FAQ: Where can I buy the grids of clovers? US: Lowes AUS: Bunnings, Spotlight, some dodgy dollar stores Interwebs: Ebay, Amazon - search for "Hedge Grass Mat Greenery Panels" Let me know where you've found them so I can add it to the list :)
@@karstenvonfjellheim5321 I'm still experimenting with that, I've been trying things like painting on a wash or dipping them in floor varnish. But I haven't found a result I'm looking for yet!
I can second using house paint for painting terrain. I pick up nearly every pint of "ooops" paint that I can find at Home Depot for 50 cents each. Quarts are $2. I probably have enough to last my lifetime of hobby painting, crafting, and small woodworking projects. If you have a resale shop near you that accepts donations, you can often find the wooden or MDF bottoms of drawers that have come from broken dressers and cabinets. These make strong bases for terrain, are dirt cheap, and can be easily cut to size and shape with a scroll saw, Dremel, or skillsaw.
the hardest terrain type to pull off at 28mm. really wish someone would make some materials to scale just to make this easier and even more correct to the eye. your work is about the best I've ever seen.
Cool end effect. I have been doing something similar, except that rather than adding a hard flat base I glue over the bits of plastic gridding with pieces of earthy coloured felt with holes for the pegs. The less rigid basing means my thickets can better fit into crnnies or sit naturally on slopes. I also tend to give the bottoms of the chunkier 'veg' pieces a bit of brown paint before I slide them on. This helps make the basal ring look a bit less plasticky. I also sometimes add organic bits, like weaving in the odd bit of fencepost lichen to simulate scrambly vines.
Great video! Just wanted to add, soaking your balsa wood in water may cause warping or at least soften it to bend to dry allowing palm trees to be more realistic :)
Straight up, its refreshing af to see an Aussie making terrain for games like 40k. Not sure if it's just my particular taste as an Australian but most terrain tutorials seem...tacky. This channel always seems to capture what I want to do for my terrain, and I just want to see more stuff from this channel. Thank you for the help Miscast.
That reminds me: it's time to populate the jungle, so why not some dinosaurs? I have a blog about turning cheap plastic toys into miniatures or terrain and I'd love to see what you will be able to do with the same concept. Take some plastic dinos and amaze us! 40k Dino riders? Saurus' pet? A giant golden idol?
This is the first vid I've seen from this channel. Watched a few, awesome jungle, awesome walls, awesome bunker. I smashed that subscribe button so hard my mouse pointer broke the screen. EDIT: Have you done a how to video about making a table? Like one of those puzzle piece style ones you see sometimes? If not, I'd like to see that.
Really cool video. I made a mistake when I did my jungle set, got the plants from Aquarium store, and they were super expensive.... But just a couple weeks ago, I finished a jungle set for our local gamer. He had this cheap plants, and they looked really awesome. Might consider redoing my own set ^^D
Yes, I fell into that trap myself a couple of years ago when I did my first jungle set, you can get some very nice ones at the specialty stores though! Now I just collect them when I see them if I think they'll match the ones I already have. Otherwise, places like eBay are a quick way to source them inexpensively.
okay, okay, just for you I have re-listed a previously unlisted video on making tau terrain. It was one of the first videos I made so take it with a grain of salt czcams.com/video/ZmP_TnpQib4/video.html I hope to revisit it with this series though!
Most of the time it's an audiobook or podcast. Recently I've been listening to The Kingkiller Chronicles as well as the Gentleman Bastard Series. Podcasts I regularly listen to are - CG Garage, Corridor Cast, Aunty Donna Podcast, RT Podcast. And the music I listen to spans a lot of genres but mostly dance and hip hop tracks.
@@Miscast Yet again any mention of audiobooks and I HAVE to bring up Skullsworn written by Brian Staveley it was my first, and still my favorite, audiobook! I highly recommend it. Keep up the great work :)
Very kind mate, please don't ever feel obligated, it's my pleasure making this stuff and the fact I have an audience to watch what I love to do is more than enough.

What if you add a wash to the plastic trees, would they look better? Because, they look like plastic trees.

Where do you get the basing material in Aus?
Also, foam board? In Aus?
Big fan, anticipating season 2
@@ElBandit0 Bunnings is your friend. Basing board and the plastic plant mat are both available there. Bought both from there back in Feb 2020
I'm glad I'm not the only one with a box full of fake aquarium plants.
That palm tree is incredible, I really like the way you textured the balsa wood!
I'm curious, did you spend like 5 hours trying to make coconuts?
No, 5 hours making Pina Coladas, but I drank them all.
@@Miscast phenomenal work, well done
Filing this in my mental playlist: #thingsyoucant3dprint - so good, Trent!
Man, I absolutely love your crafting videos. The high quality and relaxed tone make them a joy to watch.

Yeah, don't be afraid to hack 'em up and turn them into something new! Good luck
I quit tabletop gaming years ago but I still like to watch your videos. They remind me of the good old days :-)
Aw that's very kind, thank you. I hope you find your way back to the hobby at some point :)

Miscast Terrain +1 to your intro!
Great terrain! I'd love me a set of the jungle stuff.
I can feel the warp overtaking this video, it is a good pain!
The Palm tree really makes these work. So simple, yet so effective. Time to build up a supply of fake plants and balsa rods.
