How to attach the side reins on a horse you don’t know

This is how I attach the side reins on a horse I don’t know - outside side rein is done up first. Then I walk the horse forward, and as we’re walking I attach the inside side rein and then immediately send him out and fairly quickly into trot. This way there is little danger of him panicking about the confinement of the side reins.
