- The new DS 9 E-TENSE 360 is a hybrid saloon, one that shares it's name with the DS Formula E car. With 360hp and tech passed down from the racing car, Rory finds a race track to see how the DS 9 responds to some spirited driving. #E-Vember

Love how much attention they've put into the details. Seems like a more old-money approach to luxury which is sadly absent these days. Nice Film!
Interesting take on an interesting car. Love your channel!
This car isn't focussed on the details any more than the three big German brands its aiming at. The difference is this car, along with all the other DS models, is that its overloaded with little gimmicky shapes, glitters and rhinestones, which in my opinion make it look childish and cheap. And i think the market agrees because I rarely see one of then out in traffic.
@@janb3938 Yeah because it's untraditional these days. Germans aiming only on brand name but you cannot see this type of details anymore. What I see is only thousands of brainless sheeps who cries for hype or already known cars, don't pretend people are clever. They are not especially with modern technology their use of brain capacity is much lower. Car industry is one of expample how ill market could destroy quality and tradition. This is more individualistic, more special than the rest. What seems childish is your pitiful try to dehonest such a revived brand like DS. I'll bet you can hardly afford something like that.
"Pirouette" which is French for... "pirouette"
Excellent as always, Rory
That's a damn fine looking car from all angles.
French diplomatic cars really should be this.
They have DS7 Crossback
Impossible cause "Made in China"
They are at least in my country
@@andresramirez9862 which country ?
@@Antoineforum Colombia, and the corean embassy here has hyundai/genesis cars. It’s kinda cool to see those unusual cars riding around
Gorgeous car. DS just need to be a bit more confident in their branding. With luxury, you need recognition.
Agreed, they're not aggressive in the marketing, at all.
So, true.
Honestly I'd pivot and consider buying this if I was in the market for a brand new premium entry level luxury car. It's lovely. Hopefully it's well built enough too.
@S. Pal So it's needed before it gains said recognition then ?
this is gorgeous? looks like a sonata to me
I feel like this car is very underrated yet amazingly gorgeous
Don’t you think it’s a little bit overstyled? Just to hide the design similarities with an audi (front) and a mercedes (back)?
@@CandyMan2001 are you blind? In the front, look at the shape and the proportions of grill and headlights, very similar to an Audi A5/A6. Then look at the three quarter back view (5:45) and you will see that sloped roofline is identical to Mercedes CLA or CLS.
it is lovely, I recently reviewed the 1.6l petrol in base trim and I found it really nice
@@CandyMan2001 nope, I’ve been very specific with what design details I see that are very similar to other models, I didn’t just say “they are similar”
@@sawdust1287 finally! Someone who has eyes lol. The front is 100% copied from the A5, I think the rear is more Lexus ES however
This looks so beautiful
Is it form over substance though?
It looks like an over-styled clash between and audi A5 (front) and a generic Mercedes Benz (rear)
@@seanjohnston9619 No mate, you are.
I’m sure the 3 people who buy one of these will love it
At least they wont be breaking down in German cars.
They'll be breaking down in a French one :)
@@captainwin6333 Citroens aren't very reliable and this shares a lot of Citroen parts...
@@TD1237 my Citroen C4 Grand Picasso was flawless for 6 years
People's saying that citroen/peugeot are not reliable still live in 1990's
Watching this from The States. This kind of looks like a Honda Accord and Lexus ES had a baby. If only this could come to the U.S.
I'm pretty sure Chrysler will have its version of it sharing the Stellantis family
@@trthib Hope not. Let the brands have their own designs and personalities.
Rory, this is by far the best review of DS 9! and the shots, as well as the car in black, are amazing!
really happy to see and hear that DS cars have "that something more" than just an insane amount of "french haute couture and hand craftsmanship" in the interior styling... and even with DS 9, which is so to say a "transition car" with which they didn't go "all the way". new DS 4 is far bigger "step further" in all respects... looking forward to you testing it!
To be honest. This is one fine car. The look of it is really nice!
That thing looks outrageously stunning.
I was ready to sneer, but now I want one
I love this car. I must admit since Rover went under (which is still a massive tragedy all these years later) I haven't really been interested in luxury saloons. No one every really seemed to try anything different or interesting. Plus so many always seem to try and be sporty over everything else, BMW are particularly bad for that.
This Citroën has changed that. What a glorious thing. It's old school luxury and I love that, it's also absolutely beautiful. If I was told to go out and buy a brand new saloon, this would absolutely be it.
I think you missed the Lexus LS, that's pretty much old school luxury
Did you go to spec savers?
