Had my Formentor about 4 months now & love it, coming from an Audi SQ5 I was dubious but it has impressed me, a new SQ5 top spec would of cost nearly twice the VZ2 310 price, the infotainment screen gets easier to use with practice & voice control is a nice touch especially at night. Wake phrase is Hola Hola then say for example temperature 26⁰ & hey presto it's nice & toasty, at high speed the road noise can be a bit loud but apparently that's the Bridgestone tyres as other owners with different tyres don't seem to have that issue, using 2 fingers to tap temp slider brings heated seats on, the car has follow home lights to illuminate into corners, auto dip that can be cancelled to stay on full beam, boot release with foot waved under car,
The ACC adaptive cruise control is spooky at 1st as it slows down & speeds up , it also keeps you between lines & turns by itself, spooky at high speeds, everywhere you go it turns heads & people come over to ask what is it, overall a great car that likes to be driven hard & sedately equally, a car for any mood,
Cool review, congrats for this nice car !
Love my VZ2 310, mines fitted with Goodyear Eagle F1 tyres and they suit the car very well.
I wish I had more free time to watch all the reviews you upload, absolutely stunning work. Kudos to the entire team behind the channel.
I think Rory is on a class of his own reviewing cars with his ability to watch the road and look at the camera at the same time.
I work in a SEAT&Cupra dealer and in my opinion these cars are not too bad, The majority of it's let down is the software that seems to have a lot of issues but with a lengthy update in the workshop can be fixed to go on to be a fully functioning vehicle.
Great review as always. After having my 310 for only two weeks, I agree with everything here. It looks like nothing else on the road. The auto-downshift blips are just the icing on the cake, as are the lights at night (plus I got 38mpg on a motorway trip recently).
What are auto down shift blips?
@@NickLiang when it automatically changes down a gear (in Sport DSG mode), you get a tiny blip of revs.

Very nice car. I love the physical buttons on the wheel it now just needs them for the HVAC. Nice review. Keep up the good work.
Formentor is north of Mallorca. Beautiful part of the island been there a few times. Amazing views
I’ve just bought a Formentor VZ 310 AWD and I love it. I’ve driven 1000km to Switzerland with my snow tyres and I have to say I almost prefer it to our Audi Q5. The Audi is more spacious but the Formentor is definetly more fun as you can see in this video. It runs exactly as it’s describe here and it’s very confortable in long distances.
I was thinking about buying this car for a while, after this review i went out and bought the VZ2 310… and im loving it!
Ty so much. Ive been trying to find a review about the interior quality over time!!
I hate those small noises that appear over time. 😂 good work ty
Great review - engaging, impartial and informative, above all enjoyable and personable style! Cheers!!!

Great job on the long term reviews!!! Really helpful when making purchasing decisions!
This car looks amazing i recently seen it in my town and it definitely got my attention, i also think that is very well priced car for what you get in return.
I have been driving the Formentor for 3 months. My best car so far. Fun and suitable for everyday use.
I think this is a cracking car; if I needed a bigger car for the family (and I had the money) I'd probably be making a bee-line for one of these 👍
Cupra formentor is my dream car thanks for the great review,,...definitely my next car...
We love you man, and we love and appreciate your reviews!
I've been hoping for a few months that Cupra would use an RS3 engine in the Formentor and I CAN'T BELIEVE IT'S HAPPENING!
During the driving chapter, when heh mentioned suspension during Cupra mode, the obvious trick is to disable esp to help. Great review with a fresh ton of voice, very good job
Just ordered a VZ3 in matte petrol blue, thanks for the great review, looking forward to trying it out.
Yes I like it.. They do stand out.. Cool car a couple of these pasted me on the motorway 🛣..!!. Test drive is in order I presume.. Thank you for pointing out the flaws.. Once again Mr Reid job well done.. Blessed.
Really "knocked it out of the hat" 😁with this review ! Great work!
Thanks once again Rory for a straightforward, honest, no frills review.
Always Appreciated!
Seems I'm not the only South African who would buy a Cupra over the competition.
Yeah bro, definitely. I would too.
i love this car it looks amazing and also I liked the background music
Great review, looking forward to test driving this and the hybrid version soon
Just received my VZ2 couple of days ago and I love it. Agree with everything you said in the video. The UI has a learning curve but I am already starting to understand it.
