a guide up before the beta drops. U have the most reliable channel when it comes to fighting game guides and general fighting game info
I do my best, but im really tired rigtht now haha
@@rooflemonger Take breaks man. It really does help. Especially someone like me. I've only played tekken and debating if I should even try the beta because I'll prob get stomped and not have enough time to really learn lol
@@basil1596 beta has full training mode available so no worries there, and 99% of people playing will be basically in same boat as you so dont worry
@@rooflemonger The hard work definitely shows. Great Vid Great Editing
I have never played a fighting game, save for Smash, so you can imagine how wildly different it is for me to play this game. I started with Ramlethal, but I might spend some time on Ky/Giovanna to get my bearings a little easier. Thanks for making this guide, I will frequent this to review a lot of mechanics!
Yeah dude discovering a brand new fighting game style is like a brand new world and its the most amazing shit ever. I started just like you with smash, then went to more traditional fighters like street fighter (mainly 3 and 5) and was amazed with concepts like hitconfirming, cancels, anti airing. Now i recently got strive and also play a lil bit of skull girls and its yet another new world for me to discover and its just... amazing
I love how the shadows on the giant background skeleton make it look like it’s wearing sunglasses.
I actually needed this for im new to guilty gear in general
Welcome. I hope you enjoy the game when you try it :)
Hope you enjoy, its a fun series!
Legit was trying to find something like this lol perfect timing
Faust is one of those characters where his core buttons and special moves aren't particularly complex to pull off, but the item toss opens a lot of avenues, which you have to take advantage of on *REACTION.* If you're gonna play Faust, practice and research what his different items give you as far as mixups, pressure, and combos if they hit.
Was skeptical at first but might actually give this game a try. I’ve never been one for fighting games so this will be my first five button fighter.
Your video is well put together and very informative, I’ll definitely be rewatching couple times as I try to get the hang of the game. Keep up the good work!
I'm very late on this, but i hope you have stayed with a fighting game because it is so rewarding over time man. Just bought this game today but I played marvel for YEARS and it was so fun to see the development
Seems like just blocking will be really important to punish stuff.
Already found lots of stuff that are effectively only punishable on just block yeah
@@rooflemonger that is great, just blocking is what i was expectating the mk11 flawless block to be.
@Michael Fox I can already see so many misunderstanding happening because of that name
@@zephyrfield7322 That’s why I’d still like to call it Just Defend, like we did in past games.
So kinda like with parrying lows or sidestepping stuff in Tekken.
When I hear that “Heeeellloo and welcome” I know I’m about learn something today
Roofle: Dont pick Zato as first character
Brain: iMa PlaY ZaTo.
Exactly what I thought. First fighting game. I'm now a Zato-1 main.
I fell in love with the music and characters first, bought the game, realized I’ve only played Smash uncompetitively with friends before, spent 45 minutes in training, and finally found this video, thank you lol
Thanks for taking the time to do this. This will be my first GG game so I really needed to know this basic stuff. Cant wait to see more content!
Your channel is one of the best places to go whenever a new game comes out. I’m not new to fighting games, but I’ve never played Guilty Gear, so it’s nice to have a one stop shop.
this is such a fantastic video, everything is so well explained and paced, just perfect. I learned so much from it that I thought I already knew. thank you
I have never had a fighting game be this obstinate when it comes to telling you important information, so this guide has been super helpful. Thank you!
Looking forward to playing this with my friend this weekend. Very useful video as always!
Siiiick, this is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks bro!
Excellent guide!
Well versed, visually represented and straight to the point.
Nice job!
I’m really gonna try to learn all the mechanics and get good at this game, your channel seems like the perfect one to help with that, thanks
Thank you omg no one else had a true beginners guide uploaded. This game is attracting many new people to the series rn so you should make some more guides that would be helpful for newbies!!
Like me here 😂 trying the beta later if the servers will work
@@nasimtahsin8108 aight nice thx
yo you're the guy that uploaded the golden wind ost, right?
Like me also I'm a newbie. I literally seen this game minutes ago on my recommendation because pro player's were playing against each other and I've been hooked.
@@nasimtahsin8108 you'll definitely see me lol. I'm on guilty gear Rev 2 practicing getting the control's down it's pretty fun tbh. I'm having trouble with the roman cancels in this version tho 😂.
Always with the top notch content. Covers pretty much everything I had questions about in a concise yet still thorough manner. Now if only the game will come back online. Hopefully tomorrow I will see you all in the lobby!
Really well put together, kudos.
I'm aware that strive has been somewhat controversially simplified as far as inputs and combos go.
But I'd like to say, as someone who's completely new to this genre and struggles with dyspraxia, I'm actually really grateful for this.
This is a perfect beginner's guide, but I wouldn't expect any less from rooflemonger.
You put together an informative guide and I enjoyed your enthusiasm! Thanks from everyone here!