How can you even mention Rover as a luxury saloon and dismiss Jaguar? I think sentiment has triumphed over sensibility good Sir.
@@gregoryuk I'll admit find memories of the Rover 75 (and it's MG sister car) do play a large factor. '99 2.5V6 in Wedgwood Blue, it clocked 327k miles. It never went wrong, the ride was exceptional and it was an extremely pretty car. It was much better made than any Jaguar we've had in the family. Rover may have been dragged down to making little hatches that should've been Austins etc, but everytime they made a big wafty saloon it was exceptional. It's what they were good at.
We had a Daimler XJ40 which was a fabulous thing but it was also catastrophically unreliable. When it comes down to it if Rover were still here making a large luxury car I'd choose it over a Jag any day.
@@SpitfireFortyFour I remember my Vitesse Sport , nightfire red, lovely car for comfortable driving but it was prone to issues.
J'adore ta façon de dire "clou de Paris".......😀
This car looks very nice, and a genuine good effort from Citroen. 👍🏻
I don’t think it would get me out of my M340i, but it’s the first time in ages they’ve made a car that wouldn’t make me feel a bit sad every time I look at it on the drive.
I hope they keep up the good work.
I love my peugeot 508 2019. Also fast french beast
Looking forward to you testing it again on the road. Looks great!
Finally a review that really makes us feel the vibe of the car
I also reviewed the DS9 if you wish to see it?
Love this car, smart , classy, comfortable , powerful
You should see the 1.6l base model
Man I like you rich vocabulary. That’s a very educated car review! Very different sounding from most car reviews on here. Words like avant-garde or the remarks on the pearl stitching…! Thank you! I’m not a big fan of the DS though. However I won’t turn it down!
We🇺🇸 WANT THIS‼️🙏🏽
That is a very nice and interesting car. DS have really changed their image of late. I like all their new products. Def worth a look if you have the cash.
I love how knowledgeable you are, gotta sub
This is a work of art, stunning car.
I wish these companies like Renault , DS , Citroen ect would be available in the us market
There is a decent chance the future Chrysler Sedan will share most of its components with this car actually
@@trthib Yes but the DS brand would be exotic and European, the Chrysler badge would kill everything and be bought only by old people. I would totally consider buying this car in the US if it was offered as a DS, but with the Chrysler badge on it never unfortunately
@@Oklm23 Actually in France, you are considered as an old person if you are buying a Citroën
@@gerarddesuresnes3475 Stop calling it a Citroen lol, it's a PSA product I get it but people that buy Toyota and people that buy Lexus are very different. Same applies here and this car along with the DS4 and DS7 Crossback would do really well in the US imo
@@Oklm23 in the imagination of us French people, DS is Citroën because it used to be just a type of Citroën cars. Basically the "Citroën DS3" was a more expensive version of the "Citroën C3" with a different body.
They shared a lot of parts, the Dashboard and steering wheel were the same, with just the logo changing.
So yeah of course we still see DS like that now that it is a standalone brand
Not a bad looking car.. It I'll do.. Once again Mr Reid thank you for your continued contribution in helping us to make the right decision in choosing the right transportation.. Well done to you sir..
The DS9 is a surprisingly beautiful French luxury car. I like the moving front light and the guilloche on the wood. the design of the car is beautiful. the interior of the car is beautiful.
It is very quirky, I found soo many diamond shapes throughout the cars design when I reviewed it
Love the geeky details keep it up lad!
The attention to detail is on another level compared to German rivals
they still wont sell 1/10th of the germans
@@Mizan215 Crossovers sell more than wagons, does that mean they are better?
@@Schervin considering car purchases a hugely subjective and people decide with their wallets. For most people, yes crossovers are better.
Citroen is like primark trying to compete with Hugo Boss or timex with Longines
@@Mizan215 You clearly didn't get the point, Crossovers are not better than wagons, they're less efficient and comfortable, but they sell more, people buy them for status, most people buy german cars for status too, that doesn't mean a mid range 5 series is better than DS9 (considering the same price tag)
@@Schervin I didn’t realise car companies where there to tell you what you want rather then give you what you want
Interesting way to say French names / words. A great looking and finished car.
Hands down he's the greatest presenter out there for cars
Love this car and the DS brand
Looks amazing
Rory can review anything at this point. Not just cars. Would like to see you doing some documentaries on tv as well!
Awesome car, great review, and amazing camerawork. Specifically 7:47 is an amazing shot!