Love the introduction 🔥🔥😎
Rory's reviews have been on point lately. Funny how he loves drift mode 😂😂😂
Cool video, feels honest and you look super happy with it, yeap, mine arrives at the end of this month , cant wait, nice upgrade from my cx5 mazda 2018
Yeah I know…..
Absolutely fantastic presentation. Love ur enunciation For-Men-Tor.
Hello,
I got my Formentor VZ few weeks ago and I figured out the Infotainment right away. It is super intuitive if you are smart enough. This car is flying. 🚀
Great review. Enjoyed your style.
I was following one along a very twisty b road not so long ago, in my NC with a lot of upgrades to suspension, geometry and power. He was going pretty well. I could easily keep up and could have passed, but it was impressive for that type of car.
We had a jaguar e pace with similar power and the formentor would leave it for dead!
Think the E Pace will be a lot heavier…they weigh more than the F Pace!
Another great review from you Rory. It’s a great looking car.
Nice one. I have a Special Edition Launch Model. I have added a Tuning Box with Extra 54bhp and it is absolutely mental. Having had a Golf R and Cupra Ateca, I must say I enjoy the Formentor more.
What is the tuning you had done?
We just got back from a 16 day tour of Europe and we rented a Formentor from Liigu there. Drove it nearly 3000 miles and there is a lot to like about that car. Firstly, I had never even heard of SEAT or Cupra OR Formentor. Had no idea what I was getting as I originally booked a Peugeot 3008, but they switched it up on me and I got the Formentor instead. So, totally new car experience. The entertainment system was a total pain to get figured out and it took over half the trip to understand it. That could definitely be improved. As for the rest of the car, the trunk (boot) had enough room but the shade was a pain so we removed it when putting bags back there as the back window isn't all that big and we needed to be able to see out so we wouldn't get rear ended on the Autobahn. But this car was NICE to drive! Loved it. We got the 4cyl turbo, so not sure where that fits in on the model scale, but it had plenty of power! It was fun to drive for sure. Handled great, great power, and the seats were amazingly comfortable. So much so that my wife and I both commented on the amount of driving we did and our backsides never hurt once. The gas mileage seemed pretty darned good as well. I really enjoyed driving it. The entertainment system, not so much. I told my wife if they had these in the States, I might consider buying one, it was that fun to drive.
I can fully agree on all said. I dont have any issues with the controls of the climate control or the infotainment, but that may be due to my job (Trainer at Volkswagen ^^). Overall this car is probably the best allround car i ever had. Comfy, sporty, economy friendly, design, functionality etc. Been to Florence on vacation and people took fotos of me when waiting at traffic lights. Amazing and beautiful car the Formentor is. And a bang on review by Rory once again. love you folks keep on doing your great job! Cheers m8!
Thanks for the honest review. Getting my Formentor next Saturday and I agree after a test spin: The Infotainment is not the best, typical VAG. Still stoked though!
Did you get it and how are you finding it?.. I found the Cupra connect app quite fiddly👍
Read a manual. It is one of the joys of car ownership. Cockpit familiarisation. You are missing out if you don’t know how to work your car. You have had this how long exactly? Good review. Good points about suspension, too many built for the track, not the road.
Can't stopping watching your reviews of all the cars I am very poor guy I can't buy any car Which you reviewed yet and I am going to. but still your all the reviews are very addictive, wonderful like movies the perfect blend of cars and comments awesome 😍 I like it
Formentor actually refers to a part of Mallorca, which has this same name, it has nothing to do with Formentera
Yes, there is a bit of a clue that the TV advert was filmed on the road to the Formentor lighthouse. Doh!
The Cap de Formentor is a beautiful road in Mallorca
Rozzas idea makes more sense tho, Ibiza and all that
Well, I guess you should get your money back 😂
yeah it´s a Cape of Mallorca
One of the best Products they have put out 👊
Now you've got a great understanding of the 310 petrol. I'd really love it if you could do a video on the 245 hybrid version. Would be great to know how much of the driving experience you sacrifice for the PHEV benefits.
