Yeah, I just knew he was going to work in some kind of "rust", even if it was only in color. 😁 Besides, who knows, maybe toxic, alien plantlife rusts on their planet this time of year.
Landscaping now? Is there no end to your talent? I tried using those dollar store palm trees for Heroscape terrain with varying degrees of success. Do you know Heroscape? Kind of tabletop miniature war gaming for people too lazy to paint or generally be bothered. Neat figures that might be around about 28mm scale. Might be nice for kit bashing if you can find them. I sold all of mine.
I knew your style and sketch book had huge inspiration from nausicaa, and I knew there was a reason I love it so much. One of my favorite universes, same with castle in the sky.
I'm so sorry I missed your anniversary! Please accept my heartfelt apologies!!! I'm happy I found your channel; it's a lot of fun. Merry Christmas, Bill and wife!
Foamboard can warp sometimes still, what I usually do is stick my foamboard bases on top of sticky side vinyl tile. Worked out so far and gives the bases some weight
Hi Bill, I wish you a belated happy anniversary. Regarding your crust juice…. my dear friend Susan, a fabulous theatrical scenic painter, used to make a mixture of paint, kitty litter, and sawdust she called it piggy poo. She used piggy poo when she wanted a lovely crusty texture on the sets and props she was painting. I use piggy poo myself on the sets and props I paint. I know she would be honored if you were to call your crusty concoction piggy poo as well :)
Your style is so relaxing yet playful. It reminds me of the crafting shows we used to have on TV. It also reminds me of one show for very small kids, that was basically just explaining and experiencing different basic concepts, also narrated in a very calm and relaxing style with playful sound effects
Awkward…. Happy anniversary Bill! The card must have gotten lost in the mail 🤷♀️ I didn’t know Studson Studio owned Studio Ghibli, he sure kept that quiet. I wonder if he ever gets mixed up and releases a 30 minute build video on Netflix and a feature length animation on CZcams 🤔
A year already? Man almost everything on this channel (except your eyes Bill) went forward! Keep it going, really love your scratch-kit-sketch-bash-building!
Nausicaa has such a unique environment, love to see projects from it. These turned out great! I really love all the colors you decided to go with for them, super cool result in the end! If you end up doing more projects in this vein in the future, I will look forward to seeing them~
This is the most entertaining thing in my entire life I have never been so glued to a screen this entire thing reminds me of a old Sega game called ToeJam and Earl: panic on Funkotron like the music is so capsulating to listen to I'm for sure subscribing
@@BillMakingStuff I do, please keep up the excellent work, Those little spherical seed pods look like they are from the Cypress family, they look very alien once they dry out and open up, hope you and they family have a very merry Christmas and every thought about building a Sci Fi Junk Planet Robot Santa with Robot Reindeer?
BILL! I've been making miniatures and crafting for more than half my life and I've never thought of using a clothes peg when dealing with armature wire. Amazing. Thanks
Bill it's been quite a year! You made bead bots, a scrap titan, a bio-pod racer and off camera you made a person! I've said it before but you are a massive inspiration, keep it up and I wish you and your family all the best.
That PVA glue mix has an amazing final texture! Looks like it'd work great as a foam effect or poured concrete texture, with all the little bubbles. I wonder how well it would take to color... paint, powdered pigments, food coloring? Maybe glow-in-the-dark powder for "radioactive froth" effect.
Yeah, great color choices here. I think a lot of times people go a little *too* crazy when painting alien landscapes and it just comes off as cartoony a lot of the time. Your use of crazy colors here while also kind of keeping to natural, "realistic" tones definitely makes these work a lot better! Great job, as always. And happy anniversary!
I bought some windshield wipers today and thought about you. i saw they came with extra bits that you could make something with. So I caught two birds and tied it to them. I told them you sounded British and stent them your way. They should arrive sometime
Also your narration is idk but I just want to keep listening to your voice I don't have a word to describe this feeling but it's mesmerizing...I think that was the word I was looking for 😆