From the front looks like an Audi A5 had a baby with Peugeot 3008 from the back looks like a Mercedes Cls. Looks good tho
Yep exactly what I thought. Nice car
😂😂 that's what i thought man 🤦🏼
Looks good? It looks brilliant! In that regard, it blows the Germans away. Lexus runs it close though.
It's a Peugeot 508 but a bit longer and a different front end. Glorious looking car, like the Peugeot.
Interior is great! Don’t think this will sell very well but DS is going in the right direction.
The interior is great! I was told in Scotland their goal is to sell 1 a month. As of the end of 2021 they hadn't sold any...
Lovely car good luck taking on the establishment, they need to up their marketing presence and maybe get the endorsement of some A listers.
Vive la difference!
Great video Rory, nice to see a high spec one.
I recently reviewed the 1.6l performance line model, it was not as nicely appointed as the model you tested (very dark inside like a M sport BMW). The rotating headlights are the coolest feature!
Beautiful, also well built. I like it.
Thank god someone is bringing something different to the market other than super conservative styled German cars. Lets hope some of the buying public stop following the herd and make themselves a more individual and interesting purchase. Also German cars although very nice, are no more reliable than a Ford or Citroen according to warranty direct and JD Power Surveys.
Different? I see a pastiche between an Audi A5/A6 on the front and a Mercedes CLA/CLS in the back... but with A LOT of shiny chrome plating because "luxury"
@@sawdust1287 modern pedestrian crash safety and wind tunnel testing do mean that most vehicles have a similar shape these days. French cars always had a nice ride compared to the more harsh and hard set up of German cars. The French also have a different approach to style and luxury. And luxury means different things in different parts of the World, its definition will vary. American luxury in terms of automobiles is about large dimensions, effortless power and lots of gadgets. The British like wood and leather wrapped in a smaller more taught body and tech. The Italians know how to proportion and style a body nicely and build a more form over function style of luxury, along with charterful engines and some higher levels of tech.
Stellantis is on a roll! It will take time to establish a French luxury brand.
It's a true goddess on the roads. Really eye-catching. I got myself a DS4 Performance Line. Hope Rory is going to make a video of that too. I never had so many attention from others on the road lol..... :P. It's super comfortable, the seats are lovely and comfy. It's not designed to take bends with high speeds, but on the motorways, Sport-Mode is quite good as well. DS main focus is luxury with comfort, not sporty/performance.... That is what a lot of people totally forget these days.
Germans always more reliable than Ford come on
Beautiful inside and out. Very impressive.
My God, what kind of daft question is that?? Rory, bud, your pronunciation made my day. What was it? Hurmez? Bregooet? 😂🤣🤣
Great review. Good that you put a bright spotlight on an under-illuminated car.
I love it I want one
Lets remember 5he original DS of the 50's had swivelling headlights (Citroen were always innovating while the others played it safe) - guess the swivelling reflectors in this new one are a nod to the history, just like the high level indicators.
If I remember correctly, only the top of the range DS Pallas had the “see round corners”lights.
DS 4 , DS 7 ,DS 9 Großartig und alle in ihrer Klasse die schönsten und feinsten und komfortabel
Good review, interesting to watch
DS are the new SAAB as everything they make look good
This is a beautiful car.
Oh no, those lights. One year in Finland with -20° celsius and some water and moist inside those lights, and they will not rotate at all.
Grear review, and a very nice car
I walk into a French Garçons Du Pep and say, “One E-tense headlamp s’il vous plait.” The bereted counter man says, “That will be 2000 euros s’il vous plait.”
Indeed...
very cool ....now I'm off to autotrader to find cheap v6 c5 😁😁
YES! finally what deserve to be shown here! I've got the 5' Hybrid and the Ds automobiles it's something else.
excelent content!!
The backside looks great. I get S class coupe vibes from it, which is a good thing.
It should have come with the anti roll system the old Citroen Xantia had for better speed around the corners! :)
Absolute beautiful car, love the DS9 and all the other Citroën cars😍
Great Review Rory. Traded my 2020 508 Fastback, (had from new) to a 71 plate DS9 Rivoli 225! Loved the 508, till I blew the turbo! Now love my DS9! To the point were I want to find an excuse to just go for a drive. Can you remember the last time you wanted to do that?
I really hope Stellantis brings this over to the US
They won't. It'll barely leave France.
Rebadge as a Chrysler , maybe lol
Rebadged as a Chrysler Lebaron GTS
Well even we frechmans dont really take DS seriously as a luxury brand, just buy an e class or a tesla you'll be better of
@@eroche913 barely leave France? It's designed for the Chinese market as most DS, you won't see many in France.

