    Never thought I'd hear you playing Peter Green licks lol. Really enjoying these current run from Gibson. I have a 2019 50's standard as well as a 75 maple necked standard. They're both quite different from each other but both great in their own ways. Great playing as always! 🤘

    I knew when they announced these guitars they'd be good and had planned on getting the Epiphone, but just cant stomach $1,500 for a Chinese made Epiphone when we're only a couple years removed from $2,000 US made Gibson LP Standards. Glad Greeny is finally getting the attention it deserves, though. What a legendary guitar!
    EDIT: And double the price of an Epi Custom, which just doesn't add up because the Gibson Custom is nearly twice the price of the Gibson Greeny - wtf is that logic?

    • @Hickeroar
      @Hickeroar Před 4 měsíci +1

      The Epi Greeny has basically all Gibson parts, and Epi's fit/finish/qc has been ahead of Gibson's for more than a decade now anyway. Yeah, $1500 is steep compared to normal for the Epi name on the headstock, but it's basically a Gibson guitar at this point. Mine, which I got on sale for $1199, is a clear step up from my Gibson Tribute which was $1299 in features and overall quallity. I understand that "made in China" doesn't feel as good, but they're making very high quality instruments now. It does feel weird to buy an Epi for more than a grand though.

    I've thought about getting the Gibson version but I don't think I want to spend that much. They could have made the finish look just a little bit lighter also.

      As much as a like Gibson's they are definitely overpriced! That is why i always buy mine used but in mint condition. I pay a lot less and still get a great guitar.
      A used "Greenie" can be had for $2K or even lower if you shop long enough and a new Epi one is $1300 so to me the extra $700 is more than worth it.

    Custom shop ones have the ABR bridge that screws directly into the wood. I do not like that much. I prefer the Nashville bridge that screws into metal bushings in the body. It lets me adjust the bridge height on the fly while the 9-46 strings are on and at tension (usually Eb). Do that with an ABR bridge and the screws might strip out the wood. The Nashville bridge is also wider, so that allows more intonation adjustment. I am not sure how different each type of bridge sounds. I have only had one custom shop Gibson and it had a Nashville bridge (Elegant series Les Paul during the 1990s). My SG has an ABR bridge with Nashville inserts. I might dump the ABR and go all Nashville.
    With pickups I am not so keen on PAF recreations. I know we are supposed to like them more, but I have more fun with my Super Distortion or Whole Lotta Humbucker pups. the WLH pups are great. Hot alnico 5 PAFs and wax potted to stop the squeal, while the Super Distortion pups just rock in the mids and have a nice , smooth high end. There was a reason all those famous players in London got Seymour Duncan to mod their PAF pickups for them back in the day and then so many player put a Dimarzio pup in their gats.
    I do not like the little frets Gibson insist on using. I have stainless in my Les Paul and will do the same with my SG. Bigger frets seem to help with bending the strings. I like my Gibson guitars though. They have their quirks, but I play a certain way and get a certain sound from them that I do not get with other guitars. Same goes for a Strat or a Tele. Both have something unique about their playing feel and sound.
    P.S. If I spec'd out my own custom Gibson, it would not be one of those Tom Murphy clones of an old Burst. It would be black with gold hardware, stainless frets, a Tone Pros or similar Nashville style bridge, a Super Distortion in the bridge, and something more PAF in the neck. Most of all it would have a maple neck with an ebony fingerboard, but a two piece mahogany body like the old Les Paul Custom gats. Maple is much stronger, so less chance of busting the headstock. I like ebony fingerboards for some reason (My Les Paul has it, plus the pale looking rosewood they use these days ain't the same as the nice looking Brazilian stuff they used to use that is a protected species these days)

      @MickH60 Před 5 měsíci

      The screws won't "strip out of the wood". I've been playing ABR loaded LP's for 40+ years, what are you talking about ? And ABR bridges are superior sounding because of their direct connection to the wood, Nashville bridges are a poor second cousin.......

    I find Epi les pauls in general have more Midrange bark . My Epis have more low range than most of My Gibsons . I have a set of Custombuckers that were really mid scooped in My R8 les paul so i swapped them out and put the Custombuckers in An Epi les Paul and now they have lots of midrange bark and Growl . I had Burstbuckers in that Epi at first and they had too much lower midrange wihich was Causing alot of Mud but now with the Custbuckers that Epi sounds like a High Quality example of a Gibson Custom shop les paul . I have 3 R8s and my 2 Epi Les Pauls with Custombuckers sound just as good overall and for some types of tone actually sound better . The Gibsons are a little more sensitive to pick attack but thats it .

      @emartinezr Před 5 měsíci +1

      Yeah, they feel like plastic. Even when they have the weight and general solid wood, the way the guitars feel and vibrate is more natural on the Gibsons. But... for 1/3 of the price, if you can't tell the difference or don't care, the Epiphone is pretty neat.

    Usually the Epi's have really cheap frets that will wear out very quickly and the modern wiring is of low quality. When played through a transparent amp the difference between the two become very obvious. There's a reason why they call them entry level guitars! 🤘

      The Epiphone is probably a little closer to the reality of Greeny now (at least in color), and the Gibson is probably closer to what it looked like when it was new. That said....yeah, Greeny is less about looks and more about the weird electronics configuration that gives it a unique sound. (That reverse positioned/polarity neck pickup)
