  • Just in at That Rhythm Man Guitars is this "Greeny" replica of the Les Paul named for the 1st major owner, the famed Peter Green, then Gary Moore, and now Kirk Hammett. In this video I review this example and demo it against a 1952-59 conversion (done by JamCity Guitars) with vintage original PAF humbuckers.

Both great, thanks! The Greeny certainly takes me to some early Peter Green stuff, esp. middle & bridge. That said, I'll take the other one any day! I'm looking at buying a set of Monty's Bethnal Greens to put into a nice Epiphone LP Custom (The Wino - ebony fretboard etc) for my PG fix 😀

It amazes me that they go to the extent of all the wear of the nitro on the back of the guitar, and the wood underneath is completely smooth. Not a blemish. It's just soooo fake.

Relicing takes away the pain of that first (and subsequent) nicks in an otherwise brand new guitar. The bare wood is a fresh canvas for the owner. A very practical way to have the cake and eat it too.

I think it’s great that Gibson came up with these guitars. There will only be 1 Greeny. But at least (if you can afford one) you might as well go for it.

Apologies if I missed it but which caps pots and pickups are in the replica? It has much better harmonic voicing on the bridge pickup; tail end of the zeppelin riff. Only could tell because this was such an excellent comparison video; top marks across the board 👏👏
As for the greeny, I’m excited for those who can afford it, but pretty disappointed with Gibson for holding back on so many other guitars whose pickups deserved to be voiced the same way. But hey maybe they’re learning too and just recently figured out the secret. I’d prefer to live in that world, which would be a lot easier if Gibson decides to sell the greeny pickups (and/or entire wire harness) separately.
If I decide to try my own greeny replica from a standard 50’s (faded or gloss) I’ll probably get the Sam Li version of the kossoff pickups from Throbak (currently in my R8 and they’re amazing) and flip the neck magnet myself.
Edit: maybe in a future vid we could see the control cavity of each guitar? 👏👏🫶

Hi nice comparison on both guitars, definitely the conversion sounds just perfect, it’s got all the hallmarks of a 59 and seriously the Murphy Lab Greeny is it worth the $20.000 asking price when they can’t even get the 60s tone knob on a Greeny right. “WOW“ Okay no biggie however for such an expensive guitar, makes you think what else is missing…….

    • @ThatRhythmMan

They both sound really good but the 52-59 conversion has a dynamic depth or dynamic range and a warmth that the newer guitar just doesn't have ..but I do think Gibson did a really good job .."IMO I think there should be more focus on true reverse engineering on the wiring harness , Abr1 w/ Zamac, fatter, short, wide saddles.. (like the originals)comprable true vintage style Central Labs potentiometers, as close as possible PAF pickups.. getting the capacitance correct like the originals etc..then we'd start getting much closer.. But, the Murphy Labs LP sounds great! Thanks for your work and nice job on the video 🎸🤟

The neck PAF on the 52 is amazing . The clarity is exceptional. It sounds like a slightly fatter bridge pickup. I have read many times the best sounding original Pafs in the neck position sounded like slightly fatter bridge pickups and that is what I hear in this video.

Been doing the normal meds & steroid shots but also I've found using supports that squeeze the arm/elbow & help keep water off & help reduce the ability to swell can help tremendously. The majority of purchasers of this guitar are bedroom warriors probably not even semi pro musicians. An outrageous indulgence when you consider what you can buy for a lot less money that will sound and look as good. How can those individuals justify the spend when you consider many of them will have far more important commitments and responsibilities. The guitar is nothing but a gross self-indulgence. Get real you aint never going to sound like Gary Moore or Peter Green what ever your guitar looks like folks even if you are an above average player!