Happy Billaversary! Thanks to that studly model you had showing off your shirt, my husband and I both got one! Then again we want everything in your store, not just the ones modeled by talented crafters.
I’m pretty sure that shirt promo was the jolliest we’ve ever seen you! Happy anniversary! Your creativity, humor , and style never cease to inspire me and have genuinely gotten me through this semester of university. Thanks, dude. I’m so excited to see the results of this one.
Calcify is absolutely a word and this is awesome. I love the idea of making this kind of terrain and all your work would look amazing among it. Also you should call it crusty sauce.
Hello Bill, a fun, interesting and beautifully edited video as usual. BY THE WAY, THE (ooops, caps lock) lovely round cones you found are off a coniferous Cypress tree. P.S. Happy anniversary. (also, thought the 40K was celebrating the amount of subs but not far off)
hahaha thank yooou! I scrolled through all these comments a year later cuz I really wanted to know what they were. made me remember I used to play with those little cones things all the time as a kid.
I have been looking for this kind of terrain for a while. It’s kind of funny how so many sci fi forests are just northwest U.S or southwest Canada. Looks like extraterrestrial plants. I will definitely use some of these techniques. Thanks
Love this project, I prefer something like this for table terrain vs something out of a historical guide to plants. It takes just as much time to make as trying to copy real trees...maybe less, but it spruces things up nicely. Keep messing with terrain in the future, I'd like to see what other stuff you can come up with, even throw in a robot if the mood strikes.....and Happy Anniversary!
Your brush tree/plant looks very much like a real plant called horsetail. It's pretty alien looking. Also medicinal, I understand. I have a lot growing on my property, and it makes me happy to have such a weird plant. Grass is so dull, ya know? Also, Nausicaa is one of my all time favorite movies. So yay for that!
Ball like cone's likely from Monterey cypress (Hesperocyparis marcocarpa ) (though also Nootka cypress and Italian cypress are possibilities) the more pine coney one , probably scot's pine (Pinus sylvestris)
Awesome, and very inspiring... people usually tweak aquarium plants or real life woods debris and that’s about it; glad to see more people are doing terrain for Stargrave! Hoping to see some time the rusty planet...
New of this channel, the seeds that you find in your garden are part of the family of the cypress, actually, meanwhile, you were handling them I thought you were going to use it for some sort of armadillo. Nice work btw and I like the fact that there are out there others that appreciate Nausicaa ;)
15:56 This ain't no orange moss AT ALL. This is RUST. You couldn't resist now, could you? You had to weather it somehow.🤣🤣 In my country, we have a saying. The soul leaves the body first, the habit follows later. Happy Aniversary. And Happy New Year to you and your family.
Hey Bill, nice tee. I got one just like it. It's been a year already? Blimey! It only seems like yesterday that you were giving us "just the tip". Good times... good times... Now you are pushing those ideas hard into us. Here's to the next year of Making Stuff. And the next, and the next! Happy Anniversary! 🍰🎁
they look so great! i've been planning to do something similar for stargrave or 40k, wanted a collection of alien jungle with ruins scatter terrain to tie in with my eldar army. this is exactly the kind of look I wanted so thank you for the inspiration.
I wanted to say something bad on the sly, but a blend of Nausicaa and your crafting is just too good. Early Christmas feel for sure. Thanks Bill. Have a merry Christmas!

@@earlware4322 hey, there's iron in plenty of plants and they oxidize and, of course, become rust colored. Maybe Bill is just that next level.
“Orange moss” HMMNNN I WONDER WHAT THAT MEANS!

I love the color choices. Also Happy anniversary.
Thanks

thanks!
I love that movie and hope to eventually obtain the book set. Great work!
Great Job on Year of CZcams!! Well done!
I've never clicked on a video that starts with such a genuinely heartbroken intro. Very good introduction to the channel.
Forest looks cool. I think you should dunk you toxic forest into something actually toxic. Authenticity is important I think.

Chamaecyparis, specifically.