80% 😂
Check out the Joe Achielles review of Leon 245 hybrid 😬
@@christianolsen9781 thanks mate. I actually ended up ordering the 310 petrol which should be arriving any time soon. Buyer's remorse thinking about the fuel costs now but I saw that Joe slated the Leon hybrid so I might have dodged a bullet
I saw this car for the first time today, and stopped to walk around it to take in its beauty. Definitely on my list for next car now.
Great video, cool cars, can't even buy this because I don't live in the UK
Cupras are totally badass if they just create a coupe and a sporty sedan their lineup will be finished
I love my Cupra Leon 5 door hatch. It sits in that sweet spot I think.
A coupe would be *amazing* !
I think there being careful, not to upset the bigger owner VW, as some SEAT owners have had preference over them, and Cupra am I right in saying are the better arm of Seat. Correct me if I am wrong..
These Cupra designs (external) are superb, that new Tavascan is off the charts. The engineers at VW that designed these infotainment systems should be fired, worst design idea since fake exhausts and shiney black plastic.
The VW lead software boss was actually fired for it mid 2020, but yeah that was too late ... But they need to do something about it.
@@chrizz754 They've change it for the My23 version. Much more user friendly.
Agree …the infotainment is a shocker , was ready to put some $$ down until i went through this
Great car and great video!
Small correction:
Formentor is the name of a small peninsula in the north of the island of Palma de Mallorca.
Great review, I’m 6 months into my ownership and despite the infotainment system which is a pain I just love the the thing. The ‘Cupra’ button is addictive and guaranteed to put a smile on your face and a dent in the fuel economy 🤣
have you found a solution for the climate backlight issue?
I'm considering ordering some garish chinese light-up usb cable to span along the bottom...
@@Apipoulai We use the screen adjustment for the AC when it is dark.
The VZ5 in a “tiny” crossover, could be a good mix of fast&confy within an acceptable price.
Love this show .. 💯❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Hey Rory, big fan. It may help to read the manual on the driver display. A car is like any piece of high end electronics. Read the instructions.
That review of the load area fold down was unlike any Ive seen before
i hope youtube recommends this channel more.
So great videos!!! Thank you!!! Extremely nice presenter and presentations!!!
Cupra would definitely sell in South Africa if they consider coming back.
I was the fan of the 2009 Leon Cupra. Pity Seat left soon after😢
Great review mate, Matt Wattson just pointed out surface level stuff.
Thank you for the video! Just 1 thing ... about the fuel economy could you talk about L/km aswell? thanks!
Thank you Rory for another very interesting video. I do like the Formentor a lot and I am considering it as my future car in the version VZ 310, which seems like a Golf R on stilts more oriented towards family usage. However, I am afraid that the boot space is still too small for holidays with a family of three (with a 7 year old). Coming from a Tiguan BiTDI and then an Allspace TDI 190, I recently got the following idea in my head: a Seat Tarraco FR 2.0 TSI 245 would cost a similar amount of money and with an ABT engine control unit would also reach 310 CP - of course would not be so dynamic on a twisty road but might fit better the family like. What is your view?
Yes for your family you would be better off with the larger SUVs: Seat Tarraco or Skoda Kodiaq. If you fancy an SUV that’s little smaller than the Tarraco, or Kodiaq, then maybe the Skoda Karoq or Cupra Ateca, which are about the same size as the VW Tiguan. The Cupra Ateca has the same performance as the Formentor VZ2 but with the larger cabin and boot. When I visited my local Seat/Cupra dealership I was amazed just how comfortable the Cupra Ateca was. I now own a Formentor VZ2 and it is noticeably smaller than the Kodiaq I used to own. Does that help?
@@alanashburner8907 Yes, this helps, thank you. I was also considering Cupra Ateca, indeed is not so attractive as design, but probably is more practical than the Formentor, at least in terms of boot.
Great video Rory!
Just for the speaker's info: Formentor is a cape in Mallorca island, not related exactly to Formentera. Precious car. Just ordered one in the same color. Love it!
