💥FPV Dogfight - Two E-flite Vipers Duel Head-on!

- Head-tracking FPV dogfights between two E-flite Viper 90mm EDF jets using Tally-ho Head tracker and Motionsic BAG (BadAss Gimbal pan & tilt). Each RC jet starts at opposite ends of the field and merge to maneuver for a guns shot using a functional reflector sight. Head tracking FPV camera enables each pilot to intuitively track bandit through aerobatic maneuvers simply by moving his head without losing sight. It's the most immersive, realistic flying experience possible flying a RC jet!

You should absolutely install an IR gun/reciever system on each plane! Would be a lot more fun and take the guesswork out of who hit who!

@@motionsic To expand a bit further on that idea. Having several receivers on the plane for important parts which would impact the plane in different ways, for example a wing being hit reduces the input to that side by a certain %, the engine being hit once reducing power and on the second hit shutting off or a hit to the cockpit being an instant takedown.

Haha, I think 3 for 3 is a bit generous! Just felt lucky round 2 didn’t end up in a mid-air. Another 1/2 second of target fixation, it would have been a goner.

Hi Robert! Have you used INAV or Ardupilot on your Viper EDF? Can you please share your build setup. I fly FPV with fixed wings on INAV and I'm thinking to get an EDF jet and convert it to FPV.
I don’t use INAV, Ardupilot nor other flight controller. I am a complete newbie with FC. My setup is really simple. Please check the diagram in my community post.

Do you have any information on getting a long range(tbs) crossfire system working? I found MFD crossfire but it looks too big and clunky vs your setup.
That’s not what I specialize in. But plenty of people use DJI FPV for long range (13km max), using TBS or Express LRS.
@@motionsic Yeah i know. I have a TBS crossfire system and started looking into TBS Crossbow/MDF/mini but the damn thing looks way too big in relation to yours. I wanted to find out how to save space and make it smaller. I guess you no blackstar have a long ranged head tracking system out yet that's small like yours?

No. Noise is not a primary consideration. Efficiency and performance are.
@@motionsic yes i would be curious to see the increased efficiency and top speed toroidal props could offer. The reduced noise is just a bonus.. Might even increase flight time for a normal flight going the same speeds
Hello sir. I need a bit of help with this setup . I just bought the gimbal and wireless head tracker from andy rc video, also have tbs crossfire if that helps. So I’m just missing the plane and the camera. What would you recommend (first edf plane too). I have some fpv drones, helis and planes (not edf)+ i am not sure to go with the air unit or the new o3 unit because I don’t know if the o3 will fit the gimbal thing. Please help me if u can. Good first EDF jets are: Freewing T-33, L-39, Avanti and E-flite (FMS) Viper 70 mm. I like the original Air Unit since it records sound and EDF jets sound great. O3 does not record sound but the camera will fit the gimbal. The gimbal kit includes a air unit mount that fits the original air unit but not the O3 Air Unit.

Hello your videos are so much fun, i am a good pilot fpv drone racer, what plane can i take to for start? Im in europe
I like the E-flite T-28 1200mm and FMS PC-21 as good starter planes and aerobatic trainers. If you are familiar with flight controllers, use safe approach speed for landing. Find out what stall speed is up high. Then 1.3 x the stall speed for landing approach.
@@motionsic thanks for you reply, when i started drone racer, I was told to buy a lot of beginner drones, and it was easy, but I had to buy real powerful drones and now the others they are useless, I could have bought directly the best, so you confirm that we can not start with an EDF jet? I already flew little a zohd in fpv, I can not fly on sight, i like the pc-21 what is best flight time and speed? With my 7inch i fly 18min at 45mph, max 85mph
@@sebptitfpv drones do not stall, but planes do, so I don’t recommend EDF jets to start if you are not used to landing fast. And flight times are short - less than 5 minutes if you do aerobatics. If you want start with EDF’s I recommend Freewing T-33, L-39, Avanti or E-flite (FMS) Viper 70mm. You can start with Viper 90 if money is not an issue.

Guys, a crazy question: Are there RC planes out there which has real life Thrust-to-Weight ratio?
Yeah. This one we fly has better thrust to weight than real ViperJet. Not quite 1:1 but close. Many turbine RC jets has thrust to weight much higher than 1:1.

No. These are RC jets flown using head-tracking FPV cameras from cockpit, with real risk of crashing. No risk to life though.🙂

hey man, i dont understand, you put so much work into the fpv system and the concept of rc air combat is so cool, but why aren't there any guns(like paintball or smth) or other ways ways to detect if u actually shot him. I just feel like this whole thing is missing the essence :/
maybe you could develop miniature AA missiles that splatter paint when they explode, using fireworks. i was working on a concept like this when i was younger

As in ramming into other jets on purpose? The FPV equipment alone would make it cost prohibitive. I still prefer old fashioned shoot down. If I find private field where that is allowed, I’d consider it.
