    I like that Citroen have gone done the comfort route, they've gone back to making the most comfortable cars like they did in the 80s and nothing wrong with that IMO.

  • @wojciechmuras553

    So, basically, it's a competitor to the entry-level ID3 Pure. Same pricing, similar range, comparable dimensions. ID3 offers sportiness, while ë-C4 offers comfort. From my point of view, I'd go for the Citroën.

    • @marcuswoodgate4026
      @marcuswoodgate4026 Před 3 lety +16

      From a quality point of view go for the Citroën, I know that might sound odd but the Citroën has a lot more soft touch plastics. The ID3 is all hard plastic.

      @JackLondonen Před 2 lety +5

      And they just improved Citroen's (Stellantis group's) electric car's charging curve's so you can reach 90% of charging in 37minutes. That is something ID3 can only dream of.

    • @wojciechmuras553
      @wojciechmuras553 Před 2 lety

      @@SidBonkers51 No, 90% of braking force comes from engine recouperation. Many EVs have their braking discs rust to dust before they're ever needed, so VW used a much more durable design - drums.

    • @SidBonkers51
      @SidBonkers51 Před 2 lety +1

      @@wojciechmuras553 Sorry I just dont buy that Wojcech, I drive a hybrid so am well aware of regenerative braking but that doesnt help when you have to stop fast in an emergency situation and it seems to me that VW were the last manufacturer to included disks all round to their small cars and now theyre the first to reintroduce drums on the rear as a cost cutting exercise at the possible expense of safety.

      My dad has a BX (GT 16 valve I think?) fom 1989 and it is incredibly comfortable. I was born in 2002 so of course am too young to remember em on the road but its the most comfortable car I've ever been in. It takes a minute to rise once you start it up and it's awesome the way it slowly floats up from its wheels. The seats are really padded and supportive of your back and sides. And when you're finished the suspension gently falls down again and it sits really low on it wheelarches, making it look very sporty despite being an ordinary family car from the 80s.

    you're a brilliant auto journalist because you can analyse a car from the perspective of what their purpose is designed to be rather than simply benchmarking everything off a theoretical race car you can't drive - the difference in your case being that you can drive everything, including the hypothetical race car! In any case, driving skill is independent of the car, and so you can "hustle" this car, whereas some auto journalists have no idea, without being in the "right" car..

    We have had ours for a month now and covered about 800km. Your review is a very good summary of the car and its features. The highlights are the comfort, it is very quiet, easy to drive, well laid out for the most part and can perform if needed. There are a few irritating things about it, the range is an issue for long journeys until we can be sure of a reliable and frequent charge network. For normal running about however, the range is more than adequate as you can either charge every night, or as we do once a week. I would also have liked it to have the traction control options from other Citroens with the snow mode and be fitted with all season tyres (it can get very difficult for us to get out when it snows) The back of the car is quite high so closing the boot means you have to use the internal hand holds and a self closer option would be nice. The is more than big enough for the day t o day shopping runs but for a full family would be a tight squeeze for holidays. The app is rather basic and can be temperamental, it doesn't seem to sync all the journeys and is rather limited. One really good feature is you can preheat the car so no more snow and ice to clear off the windscreen. I absolutely love driving it and so long as you don't expect to use it for 500mile trips it works very well.

      not sure where 500 miles comes from but this generation of cars is only good for between 200 and 300km or less if really cold and lots of short trips. Definitely not any good if you go long distances regularly

As for me, being in America, I am so jealous of all the great auto choices you have in the UK. I would love to have the option of buying a Puma ST or an Audi RS3! As it is, I have to settle for dorky Civic R's that may drive great but look like something that would actually be more attractive under a car cover. Also you have cool estate cars in a plethora of sizes and shapes. The only worthwhile ones we have are 50k+!!! The RS6 Avant, 100K!!! Ford won't even sell any cars over here anymore. All you can get from them are SUVs and F-150s.

    I am pleased that Citroen is returning to its previous ideology of making cars comfortable to drive, and a suspension that allows this. The firm "sporty" suspension of so many cars is ok is you want to drive quickly but actually, you shouldn't be driving quickly. Roads are not always well maintained either. Some years ago I owned the quirky Citroen Visa, it was one of the best little cars ever. The suspension was amazing.

    @danclarke2305 Před rokem +2

    @08.00 'has a range of 217 miles...' - I agree, you'll never achieve 217 miles. Even the Citroen website configuration calculator will confirm that best range is achieved by the following: Driving an average of 30mph in Eco mode and with an ambient air temperature of 20c. I had to drive one in January from Scotland - it did not reach 100miles even from 100% despite driving it at 55mph in Eco mode - in Eco mode there is no heating and the temperature was -1c. Having a 50kwh battery on this size car is not big enough. The ride was nice tbf! The iD3 has much more range in similar conditions and is far better ev - you may wish to consider the Cupra Born.

    Rolls-Royce did buy patent from Citroen back in 1960's, when Citroen DS was roaring the roads, known for its hydraulic suspension which were a technical breakthrough back in the days. So, no surprise if the suspension in Citroen feels like RR.

    Great, intelligent, professional review as always. The car is really terrific, apart from the silly slopy back, which just reduces load space. Love the focus on driving comfort, not daft speeding. Ridiculous price for the EV and unfortunately, due to reliability, no chance to buy the ICE version. Good old Citroen, making dream cars you don't want to buy.

      Where I live there are 30 percent EVs, and they seem to be pretty reliable. The only thing that is expensive is changing batteries.

    French cars of old were all famous for the comfort of the seats. good to see Citroen pushing that point again.

    I like the PSA take on EVs. Unlike most car manufacturers that chose to have special EV lines that are different from their petrol models, PSA chose to create chassis that could work for petrol, hybrid and 100% electric cars.
    Now let's talk about how PSA is dealing with their Citroen brand. They already released beautiful Peugeot cars and Amazing DS cars (that used to be Citroen cars) and I was wondering how they would market their Citroen cars. And it's quite genius to work on Citroen's legacy by using Old Citroen as a reference for their design and by maxing out on comfort (Citroen suspension systems are quite popular for their comfort).
    I personnaly believe that Citroen cars look hideous specially on the front side but I guess it's a matter of taste and they seem to be influenced by the chinese market.
    With that said, now that PSA merged with FCA and became Stellantis, I'm actually eager to see what will they do with the FIAT brand. It has been a LONG TIME since I was impressed by a FIAT. Last time I guess it was the release of the Grande Punto back in 2005.

    Thank you for useful review! Based also on this review we have decided to buy e-C4 and we are more than satisfied! After longer trip we see that after we shutdown the car and exit the vehicle, we still hear like fans are running for some time. It is because battery is asking for cooling? Does anybody know? Thanks!

    My wifes Fiesta has a wireless phone charging pad, I have an old Galaxy S7 and thats too big to fit on it so won't charge, good old Ford lol.
    This E-C4 is a 100 times better than the C4 we had, and starting at £21k puts it in the lower EV priced cars so a step in the right direction.

    I simply love an easy and light steering in a run of the mill everyday car 90% of us are driving on a daily basis.. Sure, it probably doesn't give you that sporty feeling but i bet you're doing more parking and turning in a day than you do sports driving in a year... Why all cars don't give me the ability of "one finger steering"?

    • @Jonathan_Doe_
      @Jonathan_Doe_ Před 2 lety

      Fiat gave you the option of both with their ‘city’ button, but unfortunately that generation of punto struggled with power steering failure. Pretty scary when the steering gets heavy randomly mid turn without warning.