A reasonably fair review, the car has some good points such as the seats (extremely comfortable) and it does look sooooo very cool (the rear lights are fantastic), the Brembo brakes are excellent but they're an upgrade, however, it's severely let down by the "everything on one screen" thing. It just doesn't work very well. For me anyhow, it completely spoils the whole experience as everything is such a faff. For people asking about Apple carplay, this works ok and it's wireless in the UK but to me, the graphics look like they're off a PC from about 10 years ago. You can't control any of the cars systems as it only mirrors what is on your phone so if you want to use Waze/Tidal etc you can do it from there, then swap back to standard screen for everything else.
Anyone considering a new VW group vehicle should go for a very long test drive and play around for an hour (possibly in the dark) to ensure you can get to grips with all the crap menus.
The previous generation Leon Cupra/Ateca system was so much easier operate but didn't look quite as flash.
Also, the in-built safety systems are extremely intrusive, particularly the lane assist which I had to permanently disable in mine (via OBDEleven, dead easy) as it has a tendency to try and kill me every few days. There's also the annoying "double pop" through the speakers, the SOS errors, speed sign reading errors (reads kph instead of mph at times) which I can't believe you didn't experience in 6 months of running this car, pretty much everyone has, the satnav has some weirdy off road thing going on when you input a postcode, it doesn't give the the address but the coordinates, the air con is a bit flaky on mine also. There's loads more gremlins, a google search will throw them up.
Performance and handling wise it's ok. Depends what you're used to. Personally, I think it could do with the ABT treatment, another 50bhp wouldn't go amiss as it's a bit of a lard arse.
My older Leon 290 felt faster but things are improving now everything is loosening up. I'd describe is a "perky" lol.
It goes round corners well enough for most people. Unless you're a complete twat you're never going to reach the limit of this cars ability on the public road. Economy is about what I'd expect at around 30mpg using super unleaded. Steering feedback is non existent so that's the same as 90% of every car you can buy now. Something that I've started to notice a bit more recently is that it's a bit awkward to park. I find it quite tricky to judge where the corners of car are and a spiral car park ramp has me cringing whilst worrying I'm going to kerb my alloys. Never had that feeling before and I had discovery 3/4 for 12 years, dead easy to manoeuvre those massive beasts. Maybe that's just me being a bit rubbish.
Anyway, in summary, is a fully loaded VZ3 worth 45k? Nope. Would I buy another one? Nope. Would I recommend one to a mate? Nope.
It's such a shame as this car could be be brilliant, instead, it's just really very annoying.
Others may disagree, this is only my opinion of course :)
As a owner of a vz3 i am completly agree with you
For 45K what else should someone consider? Or alternatives are just gonna cost 50K+?
Yeah...I was worried about a few quibbles. Expensive here in Oz too
Completely agree. I had a VZ edition for 9 months....got shot of it as it had way too many gremlins. Maybe they've sorted it since, as it was the launch edition, but it was just horrible to live with
Hi can I ask a question I just bought one of these, 3 days ago, and at high speed the other I feel like the front wheel was losing grip and swerving? Is that the Haldex AWD shifting torque is that the lane keeping assist? Did you experience anything similar?
Have a 310 Formentor for last 8 months. Apart from foibles on the info screen really love the car. Steering responsive , power very usable and suspension very compliant and extremely comfortable. Came out of a Golf R which was better built but prefer this as a daily .
Hi Alex. How do you find the boot space? We need to be able to fit a pram and all the other baby luggage with it.
@@garybyrne8091 . It’s not bad but not a large suv , think you best go and try at dealership with pram etc .

Its actually named after Cape Formentor, Mallorca. Nice video!
Looking to get this for my new company car, might have to go for that hybrid version to save on tax. It’s the same infotainment as my Golf GTE but the buttons do light up on that
Great review as we have come to expect from you sir. Great car, I cannot wait until I am in the financial position to buy one.
Great Car. 6 months into mine and never had so many compliments or People asking what car it is.. Like any car it has it's flaws , the biggest one for me is that the sensors are extremely sensitive especially when giving way to a car on a narrow road,it takes a good few seconds for the car to sense that the other car has already passed you and if you go almost immediately after the car passes , it auto slams the brake 🙈🙈
My VZ2 310 slammed the brakes on for no apparent reason at 20mph, it's also opened the panoramic roof a couple of times, other than that it's fantastic.
