Key Message:
Correct faithless behavior and exercise faithful obedience by trusting God’s providence. This faithful response requires complete surrender and leads to His divine blessing.
God’s providence simply means His divine, guiding provision for you and me.
Points:
1. Trusting God’s Providence to Backtrack Recklessness (Gen. 13:1-7)
- God will lead you back to a position of faith. For Abram, it was Bethel (Hebrew meaning: house of God).
2. Trusting God’s Providence with Complete Surrender (Gen.13:8-13)
- Faith can be summarized as active trust and belief displayed through obedience. Faith does not suggest mere intellectual belief. Because Scripture says even the demons believe. Faith involves all of who you are in a relationship with God that expresses trust and response to His leading.
3. Trusting God’s Providence for Divine Blessing (Gen. 13:14-18)
- Anyone who places their faith in the Lord is considered the offspring of Abram-that includes us!
Summary:
From the line of Abram God would bring about the Messiah for the world.
Our Savior, Jesus would come from this lineage of Abraham.
Abraham --} Issac --} Jacob (Israel) --} 12 Sons (tribes of Israel) --} Judah --} David --} Jesus
This is about a God who is so madly in love with you and me that He would, by His divine providence, cause the events to unfold to get Abram to the promised land, Canaan, and protect and preserve His promised seed.
Ephesians 2:8-9 says, “8 For you are saved by grace through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God’s gift- 9 not from works, so that no one can boast.”