It's been a while always helps to refresh the basics
Appreciate this bunch, still new to fighting games and I want to make this the first game I actually devote time to getting good at. Took notes throughout the video so you know I'm at least a lil serious
Thank you for this Roofle! Gonna watch it after I wake up.
Game looks really good in the most part. I really want to give this GG a real try when it comes out. Hope this video will help!
Awesome breakdown like always 🔥🔥🔥. Keep up the good work👍🏼
Great guide, as always. Much appreciated.
This guide was godlike, killed it man.
This is the best, most straightforward and understandable guide for anything I’ve ever seen
Great tutorial and a really pleasant delivery. High quality stuff.
Thank you so much man, loved this guide wasn't able to find many good ones. This was super helpful and informative cheers.
You're a great teacher, rooflemonger! I'm glad that I'm subscribed to your channel because now I'm interested in getting into fighting games.
i''m really grateful for this guide man, thanks for the hardwork
I love that you take the time to introduce all the concepts and build on them gradually. A fair few "beginner" guides immediately start slinging jargon and as someone new to fighting games, I'm totally lost!
Finally picked up this game. This guide is helping me a lot as I keep coming back to it.
I didn’t really enjoy the tutorials so much so this has been a great way to learn the basics. Especially RC stuff.
Thanks!
Man this is so good. Amazing content. Subbed, can't believe I didn't find you earlier.
i am so excited to go into the beta now and so thankful for your content :)
This is going to get so many views because there are going to be so many new players getting this game like myself. Really appreciate the work!
This a pretty good guide, easy to understand. Thanks!
Great guide, exactly what I was looking for
Terrific video you've made here. Well done!
Wonderful guide, really appreciate! Hope to have same type of guide for more game! It help a lot. I'm now sub and I'll follow your channel for more excellent content like that! You did a awesome job! Thanks again!
This was an excellent video, really covers all the new stuff well!
This was fantastic. Super clear, straight to the point, and entertaining
Happy to be of help!
I've been looking for a new fighter to dive into for a while now. Coming from the SF scene and promptly avoid 5 for reasons, this is an extremely helpful guide to core mechanics. Appreciate the detailed run-down brother.
Great Video Roof!!
This video is so good. I hope I'll be able to get into this series.
Such a good overview for a newbie like me. Thanks!
Awesome video! Can't wait to play.
thankyou! this is. what I need!
Thank you so much for this!
Ty so much for this video. New to fighting games and this is exactly what I was looking for ✌️
Thanks for the video ! This will be my first time diving deep into a guilty gear game after trying the older games.
Almost time!!! Hope to see you guys online! Best of luck to everybody!
This video is perfect. Exactly what i was looking for. Answers all questions i had as a noobie coming in GG:S. Thank you! ++Bonus points for friendly and chill presenter voice~
Very interesting and informative video, really liked it
You never disappoint bruh

Very helpful, thank you 👍
Great video man really enjoyed it
Great video, really informative
This is going to help me out massively in the beta as a player new to Guilty Gear. Thanks!
Thanks as always roofles
Love your videos! I was here back when FighterZ came out now I’m back for my first Guilty Gear game!
super helpful, thank you for making this, it helps improving as a begginer
Great video! I have been playing Guilty Gear since the Dreamcast days but never actually stopped to truly understand how Roman Cancel worked. Now I get it!
Thank you holy shit! This cleared up so much!
New to GG, one of the better fighting game guides I have seen, straight to the point, taught me everything I need to play the game
Thank you for this I wanted to get into guilty gear and these tips were super helpful
This is an amazing tutorial, thanks, im trying to get into guilty gear (and fighting games in general) and this is quite usefull for revelator too
Thanks for this guide, I never played a GG but I’m hyped
Such a great video... A must for every newcomer. And your voice is really pleasant lol.
Nice! Perhaps I should share it with my friends if they ever feel like picking up GG: Strive and are new to playing fighting games competitively! ^^
So thorough good job!
STRONG hello and welcome my man. Strong. Saw your stream first time yesterday. Good work my dude.
Thank you so much, great tutorial
Thanks for this wonderful guide
Amazing guide. Thank you. Sometimes it is boring to make missions, and yet you don´t know what are the core stuff.
Great video!
Finally someone with tutorials, i knoew i could count on you rooflemonger
thank you for this guide! finally bought the game; ive been on the edge on whether or not i should get it cuz im not too familiar with fighting games, but wanna get into them. this game has cool characters and visuals and now that i got it, i can try to get better :)
Thanks for making this!
Happy to be of help!
Thanks for the tutorial. I play competitive Super Smash Bros Ultimate and I have never played a Guilty Gear game before. I wanted to play the beta for Strive but it was too late for me to get it. When the game comes out I’m definitely am going to get it cause this looks fun.
Your tutorial made stuff sound so simple.
This is incredibly nice. Thanks this will be my first Gg game
I wanted to get into the guilty gear series despite being a very slow turn-based JRPG type of person. This video is so helpful! You explained everything clearly and easy enough to understand for an airhead like me. Thank you so much for making this.
Great guide bro thanks
