  • Genesis: Our Power, Potential and Problems with Oneness
This message is brought to you by Pastor Darryl Morrison
    Main Scriptures:
    Genesis 11:1-9; Genesis 1:28 and Genesis 9:7
    Points:
    Genesis 11:1-9 Confusion and Scattering
    v. 1 11 Now the whole earth had one language and one speech.
    v. 2 And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar, and they dwelt there.
vs. 3 Then they said to one another, “Come, let us make bricks and bake them thoroughly.” They had brick for stone, and they had asphalt for mortar.
    v. 4 And they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city,
    v. 4a and a tower whose top is in the heavens
    v. 4b “let us” make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth.
    v. 5 But the Lord came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men had built.
God didn’t have to come down, “God’s coming down is showing that He’s paying attention, He’s inspecting, and He’s not pleased.”
    v. 6 And the Lord said, “Indeed the people are one and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do; now nothing that they propose to do will be withheld from them.
They were unified in their own desire to exalt self rather than God.
    v. 7 “Come, let Us” go down and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.”
    v. 8 So the Lord scattered them abroad from there over the face of all the earth, and they ceased building the city.
God will always show Himself faithful to His purpose even before His people.
    v. 9 Therefore its name is called Babel, because there the Lord confused the language of all the earth; and from there the Lord scattered them abroad over the face of all the earth.
Lessons From The Tower Of Babel:
    1. There’s extreme potential and power when there’s oneness and unity.
    2. Give thought to what and why you build because God is a building inspector.
    3. Is what I’m building being used to exalt you or glorify God?
    4. When we build for ourselves God may disrupt it.
    5. God will scatter and confuse our efforts if they’re not in alignment with His purpose.
    6. God will always show Himself faithful to His purpose before His people.
