      No offense, but I couldn't disagree more. I really dislike the looks of any estate, and a performance estate is a bit sacrilegious. They're just big boxes with bad physics for performance. I'm not saying you can't personally like them, I'm just saying I would much rather prefer a sleeker and better looks saloon, which is still plenty practical.

Modern saloons are extremely spacious, practical and have enormous boots. Especially liftbacks such as the Audi A7 or AMG GT 4-door, which are just as accomodating as an estate. They are just as practical as estates, but don't look as bad.

    • @magnustan841
      @magnustan841 Před 2 lety +3

      Oh yeah, estates are not completely overrated, but the hype within the enthusiasts community is a bit much. I mean, they say SUVs suck, because they’re not aerodynamic and their bigger bodies mean more raw materials, increased environmental impact and costs, blah, blah, blah. Estates have slightly better aero performance, but I’m sure they require a similar amount of raw materials to build. The only benefit of estates over SUVs for the enthusiast, is the lower CG and more sporty handling. So the argument is ever so slightly invalid and all the noise is them just trying to convince people outside the enthusiast community to come round to their way of thinking and buy estates instead of SUVs, because most diehard car lovers are selfish.

      @@magnustan841 SUV are for superficial people that take style over substance and most will never use it for its intended purpose. For most that don't actually need an SUV the estate is far better proposition, better in terms of emissions not only for running costs but in manufacture too, handles and drives better and they are way more practical with usually more luggage space and lower load height, great for getting dogs in and out (which is why I have one). Also choose the right one and they look better than most SUVs!

    • @yissibiiyte
      @yissibiiyte Před 2 lety +3

      To be truthfully honest, an estate is also sacrilegious to good handling, low drag etc. Even though they're lower than SUVs, they'll still completely the wrong shape. If you want real handling, get a saloon or even a hatchback, and they're practicality really isn't that much worse. An estate is never really necessary, it's still a compromise to the physics of performance, just like an SUV, and they're uglier than a regular saloon or liftback.

    Rory never disappoints. He gives one a proper assessment of a car that wouldn't make the headline. Rather than simply conclude that the Cupra is VW in automotive drag, Rory gives it a fair assessment. He compares and contrasts the car against VW’s Golf Estate R. He also critically assesses San estate platform against SUV; in both instances he is both candid and spot on. In the end -- just as in all reviews Rory makes -- I weigh his assessment and recommendations. I trust him and simply enjoy the quality of his reviews.
    One last thing. Sometimes, Rory is surprisingly Shakespearean. His presentations play out in a polished English form. There are those elements of storytelling, language, humor, and wisdom. Each is baked into a car review. Brilliant.

    It can easily give a reality check to the Audi S5, which has a bigger 3.0 Turbo V6, and it can do 0-100 in 4.8 seconds, and this Cupra Leon estate is powered with a smaller 2.0 turbo 4-cyl engine and can do 0-100 in 4.9 seconds, which is so much from a small engine, as compared to the Audi S5's big 3.0 V6, which is just 0.1 seconds faster than the Cupra Leon estate..

      Different horses for different courses. Plus, where is there a rule saying “car guys / enthusiasts must love estates/wagons and hate SUVs”? I’ve never heard of that. It’s a community, we share preferences, debate them at times, but everyone should be respectful of each other. As Josh Revell says, don’t be a manus.

    • @yissibiiyte
      @yissibiiyte Před 2 lety +2

      I'll tell you how, because I couldn't agree with Rory more. Estates are completely overrated and I can't stand how everyone is supposed to love them for absolutely no reason. They are hideous to look at. I don't care what you say, the estate version of a car is always so much uglier than its equivalent sedan or hatchback. You can't deny a sedan is so much better looking than an estate. Secondly, the physics of an estate are terrible for performance. They're just big, heavy boxes. Again, a sedan or hatchback is so much better in terms of aerodynamics, handling etc.
      Thirdly, despite how everyone preaches about it, they're not even that practical. An estate is hardly any more practical than a reasonably sized family saloon. Modern saloons are extremely spacious, practical and have huge boot space. Especially cars that are actually liftbacks such as an Audi A7 or AMG GT 4-door, which have a boot that is just as enormous, accessible and accomodating as an estate's.
      Estates are big and ugly, they're physics are off and they're practicality isn't even that amazing. Estates are completely overrated. There's little an estate can do that a practical sedan can't, except look much uglier and handle much worse. (Sorry for the long rant, I didn't mean anything personally or maliciously.)

      @@magnustan841 @Yissi Biiyte Estates aren’t as good looking as their saloon/sedan equivalents but the added practicality and decent performance makes them a great all rounder, also SUV’s these days aren’t made for what SUV’s are supposed to do, even with off roaring tyres they have no hope, i’m not arguing here cos i’m not a massive estate fan but some estates are cool and some SUV’s are cool, at the end of the day we are all petrol heads so that should be what unites us as opposed to our preferences

      @pangolin83 Před 2 lety +2

      @@yissibiiyte Try putting a chest of draws in a saloon car's boot, not even that practical my arse. The estate just said it has 200L more boot space, 200L, that's half of a normal saloon's boot by itself so an estate is a saloon with a more practical hatch, what's not to like

  • @ge1971
    @ge1971 Před rokem

    Just ordered a hybrid estate - enjoyed the review but laughed a lot at the comments because I'm the complete opposite - I absolutely HATE the SUV style that seems to have saturated the market, but have a need for a bit of practicality, so this is perfect for me; and the PHEV option is a no brainer for my current lifestyle.
    I must be in a minority because after spending a few days talking to dealers and doing some research it seems most makers are going down the route of pushing SUV for future models. Even those who currently have other options (eg Skoda) have put orders on hold so they can deal with SUV orders as a priority.
    When you throw those things together the options available to someone who wants a reasonable sized car, with decent boot space in a PHEV are very very few - I left many showrooms within seconds of saying "not an SUV" 😂
    Looks like a decent car, hopefully it'll do me for the next 4 years 🤞👍
