Hey Woody, love what you do, your art is very impressionistic and not necessarily based on trying to paint realism and yet the scenes you capture are colourful and full of the essence of the overall scene
However, one observation I have tends to be about your videoing as you work. Lately I have watched several vidoes of you painting scenes of New York, but you have started to flip from a very brief look at how you lay down paint on the canvas, to including more shots of people passing by. Its like one second on your brushwork and five seconds on members of the public. This also has the effect of being hypnotic and nauseating to the viewer of your vlog. Wheras going back in time bro., We were able to see more of what you did and less of those people who mostly were just rushing by you. I love to see more of how you lay down paint and how you develop and interpret the ecene on canvas, than getting quick flashes of your camera as you flip from your artwork to the spend more time capturing the onlookers. I apologise in advance of your response, but though I love your artwork and your style and your past videos, I found it rather off putting this time around. If you play back the scene you might just get an understanding of the effect the shots may have on some of your viewers who may share my observation. Other than this point, your artwork is enjoyable and impressive to watch. Hope to see more and more of your artistic skill at work. 😊 👍👀🏴🇬🇧👋
I really like what you put together here. First of all plein air is hard, and to do it in front of so many people is terrifying. I haven't got the balls to go out and paint yet although I keep setting up I haven't been able to follow through. Secondly, the music is fantastic, is that your band? I Enjoyed the video.
Thanks so very much for the kind words and support of the channel Matt! I wish I was musically inclined but I'm not. I just spend a lot of time curating the music. I plan on adding a list of the music I use in the description of each video when I get some time to do so. For me setting up is the hardest part. Once I start painting I'm super comfortable no matter what's going on around me. Good luck on your plein air journey, and happy painting!
Hey Matt, just remember that by the time they’ve past by you people are not even thinking about you any more one way or the other. If someone does stop and look just say hi and if a conversation starts it’s a good thing. Unless it’s an a$$hole people aren’t going to stop to be negative.

Hi Woodie, sorry I've been away so long. So many people looking happy and enjoying the day. I see you started with the dark areas first. Often I see you start with the light areas. How do you decide what to concentrate on first? I wonder, how do you decide on where you will go each time you venture out. What would be your typical plan with each painting session? Thank you so much for your inspiring work.
No worries David! I know teaching keeps you busy. The lighting conditions dictate weather I start with the lights or the darks. I decide very quickly what is the most important element in the scene and base all my decisions off of that. About 70 percent of the time I don't know what I'm going to paint when I leave the house. I walk around wearing my red specs looking for something interesting. Other times something catches my eye when I'm going about my daily life and I tuck it away in the back of my mind as something to revisit later. I can't paint in public, I'm uncomfortable with people. I do plein air but more in the countryside out of the way of the public.
I didn't used to like painting in front of people but now I think it's actually a lot of fun! Though I wouldn't mind getting back out to the countryside for some more relaxing painting now and then. Thank you for watching and supporting the channel!
Hey Woodie, Cali artist here, just found your channel. Great work man, your really captured that street vibe! I think that one gal who was moving out of the neighborhood might have bought that piece?! How do you market your work? Do you work with music playing in the background on site? A friend of mine did live painting performance at festivals etc. Anyway however you create I dig it!
Thanks for the kind words and the sub Cooper! I don't really do anything to market my work. Not very good at that kind of stuff. Most of my sales come from people walking by like the gal you mentioned. I give them a card and tell them a little about what I do. Usually people contact me through my website inquiring about a piece, and then they can make a purchase directly via my online store. Happy painting!

I wish I knew how you paint that fast and have it turn out so well. I've been painting my whole life and it takes me months to finish a piece. (But I get caught up in lots of tiny detail too, soooo) ANYWAY, You're very skilled, lovely painting and video as always.
Thanks for the encouraging words Tiffany. I used to take a long time to finish paintings as well but once I started painting outside I got a lot faster. When I'm finished for the day I don't allow myself to go back and tinker with it. It's on to the next one for me. Happy painting!

Yes. I use the glasses to simplify things. They've been a game changer as far as distinguishing values and even figuring out what scenes might make interesting paintings. I never leave home without them😉 Thanks for watching and supporting the channel!