Another great review
Brilliant review
Excuse me Matt, Cupra stands for CUP RAcing, the racing division of Seat before they split. And as said below, Formentor is a cape in Mallorca. Cheers
Bought my formentor V2 in May and I love it. Only thing is buld quality is not what Rory experienced. There's an annoying rattle in the back seats and the wireless charger just doesn't work reliably
I have tightly wound cloth in the tray to help keep my phone in place.

I’ve owned a Cupra Leon plugin hybrid for over a year now! Been really happy with it and considering upgrading to a bigger platform i.e. the Formentor. But can’t decide if I’ll go with the plugin hybrid or the 300ps petrol one. 🤔
I’ve had my VZ now 3 months , love it , especially as I have RA disability, , big doors , great seats , only fault stupid VW computer
Video quality was always good. But now with my new 4K display, it's top-notch. What camera do you guys use?
Great review. Can anyone advise on the towing capabilities of this vehicle. Would only be doing short journeys, say 5 - 10 miles at a time, but would still like to know anyone’s experiences?
ordered the VZ hybrid in April this year... unfortunately the delivery takes very very long at the moment due to the pandemic and the semiconductor crisis
Great review! is this from England?
The ESP button is there because is part of activating the lunch control process. I love this decision of Cupra as with other VW group cars you should turn off ESP from the media, which is a nightmare and very slow.
Unfortunately, we don't get this brand in South Africa... Such a cool looking car.
Have top model over the year,ad 64 horses and tourge 100Nm ,best car 2021 for me!
I think this is a cracking looking car, that front looks epic. The 5 cylinder will be left hand drive only.
I think that has changed
Looks brilliant
Looks sick mate
I can see they used the same interior-designer like most other manufactures - I think he`s called Mr. All-Dark? Thats very progressive, forewardthinking and uplifting ;-)
Considered this car only with 150hp motor variant, drove really great, loved 19' inch wheels and the hood being greatly visible from the driver's / passenger seat offering the two a great view and representation of where the car's nose it. The infotainment display and UI kinda sucks, everything too complex and graphics could be sharper. This said, went with the new Benz A class sedan instead. The overall package (for the same money) just feels better
I' have ordered VS2 this week on personal lease with 10k miles on 3 years. For 350 a month with a grand down.
I've got the exact same car your have here. Same grey, VZ2, 2.0 Petrol, Blue leather. I agree with everything you say here. It gets attention constantly, it's extremely comfy, and fast! The infotainment is horrendous, not gonna lie. I hope they send an update out soon to smooth over a lot of the issues. But all that aside, it's an amazing all-rounder.
How many issues have you had with the infotainment system? I'm torn between buying a Formentor VZ 2.0 245HP petrol engine vs V177 Mercedes A class 250
@@GuyRandomOne it’s very slow to start up sometimes. There’s no physical buttons for climate control which can be fiddly but you get used to it. All round though it’s a brilliant car that turns heads everywhere you go.
@@MrRedSky I've read that CUPRA hasn't escalated the infotainment problems into a ''known issue'' and I've read in the SEAT forums that the OTA software updates not always fix bugs and glitches. I really love this car, both the interiors and exteriors are amazing but I can't fathom myself having to constantly deal with infotainment issues; I'd go crazy knowing I've thrown over 40k on a car that has its core functionalities faulty most of the times.
@@GuyRandomOne I’d say that the rest of the car makes up for the sub par infotainment. But if it’s a deal breaker for you then maybe the A class would be a better choice for you. What I will say is though the formentor is a whole lot bigger. I thought it was gonna be hatchback on stilts size but it’s pretty much an SUV.
@@MrRedSky Yup. Right now the infotainment is a deal breaker for me, the rest of the car gets my full approval but alas, nothing is perfect... even german cars are prone to issues due to complex engineering. Guess I'll just test drive them before buying. Thanks for your answers.
when the only complain is some issues with the infotainment system you know it's an absolutely amazing car.
I'm curious about the sound level in the car. I recently had a Golf Mk7 and all the noise from the tiers were unbearable. A year ago i took the Leon Sportstourer for a testdrive and it too was suffering from a lot of tire noise. Is the Formentor any better?