Late brake show!
I was about to look for one..
That's exactly what I was thinking.
Best presenter of car reviews.
REALLY love the back design, reminds me a lot of an E-class coupé
it is really nice, remember the Laguna coupe?
That's a stunning car
So we’re just gonna ignore the odd looking orange post-production ejector seat button? 😆🤦🏽♂️
😂
This is Beautifull. I love it.
Built in China and powered by the POS Peugeot Prince engine the depreciation will be unbelievable on these.
Now that they also have Maserati in Stellantis how about a Quattroporte/DS11?
Will you be reviewing the new ds4 anytime soon ?
What a stunning car!
DS is killing it
Frenchie's Audi on the front, Lexus on the back
The french Lexus ES
Fantastic, it looks like the high-end design of the 2015 Peugeot 508 RXH. I want one
Excellent ❤
Love this ! But I do wish it had a 6cyl engine of some sorts as an option.
6 cyl diesel engine with a manual transmission and i'd love it.
yeah but sadly none of the French brands have been doing any interesting engines in the recent years. The only way it could happen is if they took a V6 from one of the american brands of Stellentis. Would probably not comply to EU emissions laws so it just won't happen
You probably need to go looking for older cars. Nobody is developing engines anymore.
As soon as the current engines fall out of emisions it will be all electric.
unfortunately, i fear "this is not the way"...
@@FreFa-ch in Europe, and ESPECIALLY on France. V6 have always been sales failures. People want 4 cylinders no matter what
That is a beauty of a car!
citroen is like from the future design they are amazing👏
I love DS...Citroen has always been incredibly innovative.
they have, the rotating clock is very cool
Great video... Impressive finish.... it looks a lot like a BMW French kissed a Lexus... so it should have wider market appeal.
After 50 years owning Citroens (C4 Cactus + 2CV Charleston at present) - I think I would rather the classic rakishness and chic of the Citroen C6.
True French style and individuality... which was the hallmark of the DS....
My last question - where is this manufactured??
In China😝
What's the actual colour of the interior as I like that.
It is Bordeaux red
Looks almost the exact same as Porsche’s “espresso” color
Good luck DS, you deserve it.
The rear 3/4 profile is giving me infinity/ Saab ng 9-5 vibes 👍
Guilloche & Breguet. Rhymes with the oshe in ocean and the ay in hay.
It's a damn shame that Citroen ditched their hydropneumatic suspension...which was the biggest reason to buy one of their big cars, and it would fit better in DS cars than anything else...
Isnt it heavier ?
@@TheThink5op so? It isn't a sports car anyway.
@@rezwan6613 fuel economy, handling, safety ? Weight is a car's enemy
Seeing a Long version with rear suicide doors would be awesome!
I've always considered Citroën to be a brand for the elderly (like Mercedes ans above all Audi) but I must admit DS, despite an ugly logo, is making incredible cars, I don't know how Peugeot will end! Thanks for the excellent video, another one! At this stage I think you are the boss and Matt Watson will soon come to ask you for tips (Matt is pretty powerful too).
Yess..I dont't want a saloon with 400+ hp to comute to work, Hope more company will start focusing more on comfy ride and feel good interior rather than who can go 0 to 60 the fastest
Buy a Mercedes’ e300. Problem solved
just buy mercedes then.
@@garretlewis2661 Which also costs like 50k
@@-SP. it's not like a DS9 costs 25k though. According to a french website on electric/hybrid cars, the 360 Hp version tested here is starting at 65 500€.
That is, in my opinion, way too expensive for it to be a real commercial success. They will probably sell a few in China, and a handfull in France as company cars.
It will be remembered in a few years with "that was a great car, it's a wonder nobody bought these back then"
Btw DS is a standalone brand now, not a citroen sub-branch anymore
Beautiful motor
Loving the Swiss horology pronunciations.
French car design has really hit its stride again
Indeed, pegouet and Citroën are on form at the moment, and Renault sees to bring a lot of great stuff soon, not to mention the alpine 🤩
Whats up with the very out of place button to the right of the display?
Good looking car 😊👍
PSA has definitely its mojo back
It'll depreciate like a stone compared to the German competition.
It's just so hard to sell used french premium cars. There just aren't many people wanting to buy them so they go for cheap.
What brand is that Jumper? Looks like a stags head emblem?
love the car
I think this car would have been better tested on the road. It's a luxurious, comfortable "cruising" car, so I'm surprised AT did this test exclusively on a smooth race circuit (the kind of place you take a GT3 RS to). When is the road review coming?
