  • Unboxing & review of the Triton TMNRTR 880W trim router, testing it by cutting a truss rod slot in a new guitar neck.
It comes with a plunge base as well as an adjustable trim base, locking fence & 2X collets 1/4" and 8mm. It also has the mounting points for a guide bush attachment built into the plunge base.
I used it to cut a 6mm wide, 9mm deep slot into a neck blank made from spliced Maple and Indian Rosewood & it performed brilliantly, plenty of power, and the soft-start is a nice touch.
The plunge base feels very solid & stable, good locking mechanism, and the height adjustment feels positive with no slop.
It's a shame it doesn't have the quick-change system for cutters, but it's certainly no deal breaker, and it would be useful to have centre markings on the base to help with lining up cuts.
Overall, I really like this tool packed with features and comes with a seriously robust case.
    For the money it's a no-brainer.

With a full width cut such as a slot for the truss rod the router should be pushed away from you with the fence on the right. the resulting cutting forces will pull the fence towards the workpiece and be very stable. if you reverse this as you did the forces will cause the fence to try to move away from the workpiece and be very unstable. In fact if you did this with a large cutter in a powerful machine it could be dangerous especially with your fingers wrapped around the fence. Hands should be on the handles at all times. A 9mm slot can safely be achieved with two passes in the same direction as described above.

Thank you Arthur I’ll bear that in mind. I prefer using a table but for some jobs it’s not possible.
